Peanut: Huh
Peanut: Wow, wow, wow! Anyway, we’ll be seeing each other a little longer until 2028. That’s the main point.
Peanut: Whoa Faker and Oner will be in their 8th year then? If that happens??
Peanut: I mean, I don’t know if I should say this, but when I met Hyunjoon after Worlds ended, I told him he has to keep going. Like, absolutely. Stay a one-club man no matter what.
Peanut: Let's go for the one-club man route, yeah? I remember I did say something like that, yeah
Sleeper agent Peanut with one last assist.
Thank Mr.Nut. Very cool
Thank you Mr. Nut for your advice
The names Nut. P, Nut
Oh my god! I think we might be related. I'm Hazel Nut!
Is Grandma Nut still alive?
I think it's Fucking crazy what they did to your family in November.
staying with one team your whole career probably isn't a good idea unless that one team is T1
Domestically, GenG, T1, and G2 are the only teams that it would make sense to do so.
Meh HLE starting 2024 as well
HLE will throw you away the moment you mess up. HLE is the team you go to for the bag not to stay with long term. They can prove otherwise to that over the next few years but right now its too soon to see if re-signing to them is good long term.
Are you just making this up? Zeus, Delight, and Zeka have all messed up multiple times and are looking at year 2, 3, and 4 respectively, especially Zeka. Viper seemingly left willingly to join a Worlds contending team and Peanut retired after 2 years, I'm sure HLE would have signed both of them again if given the option.
What is this narrative based on
HLE has been treating people well.
Lehends was trashed by GenG moment he choked during worlds.
Lehends wasnt dropped because of choking?
he was dropped because he was expensive and they couldnt afford both Lehends and ruler so choose to get ruler back over Lehends.
GenG have talked multiple times over the years how they dont have unlimited money and often have to work within a strict budget.
And T1 aint that? This dudes would be long on the street if they didnt get lucky to win worlds. For guma even worlds wasnt enough
Lucky is crazy icl
It is luck. If it isnt how do you explain same roster not winning anything except worlds?
I mean you act like they aren't competitive in other competitions, they went far in MSI, they fumbled playoffs in LCK but were good prior basically only losing to GENG, the way you say it it's like they were bottom tier team and then all of a sudden worlds winners.
Have you ever heard about club legends?
No. What that?
Ya. I think It’s different when you’re multiple times world winner lol.
Depends on if he is taking a massive pay cut compared to what other teams are offering or not.
The other teams don't even have the chance to make offers because Oner since 2022 has not been FA ever. He extended his contract with T1 after MSI 2022 till 2024, last year he extended as well on Nov. 15 which is before FA period till 2026 and now he extened again one year before the contract ends.
Tbf even with a pay cut T1 made Oner a star, he's pretty much set for life lmao
Yeah, the downside of T1 while you're playing is they have to do so much media and sponsorship events. But the upside is you're an actual celebrity. I think either way he's making enough money to retire with a decent QOL, but he will also have many more options if he wants to do other stuff.
also he can retire as a model after league, it's a win no matter what. unless he fuck up his life
I also think that people forget how shaky Oner was coming in to worlds in 2023. In LCK Oner was really a weak spot. And then he basically turned into a god in that series vs JDG and has been solid since then.
True to plus those modeling side jobs he got probably pays great as well
It was rumoured that he and keria got a pay increase when Zeus left. Extending till 2028 aligns with Peyz while also leaving more money on the table should he extend to 29 to align with Faker
Even if they don't get an explicit pay raise, surely winning worlds 3 years in a row (and making finals 4 times) means they hit almost every incentive their contract probably had.
Also, this is less related, but I remember Joe Marsh on a podcast basically saying that if he knew a player would guarantee him a worlds win, he would offer a contract up to $20m. Essentially he was saying that from the biz side, a worlds win could lead to $20m+ in additional revenue (probably from sponsorships, etc).
Not sure how they could hit all their incentive when they haven't won anything outside of worlds. LCK is important to these people and winning it will certainly be an incentive in the contract.
depends on the incentive. It is possible the incentive would be winning LCK or worlds. Especially considering there is only one LCK now.
