Ah, I can see how it looks more like خـ because the stick on ط does not connect. This can happen with casual writing, and would still be considered readable as the entire word is recognisable as a whole. With more reading, an archive of word "images" gets stored and you start recognizing them more easily across different writing styles and fonts just from the skeleton of the word.

Yeah your translation made sense, however, I'd not say the "my" is implied where you used "my homeland" at the end. "Your eyes are the homeland" is more true to the Arabic, though there is no meaningful difference.
