The point of this setting is a Lengthy backstory sandbox where your decisions are deliberate and have consequences for the setting. The setting isn't realistic; it's high fantasy inspired by arcade RPGs and Monster Hunter. Monsters are weird. I don't run much combat; typically, I average one per session. I want to tell a story that has meaning, and I'm looking for players who can be forward-thinking about the narrative they want for their characters, in a setting that will challenge them with hard choices. If you want a soft character, I like to see them contest their experiences in no-win situations. If you're looking to play a stoic warrior, I want them to experience the beauty of the world beyond the harsh realities of violence. I'm looking for dynamic roundedness and long-term experience as the player characters grow and adapt to situations that would otherwise be hopeless. This setting is one of my designs, and it's up there in terms of suspension of disbelief; it's not gritty but tragic, as if the world itself is hostile towards life. An underlying motive here is that, despite this, the steel endurance of humanity transcends the calamities of a world ultimately condemned to ruin.
Now, for the players, I'll get straight to the point. I'm looking for people who actively care about the setting their characters are in and, most importantly, enjoy spending time with friends. I'm posting this because I'm a long-term DND player and had to pause while I was getting back to university. I don't want drama or policing of others' behaviors; frankly, I don't have the time to entertain nonsense. If you can't keep your politics and other contentious prejudices to yourself, don't bother applying. The only discrimination I want to see is dwarf on elf hate over a thousand-year nonsensical feud. Lastly, I will be using AI art for this game. I understand its ethics are more than dubious, but I'm willing to do it for the sake of my game's immersion.
What to expect, I'll run a game as high power, and necessary as the plot requires, I like all ranges of fantasy from the low magic to ridiculously overpowered. I don't run gritty realism. I'll track conditions, weather, and niche things, but those aren't my focus. I'm more than happy to have rations figured out in between games. I'll also track down rulings after the fact. I run my games smoothly and with as many meaningful interpersonal relationships as I find appropriate. I will run roleplay-centric games with some combat, but I'm not as interested in the technical details.
Important Note: There will be a lot of homebrew in this game. This is a narrative-focused game for Roleplayers, with DnD mechanics still heavily involved, as well as combat, but the rule of cool and setting are the priority. Rules lawyers need not apply.
About the Setting:
The land is broken, patched together from scraps of other places and times where desert winds may brush against radiant coral plains, and frost can fall down the edge of jungles. Every day is different, every horizon uncertain, and against it all, there is a certain ease in coming to tolerate it. Life here means resilience. Not grim survival, but the kind of resilience that can force you to grow expansive and into something else. Families construct walls against creeping vines and wandering storms, not with preservation or concern, but rather the pride of knowing their stones will last another season. Traders laugh with even more gravitas at market stalls filled with strange treasures, mingled with the unimaginable new shards crashing on the world. Children grow up with stories of people overcoming impossible gaps, teaching them that courage is not just in war but in sheer everyday grit.
How to Apply:
If this sounds like a world you'd like to inhabit, here is what I need from you in the comments section.
Introduce yourself in a sentence or two about yourself as a player: experience level, what you enjoy in D&D, and what kinds of stories or moments create game excitement for you.
Share your prior ideas with me and give me a sense of the kind of character you'd like to explore in this setting.
What's your playstyle? Are you into roleplay, tactics, exploration, or long-term character arcs?
Why This Game?
THIS IS AN ONGOING GAME CURRENTLY IN SESSION 9. PLOT IS SLOW, AND EXPLORATION IS HEAVY.
Content Warnings: topics of war crimes, fanaticism, slavery, cultural supremacy, and religious violence may arise.
This is an exploration-focused game with a plot and character-driven narrative.
I've been playing DND for years and love having a character with lore ties to the setting. I can roleplay pretty well, and would love to have a good campaign with a lot. One thing to note though: I don't use Discord or voice chat, so if that's something that you want to do, I would only use a text chat.
