Apparently that is not the case. That is a giant mass of eggs, not 1 singular egg, but these masses are known to be the size of small cars, so no weird perspective at work here.
it's about a meter (3feet) wide, and seems to be the egg sac of a very much not giant squid. the crossposted thread has a lot of good info, but to save you some time, a starting point:
Did you not just see the guy float around it. It was bigger then him. Obviously in video it doesn't do it justice but in person I can imagine just how huge this thing is.
I linked to it because it has an explanation. This way rather than having to explain it myself, I both save the effort AND I credit the original explainer.
The original post has a comment that says this is not a single egg, but rather a big sac with a ton of small eggs inside and it’s from a not-colossal squid. That makes more sense to me and sounds legit.
Umm. I think its a titanic squid egg…
Always beware that mama squid may be nearby!
Ooohhh no! There goes Tokyo…
This will be the most zen kaiju movie ever, since 98% of it will be swimming to the other side of the world.
Also the squid starts its life as a giant marble
Maybe the film needs a sped-up marble-egg development sequence in the beginning. It can borrow the opening music from Ghost in the Shell.
GO GO GODZILLA!!!!!!!!
So I'm assuming that because it cut off so wonderfully abruptly that the size of this thing is not as large as it seems due to perspective.

No doubt phrased it to be misleading. 'Giant Squid' Egg vs Giant 'Squid Egg'

Just imagine if the parents are nearby...
“All these worlds are yours, except Europa. Attempt no landing there. Use them together. Use them in peace."
From everything I’ve read about this, it is NOT the egg of a giant squid. It it a giant sac of squid eggs.
"That's not a moon, that's an egg!"
“It’s too big to be an egg!”
It’s not AI? 😬 If it’s real it’s really fantastic!

this is actually really cool
Amazing and beautiful. Nature is incredible. Hopefully they left it the fuck alone and didn't destroy it for some stupid bullshit reason.
When they say ‘giant squid egg’, do they mean an unusually large egg or the egg of the elusive giant squid?
Squegg
Nope nope nope noooooooppe
