Posting about a television pilot that was about Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, following them as adults, reuniting in the old west. Starring Peter Horton as Tom Sawyer and Michael Dudikoff as Huckleberry Finn, the pilot aired April 22nd, 1983; it was actually produced by Columbia Pictures Television three years earlier, in 1980, one of the eight pilots they filmed that year by them, none of which were picked up. It also featured P.J. Soles, and Slim Pickens, in his last role.
Directed by Peter H. Hunt, and written by George Schneck, both of whom have passed, I doubt the pilot will be available unless someone happened to record it. As of now, all that exists of it now are two promotional pictures.
The idea of putting two of American literature's most famous creations in a weekly western seems odd, but has basis, as Mark Twain started writing a novel about the two and their party in the west being ambushed by deadly Native Americans, and Tom and Huck as the only survivors. He also wrote and published two other novels, one with Tom and Huck, as well as Jim, exploring Africa in a ship lifted by balloons, and another with Tom and Huck solving a murder.
Both characters and their stories have been adapted dozens of times, so I think it's interesting to take a more original approach, rather than telling the same story again. This was actually the first of four attempts at having the two star in a television show as adults, but as far as I know, the latter two only existed as scripts.

Oh my gosh I totally saw this as a kid. I was a big Huck Finn fan and was excited to see something new with the characters.
Cool! I don't think I've seen anybody talk about this before. Do you remember the plot at all?
I'm guessing you don't happen to have a tape of it lying around do you, lol.
Oh no. My family didn't have a VCR then. I just have vague memories of them reuniting and running from someone...either the law or a bad guy.
Now I'm on a mission to find it too
Good luck, hope you do, been dying to see it!
I'll respond here if I come across it.
