Yes, but the studies still need to be done, because men (cishet men, anyway) won’t believe it otherwise.
Ten million women could tell a man that the sky is blue, and he’ll still refuse to believe it if believing it is inconvenient for him. But let one man say, “Yeah, we did a study and it’s blue, alright,” and there you go.
The only way this is not statistically tautological is if men do the majority of housework in male-female relationships which would be profoundly shocking given social trends to now.
Survey enough women in woman-woman relationships and you end up with 50% of the housework. Because math. Survey all the women in man-woman relationships it'll be less than 50%.
The study is a fancy way of showing echos of traditional gender roles.
I’m a lesbian and I seem to have a much more equal split of house work, mental load and cooking compared to my straight friends living with their husbands.
There’s no gender roles in my home, we do what we’re good at and we make sure to take it in turns with tasks we don’t like doing, etc.
Same!! I only work one job and it's overnight shift. My girlfriend works two jobs and is typically gone from 8am to 9pm, 5/7 days a week. A lot of times she doesnt get a day off in her week
So I don't mind doing the bulk of the housework because I know she works hard for me and our furbabies 😭
I think it was a joke about the headline not gay men being messy.
If anything the stereotype for gay men is that they’re immaculate and keep everything very tidy. Like this snl skit is a great example of the stereotype:
Yeah, but the average workload of the women in the relationship might be lower. Like, in a straight relationship where the man does only 25% of the housework, the average workload for the woman is 75%. Meanwhile in a lesbian relationship where they share the housework equally, the average workload for a woman is 50%.
And men partnered with men do more housework than men partnered with women. Or do we just assume those households have less done because there's two men involved?
It feels like this study happens every year with the same results...
There are more detailed studies out there that look into things like the effect of wage, work flexibility, mental taxation etc of paid work compared to unpaid domestic work.
They really highlight the gender expectations of the situation.
I wish in my house. I do most of the cooking and cleaning, otherwise the dishes would never get done and my wife would get radiation poisoning from microwave if I never made her dinner. 😭
Cool story, but anecdotal evidence is not indicative of the norm. Also your wording saying you “wish” for a this sexist division of labor is more than a bit insensitive…

In other news: the sky is blue.

Hell even with a study they (yes not all cishet men blah blah blah) will choose not to believe.
They don’t believe it even when the studies are done.
Fork found in kitchen
Isn't the study a statistical nothing-burger?

I do 99% of the housework but that’s because I want to spoil my wife
Fair and valid if its communicated correctly

Statistically, in your house, women are on average doing 50% of the house work. Which is why this study isn't saying much.
I hate the headline because if you have two women doing chores, 100% of the chores are being done by women lol.
This is true. With two men 0% of the chores get done!
Nope. My husband and I and most of the gay male couples I know keep very clean homes. Stereotyping is 👎

This.
It's a joke. I also keep a clean home.
throwing shade at us gays 😭😭😭
Exactly!

2 men have more money. They hire cleaners
Or you know, just clean stuff up.
[removed]
Each woman does less.
If two women are married to each other and one does 60% and the other does 40%, each does less than a woman married to a man and does 70%.
Exactly, but that isn't the way it's phrased in the headline, which is why I said I didn't like the headline phrasing :-]
No sher shitlock
Well, that would help explain why this 8 person transfemme poly house is such an absolute mess. Thanks for the excuse!
study? i could’ve told u that 💀

No shit really .
I'm agender, amab, and also do more housework than my cisgender male partner.
Do gay guys clean double less?
Gay couples must live in a dumpster then
That’s like saying that men partnered with women watch more sports than men partnered with men. That’s just kinda meaningless
That sounds dubious at best....
Edit: I misread a lot of this. Ooooff
wait so this means when we're partnering with women, we do less unpaid labor, perhaps because of societal expectations? Not surprised honestly.
Did they only interview one of the women in lesbian relationships? Or those ladies are slobs lol.
I wish in my house. I do most of the cooking and cleaning, otherwise the dishes would never get done and my wife would get radiation poisoning from microwave if I never made her dinner. 😭

Tbf, working out how much housework a man could do in a lesbian relationship is like multiplying by zero.
