People say similar things about Pinus radiata in Australia. Imported from the US to grow for timber (we still have plantations) but it’s become invasive and people think it adds to fire risk.
I hope you can see them as well! I made it out to Yosemite and Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park this year for the first time. Having lived in NC most of my life, those parks are just mind blowing in all regards. We have nothing like them on the East Coast. Pictures do no justice to the size of those trees out there.

The tree in this picture is a coast redwood, not a giant sequoia that you see in the sierra mountains

Walking through those forests is absolutely a life-changing experience.
