Hi! My parents asked me what I wanted for New Year's. Little Big Planet 3 has been on my wish list for a long time. I really love platformers, and the fact that you can create your own levels intrigued me even more. But I know that the PS4 servers were shut down in 2024, and I think that's a big minus. Based on the pros and cons, please tell me if Little Big Planet 3 is worth buying?
I guess it all depends on what you want it for, for creating its still great because of the tools you get. But if its for level playing what whatnot...fir obvious reasons thats a bit difficult now without private servers and everything.
okay ,thanks 0-0
If you're a huge LBP fan absolutely, otherwise nope ๐ all opinionated: LBP 3 is just meh, it has nothing on the others, not even PSP or Karting. Speaking of spin-offs, it alone feels like a spin-off. The 3 new main characters are unnecessary and lame, and it's insanely broken, half baked, and it lacks so much charm. Me and my ex broke out of the map more times than we could count, we literally had more fun breaking the game than playing it lol. The levels aren't bad but just, ehh, and since that's all you're gonna get on PS4 unless you make offline levels then yeahh. Can't even get the platinum anymore (luckily did myself).
Parts of LBP 3 are great though, like the creator curators were lovely, and so was Newton. The Titans also weren't terrible but they felt very DLC-y, as in just kinda lame and not nearly as cool and quirky as the negativatron or collector. Again, just that lacking charm. I know how difficult development was, but still, Sumo's clearly only competent enough for LBP DLC's, how they were trusted with the franchise is beyond me.
SABA also has no right to be attached to LBP/Sackboy, good game by itself, but nothing great, ESPECIALLY when you're forced to compare it to LittleBigPlanet. Giving Sackboy a voice alone shows how little they care about keeping it faithful. Spin-off or not, you don't change something like that as if it doesn't matter when no other LBP spin-off did, even if you can mute it, actually baffling.
I really liked LBP 3 as a kid but I was definitely just overlooking the bajillion flaws...
TL;DR, Sumo ain't got shit on Mm ๐ค LBP3 feels more like a spin-off like PSP or Vita but very meh. Probably the biggest thing going for it was that it was modern LBP and also technically just adding on to the rest? You could even play LBP1 and 2 story levels on it through people modding them into community levels lol

Wow, what a detailed answer, thank you! Based on everything you've written, I'll probably hold off on buying LBP 3 and ask for another game for the New Year :P
Have you got a PS3? ๐ and no problemmm, honestly my reply's selfish if anything, I LOVE yapping about LBP haha
Unfortunately, I don't have a PS3 ๐ Hehe, okay, I was interested to read your opinion
That's a shame because I'd totally recommend LBP karting, it's SUCH a fun party game. Since it's in a way a Mario kart clone (never actually played Mario kart lol) with a lot of quality and a heap of LBP faithfulness to it while also being 3D, you can't really go wrong ยฏโ \โ _โ (โ ใโ )โ _โ /โ ยฏ I think the biggest issues with it for people were the lack of karts having any different stats and such, the fast forward powerup being badly designed and too game change-y (I can recall at least twice it literally teleported me to first place and right before the finish line lmao), and the create mode not being amazing. The fact that it has one alone is more than enough for me to think it's wow though. SABA couldn't even do what a KARTING game spin off did ๐
TL;DR, side note, lmk if you wanna hear some PS4 game recommendations ๐๐ (or PS5)
You're really motivating me to get a PS3 xD Maybe I'll do that in the future... Honestly, I wouldn't mind hearing recommendations for PS4 games =) I recently finished playing Subnautica and Subnautica Below Zero, and I recommend checking them out if you haven't!
