I was enchanted enough by this one to plant my own. Still feel guilty sometimes for planting a non native but can you blame me haha they are beautiful trees
I don’t think they’re considered invasive in my region but maybe we’re speaking of a different tree. Also called lacebark elm, doesn’t produce seeds or suckers afaik. At least I hope it’s not given my city sold it to me!
If your region is in the US, then it’s invasive unfortunately. Cities often don’t properly keep track of what is or isn’t invasive. But if yours isn’t producing seeds maybe it’s a sterile cultivar (which is better than the straight species invasive, but plants are notorious for achieving the saying “life finds a way”)
Thank you, I’ve been going back and forth on whether to replace it with a native since learning about the importance of sticking with native species and it’s only been in for 3 years. It does appear to be listed as invasive in parts of Arizona, though not my area, but I’d rather not contribute to the issue. Thanks so much for the information and input, much appreciated.

Beautiful but invasive. There are native and non-invasive hybrids that are DED-resistant that are better options than Chinese/lacebark elm.
