No, they weren't. Almost every one of them had issues that Gero helped with. And even if we can't rule out that Doll User engineered some of them, it wasn't as if the people around them were spotless. Trouble was brewing, with or without Gero, but at least with Gero they had a chance.
only 1 of them would have lived a peaceful life even if it they were engaged to a perverted politician. Everyone else would have died or been killed due to their occupations and family connections.

They're more than capable of handling themselves, and even the few that aren't they still made the choice to stand by and continue standing by him. And as we can see at the end he about to water-slap him in the face, they're just as ready to fight for and help him just as much as he would do for them.