I have not and I've heard they're cool so I'll 100% note them, tysm :) and I mean it's a beloved console so you probably wouldn't regret it whatsoever ๐ if you haven't already or can't nowadays, you could also play the infinitely better than LBP 3, 1 and 2 then ๐ also also though, you could get them working on an emulator if you have a PC. Even get it working through custom online servers then, then it's basically like you're playing it back before the shutdown, just with a lower player count
My biggest recommendation over your interest in LittleBigPlanet has to be one of Media Molecule's other games, Tearaway Unfolded. I don't have a vita so I never played the original, Tearaway, and I hear it's better over the platform allowing for touch and more immersion and it's the og and whatnot, but Tearaway Unfolded is still amazing. It's a bit more kid-y than LittleBigPlanet (both are general but LBP to me is the most true to the definition of "general audience" thing ever, anyone can equally enjoy it. Tearaway Unfolded for example has daddy pig from Peppa pig's voice actor play one of the narrator's lol, just the sort of vibe leans a little more towards for kids y'know?), but yeah it's got amazing visuals, fun gameplay, a lot of mind boggling immersion/fourth wall breaks, and you can craft like all of the characters/a lot of props in it irl by collecting it in game (papercraft). I am not surprised in the slightest they share the same devs
This game no longer has support but it's also the same devs, Dreams, it's like LittleBigPlanet but effectively limitless like any other game engine. It unfortunately has some flaws even the devs recognised like lack of multiplayer, but it's still just a masterpiece in its own way. Media molecule just flexed like crazy with it lol. Was a lot of fun but not quite on level with LBP, just because I guess ๐ it's a shame because I wish it really blew up
Other games I'd recommend on PS4, kind of just wildly giving them now haha, **Erica (live action interactive story horror game, loved it), *Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West (ghost of Tsushima-y, absolute banger games, and like, the prettiest games with crazy graphics as well to ever exist. It's a shame HZD's remaster is PS5 only and so is the HFW DLC, but they still look fantastic on PS4), *The Last of Us (insanely good story games I'm sure you know about, part I and part II remastered aren't on PS4 though but for Part I the og still looks good anyway and Part II the difference is pretty negligible), *Little Nightmares (amazing horror game(s), fun fact, same devs as LittleBigPlanet psvita, it shows a fair bit), *Tomb Raider franchise (even the original games but remastered, though I specifically mean the reboot trilogy, great games), *Detroit Become Human (story game centred around a near future with androids, where some deviate with some sort of glitch and 'become human', breaking free of their limitations. Really good, a LOT of outcomes, crazy graphics and polish), and **Dead by Daylight (4 survivors and 1 killer, multiplayer assymetrical horror game, has original content and also basically every iconic horror IP atp. Fortnite but horror lol. The game's amazing and unique but also notoriously shitty? Love/hate relationship type game lol)
I hope this is easy enough to dissect ๐ญ the brackets are just for some more quick details if the names interest you. Hope something here sounds cool, Erica is by far the most niche of these last games and therefore maybe the most interesting other suggestion haha ๐
Wow, what a list! 0_0
I've played Little Nightmares 1 and 2, and I agree, it's a wonderful horror game =)
Thanks for such a detailed answer, it was interesting to read =) I'll definitely be checking out some of this gigantic list of games ๐
What not being able to find the right cardboard to build the pod from LittleBigPlanet irl today (for the third time... ๐) does to a guy ๐ฅ haha. Cool that you like LN ๐
I'm surprised you don't like the 3 main characters, I think the story mode did a great job of making them feel special! In fact, I enjoyed the story mode a lot. (The only other LBP game I played was psvita which had one of the best story modes in any game I ever played, haven't seen LBP 1/2 for comparison)
The main reason LBP3 kinda sucked is how buggy it was, I had my save and profiles wiped several times and everything just breaks randomly D:
I would say no unless you donโt plan on getting a PS3 or you want to play all of them (since LBP3 released on both, but the PS4 version has fewer issues). The PS4 version doesnโt support the private servers people have been playing and sharing on, and most of us prefer the first two games, especially LBP2. I had a fine time with 3, but it was a step backwards in many aspects, especially at launch
ok ,thanks ๐
I think it would be worth it. The story mode is decent itโs a nice story but there are some bugs. I think? I havenโt played the third game in awhile I mainly play the second game.
