Tookq my first comp gun a REM 5r milspec that’s about 15 yrs old, dropped it with Mike at Nine Run Gun to do something I’ve wanted for awhile. Had him chop the barrel to 20”, make a custom mount for the AE M24 suppressor, drill tap receiver to 8mm for the PRI rail, bed, inlet for a grayboe DBM, TT 2stage flat trigger, Hawkins heavy tactical 20 moa mount, T6xi 3-18 msr2, larue Harris bipod, & tactical bolt.
Bruh I had an M24 in Afghanistan.. rounds on target a 800-1000 meters all day. Stationed on a small outpost in the mountains so I could shoot target practice anytime I wanted.. miss that thing..
M24 is special
I was an infantry PL in Afghanistan. Had evening meetings with my counterpart but during the day he told me they had a new rifle he wanted to show me. Ok, nbd, probably something weird or useless.
Go to meeting. Two drag bags against a wall. Pretend not to notice. Sit and do our thing for the next days ops/patrols and he remembers the new rifles. He proceeds to pull two brand new M24a1s with Leupold mk5s out, I maintain poker face. He wants me to train his guys on how to use them. In my head - Fuck no I won't!
But I made the point that the only places we could use them was on the ridgeline at the OP or down at the river plus it would take me "all year to train them if I spoke fluent Dari," which I didn't but it was also a lie to get him to back off.
What caught me off guard as I was leaving was him saying, "My rifle, your rifle. You take one." Excuse me, what? "My rifle, your rifle. You take one, please." I pretended not to want it and reluctantly took it back to my guys.
Once the door to our tent closed I lost it. CHECK THIS SHIT OUT as I unzipped the drag bag. The boys were like wtf sir, where'd you get that from? Apparently the Kandak commander gave two of them to the ANA and now we have one.
I planned on bringing that one home off the books but I stepped on a landmine a few months later and the ANA pulled it back anyway for accountability at some point.
That badass! What grain bullet were you shooting? Did accuracy change with temp?
You win
No you 🫶
Beauty rig! Which thermal is that?
Leimke.
Which Leimke? Have seen the Lucas-1 for good prices but not sure how it’d do under medium-high magnifications. How’s yours perform?

It is the Luchs 1. The euro deal right now is insane for what you get, wish I got mine at that. This is at 12x. It’s best around 8x magnification.
Man I love the look of a short barrel on a precision rifle.
How are you liking the Steiner?
They are great for the cost, I’d say punch up for what they can be found for.
Would you buy it again
I have 3, so yes sir
I’ve got the 3-18 and 5-30 in the SCR2. Awesome scopes.
What stock is that? I cant place it. Is it the stock HS precision stock? Overall, probably one of my favorite builds I have seen in here in a long time. Really wish I picked up one of the 5R rifles in 308 years ago.
Yeah it is the factory HS precision stock.
Tell me more about that PRI rail. Is it just one of the standard MK12 / flat top rails? And it’s mounted to just the receiver? How many screws is holding it? 4?
Edit: D/r I’m an idiot. Didn’t realize they made REM pattern NV rails. Hot
I just want a Titanium AE M24
Fact!
Nice rifle
May I taste it?
Tell us about that paint job. That’s absolute beauty.
Few drinks, paint, & sponge
I absolutely love this and it gives me horrible ideas that will cost me a lot of money.
Dude… that thing is fuckin sick. I want.
Thank you
Love my TT 2 stage triggers!
Beautiful build
I dig it.
I have a plan for a similar build at some point
This is exactly the rifle I have been envisioning in my head. Only difference is a nice walnut stock and a left-handed action. I want something that is as much an heirloom as a shooter.
If it isn't rude to ask, how much did all of this work set you back?
M24s and M40s are never not hot
That’s an awesome build! What grain bullets does it like? .75 MOA groups?
It loved 178 amax and 175 SMK’s but I got it to shooting the 178 eldm’s (shooting here) almost as good so moved to them.
Sweet! Thats slick!
So does the pri rail mount to or touch the barrel in any way?
It does not
Why is the suppressor so long?
Because that’s what she wanted. The rifle
It's a reflex suppressor. There's a few inches of barrel inside it.
Does that just give more volume for the blast chamber ?
Yeah it diverts gas back into the chamber. Does it help much, don’t know, but the nostalgia of the AE cans does.

I generally wrap my scopes, not rape them. Any kind of self adhesive wrap
Left handed shooter? Your rifle rips. I have a PSS that’s has Rems version of a DM that has no upgrade path. Do you hand load.
A thing of beauty
What optic mount and diving board is that? I like how it hits the optic. So many sit so high.
Hey man, awesome rig. Quick question here. Is this a PRi rail, and if yes, which model? Also, how easy is installation and what are the standard screws for it? I have a 700 SA .308 on a Magpul hunter 700 and am looking to get same rail for night time shooting capability, but I am in EU and want to purchase the right one as otherwise returns/refunds will be a bitch...
I love my 5R Milspec but I don't want to change it from factory spec😅 .... Awesome modded gun though!!
Is that a thermal imaging scope in front of the optical scope?
I have never wanted a rig so bad like this one. Man this is so nice.
What cheek pad is that? Looking to buy one and I like that one a lot.
Beautiful rifle. What is that long rail? Is it mounted on top of the action picatinny or directly to the action with screws? I’m also looking for some extender rails for my rem 700 clone to mount thermal. But my action has integrated rail.
Great, now I've got to get my barrel chopped. Shorter is hott.
Still pretty
