Hi,

Before signing my new contract with Bord Gáis Energy, I saw a banner in my online account. I don’t remember the exact wording, but it clearly said something like “Welcome €225 Bonus, sign the contract and receive it too”, and it was clear that the bonus applied to existing customers as well.

The banner was visible for several days, so I signed the contract 2 days ago.

When I contacted them to ask about the bonus, they told me that this bonus doesn’t exist, that they can’t provide it, and even asked where I got that information from. Unfortunately, I didn’t take a screenshot, but I’m certain the banner was there.

This feels very misleading, as it looks like the bonus was used to encourage me to sign the contract and then denied afterward.

Is there anything I can do about this? Can I cancel the contract even though I signed it 2 days ago?
Has anyone experienced something like this before?

Thanks.

******* EDIT *******:
I have received a second email from Bord Gáis Energy stating:

Please be kindly advised, the only way to confirm the bonus via website route would be to wait the 90-day period, for the bonus to apply on the second bill.

Frankly, this situation feels like a scam, designed to pressure customers into accepting the contract. It is extremely unprofessional.

  • You have a 14 day cooling off period - you can cancel.

  • I seen it, or at least I'm 99% certain it was it, but it was for new customers only. I've never seen a "Welcome" offer that was for existing customers.

  • It’s 30 cent a kWh for Electricity!!!! That’s disgusting

  • That welcome bonus banner is on the website now!

  • Yes. It was €235. There was a link that said “view new plans” but the link didn’t have any option to view plans. I then went and selected my new plan, zero mention of the €235, whether it applied to specific plans only, etc.

I signed up for the plan I was going to anyway, but frustratingly I find it next to impossible to see when this plan kicks in. I was on a dual fuel 24hr tariff but moved to an EV plan with variable rates - a much cheaper night rate but a more expensive peak rate. No idea when this starts. Email doesn’t have a contract. It’s all very confusing.

  • What plan are you on?

  • “Renew now and get a €235* account credit too.”

Thats the email I received from Bord Gais so maybe you got it too

    yes, same message I saw.

I think he was suggesting that you might have received an email as well.

Yes but I haven’t received anything, in the second email I wrote, they replied with this:
Please be kindly advised, the only way to confirm the bonus via website route would be to wait the 90-day period, for the bonus to apply on the second bill.

  • Double check the price plans anway because Yuno have one with a bonus and the rates are much worse than the one without the bonus and I imagine they are all pulling that crap.