BUT the third game has an amazing create mode. Mainly because thereโs so many layers so you can make bigger more detailed maps and yeah! Itโs up to you and it really depends on what you like in a game. Anyway have a great day!
Thanks for the reply!
Of all the ones I've read, this is the most positive one so far. Create mode sounds really cool, I love it๐ (no wonder I'm a fan of Fall Guys and Minecraft๐)
Have a nice day, too =)
If you care for the story than yeah.
I wouldn't recommend lbp 3, it was not a bad game, it just had to many issue they could not address and the game itself was broken, couldn't progress in the story mode or I couldn't play with friends or the chat was blank, or the levels wouldn't even load properly, I would recommend lbp 2 special edition as to that's were all of us stayed playing, but it is up to YOU I loved lbp 3 and I wish it had more potential then it had, I personally was disappointed in lbp 3 and other people can disagree. In just saying if you want to get it you can, but personally if you haven't played lbp get the first one. Its so you can experience all of them and choose your favorite one
Thank you! I would gladly buy LBP 1 and 2, but unfortunately I donโt have a PS3 :/
I feel you should get lbp3, its very cheap on places like ebay, walmart, Amazon etc, the best part about lbp3 is the very very very good in game level creator. 16 layers. Full creativity. The story mode is GREAT its really good, 3 new characters 4 technically but I think you should pick it up becasue it is cost effective and fun
Okay, thank you! I really like games where you can create your own levels
Since you have a ps4, yes it is way better on the ps4 version, enhanced graphics and a better overall experience if you love games where you can create, id say pick it up since it has the best level creator (in my opinion) And if you have a ps5, you can also play it on the ps5 no enhancements, but still cool! And if you have a pc.. you can emulate all 3 of the games (with fanmade (servers) so that you can play community levels! It is a lot of work, but there are a crap ton of tutorials out their on how to emulate. and its free! And i just checked ebay, most of the used copies of lbp3 for the ps4 are between 6-10$ so yeah, pretty cheap and if you REALLY REALLY want to play the first 2 games, im sure there is a way to mod them on the ps4/5 if your into modding (i sure am!) But yeah overall, id say get it. Its really cheap around 7 dollars, and a really good in-game level creator.ย

Okay, thanks for the advice!
I don't have a PC to play the first and second games, but maybe I'll get a PS3 in the future... =)
Anyway, I've already ordered Little Big Planet 3; it should arrive before the New Year ๐ I'll invite my friend over; she's never played Little Big Planet 3 either, and we'll get a new gaming experience! :)
Oh yeah! (Fun fact) LittleBigPlanet 3 actually had a lot of lost content from its beta!ย Its very, very interesting. Most of the beta builds of the game are actually still on youtube! (If your into beta builds of games) Here's a beta build of the game! https://youtu.be/5DIgOidDjAg?si=jQQq-DWceIzffa_eย
And Here's a playthrough of the story-mode: https://youtu.be/ccAvJiHjoeA?si=yc0U_1kPq36-0GDn Have fun!ย
Interesting, I'll definitely watch it ๐ Thanks =)
I get why you wouldnt buy it, youre paying full price for a game that works halfway since the servers are down, but I still play this game almost everyday for the create mode of it + the story is pretty good, if you catch it on sale or something I think its definitely worth it and you'll get a good experience out of it.
Okay, thanks! Based on all the advice I read, I finally decided to order the game. I'm really intrigued by the creative mode ๐In my country, the price of the game isn't that high, so I think I made the right choice for my New Year's gift ๐๐
Either emulate it with custom servers via tutorials. You can get all DLC too (shh!) on your pc or if you get a pc.
Restitched might be the closest official thing alive to LBP if/when it comes out.
Okay! I don't have a PC, I play on PS4 :(
Oof. But ye can always check it out on a later date if ya do get one.
Still worth buying on ps3 thanks to custom servers and level archives, ps4 not so much when you minus those two factors not being available for ps4.
