Inspired by another post.

A couple months ago I was driving through Kensington and stopped to help a young male jogger who was experiencing heart issues, had an implant that was over firing. His friends got to him before the ambulance and took him to hospital.

I've often wondered about him. If anyone knows who I mean (I have his first name only) and are able to let me know how he pulled up Id be grateful.

  • That was my partner!!! He has an ICD. That day he went for a run but was unaware that his thyroid was acting up, so when he was running his heart rate became too high for the ICD and it shocked him 7 times. We took him to the Royal Melbourne and all shocks were classed as “inappropriate shocks.” His ICD was raised to withstand a higher heart rate and he’s all good!

Thank you so much for stopping and helping. That was really scary for us and I don’t know if I could have responded to someone in distress like you did. We appreciate it so so much and are so glad we can finally thank you.

wow what are the odds! glad he's ok

Less than you’d think. I bumped into two people here that were almost involved in the same near crash as me by some meth fuelled lunatic in the morning rush. I’d made eye contact with them and a few hours later we were chatting here.

    Yeah… the odds 👀

I'm so pleased! Thanks for letting me know. Hope you have a happy holidays and new year.

    Username checks out brilliantly then!

As someone with thyroid issues I hope he got it checked out.

Is his thyroid under control now?

I have an ICD too and I can empathise with how stressful that would have been for him! I've been shocked 3 times in a row (probably about 8 times all up over the last 10 years) but the thought of 7 consecutive ones makes me shudder. I'm so glad he's alright! Thanks so much OP and everyone else involved for stopping to help him.

  • He pulled up okay. He went to hospital, got his thingy fixed and now he's back to jogging regularly.
