I'm looking for an AI that is made with the purpose of teaching French through oral conversations. Basically like talking to a real tutor who can correct my vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation on the fly. I am good at writing, but I really need training in terms of mobilizing my grammar and vocabulary in the moment of speaking.
I already have real teachers but I'm looking for something extra that I can do for five to ten minutes at a time throughout the day. Oral production is currently my greatest weakness. That's why I am asking about AI.
I don't think ChatGPT is working very well for this. Anyone who has good experiences?
Chickytutor.com is exactly what you describe. Basically an interactive version of Pimsleur or language transfer
I really like its feedback. But it's a shame with the accent.
What issues did you have with the accent?
i actually built this for myself to practice between tutoring sessions in a way that feels like chatting with a friend. a bunch of learners from here are already using it for this exact use case. i think you’ll enjoy it!
Okay I just tried it and I think it's really good. I only have Talkpal and Chatgpt to compare with, but this one seems more responsive to my grammar and pronunciation. Or I like that it says it out loud so it's integrated into the conversion instead of having to read about it on parallel.

This might help
Yeah, it's a good tool. I've actually used it like this. The only problem is that I get tired of giving it instructions and the conversations seem to get off track. That's why I'd like to have one that's exclusively focused on language learning.
It all relies on text to speech, which is essentially the same technology. You can try having AI give you coaching on how to form the letters, basically cues to move your lips and tongue a certain way. But it's still going to give you false positives and false negatives because it uses text to speech.
Speechling is a pretty old school app. You repeat target phrases and someone grades you in about 24 hours. Short of a live tutor, or learning how to use linguistics software, it's about the only thing I'd trust.