Yes that's why I said "almost every".
I agree though. If I had to guess at which incentives they didn't meet, it was probably LCK titles and MSI. And maybe LCK all pro but I forget where each of them landed.
Ok I still disagree that they would be hitting even most. Haven't won LCK in years, missed the last two finals, missed first stand. Over the last 3 years they haven't been successful at all outside of worlds. Which of course would be the tournament to win if you can only pick one and I am not trying to discredit the worlds performances. So outside of worlds the team sucked to the point their name value/popularity was the only thing keeping the team together.
But then you get a payrise for your contract, the team doesnt get far enough at worlds (and t1 wins), your value goes down and you get replaced / are offered a lower contract / have to find a new team where they pay you less, and the cycle repeats.
Essentially long term over a career T1 might pay better
Peyz played for 3 years, and T1 won 3 worlds during that time.
peyz to t1: yo, you got anymore of those trophies?
KD's "the hardest road"
Yes, and the LEC equivalent would probably be G2. LPL has had a ‘changing of the guard’ but I guess BLG, and TES although their international performance is subpar. GenG and HLE are also stable top tier orgs for the past few years. Basically as a top tier player, you want to be in a org where you have a good chance to make FST/MSI and great chance to make worlds every year.
Fully agree. A player like Bjergsen kind of screwed himself over by being so loyal to TSM for years. Not even from a competitive standpoint, but he reportedly took a way lower salary playing for TSM and constantly signing long contracts instead of letting it run out and bargaining.
Bjegsen truly just wanted to do a good job and win above everything else I'm not surprised reginwould take advantage of
But the pressure gets to ya. And I wouldn't want to stay if faker leaves. Remember the days how the 4 monkeys were playing without him?
faker wont leave EDIT: until he retires, but then that's irrelevant
GenG and HLE are absolutely elite orgs too, they take care of their players extremely well
I don't think I'm biased here but T1 is simply in a league all alone here. HLE especially doesn't fit this for me
T1 isn’t exactly known for the best treatment in other esports, honestly. They’re kind of in a golden era with league but things change fast.
I am only referring to league of legends
Brother Peanut staying goated I fuckin love that dude
Peanut was actually in a lot of the for-fun stuff like random game lobbies with T1 guys even while he was on other teams. He's obviously still close to some current/former T1 players so he probably sees how T1 takes care of their own guys.
Even Peanut uses the T1 gym in their headquarters now.
Peanut finishes military service, marches to T1 HQ, boots up stream with a can of beer and Kkoma will rescue him again
The guy has like full access card probably 🤣
Most probably! He hasn’t even retired earlier this year & he made a cameo on doran’s stream because he had dinner with faker in the T1 cafeteria.
They for sure gave you a free job after you retired. Even Piglet can become their academy coach. As long as you parts way with them in a good term and helped them build their legacy during your time in T1, I think your job is pretty secured after retiring.
There's some rumors T1 is angling to give Peanut partner streamer status.
No offense to Untara, but if Untara can become a partner streamer for T1, Peanut who is several times more popular and had a way more successful T1 career absolutely will get offered the option to become a partner streamer (should he want it).
Well he literally was in T1 before it even rebranded lmao.
A lot of former t1 lost souls out there trying to get out of fakers shadow wondering what if they stayed these days.
I think people don’t really consider how much T1 takes care of their players even into retirement (albeit I’m a bit more jaded as a fan after their handling of Zeus and Guma).
Wolf, Bang, Untara, Sky, Roach, Tom, Mata, Bengi, Sky, Blank, Piglet, Poohmandu, etc. They’ve all been given roles in coaching/streaming and welcomed back.
Do I think Oner is probably underpaid? Definitely, a successful player like him in FA will guarantee huge sums. But he must still be making good money at T1 plus the benefits of comfort and post-retirement (he’s already the most active member on YouTube in terms of content outside of league).
He’s definitely going to keep being a part of their content after retirement.
I mean, he's probably re-signed for 3 years because Gumas left, Peyz is likely cheaper, as is Doran (vs Zeus). Signing a multiple year contract means you were offered something pretty lucrative. They have additional sponsors as well, hence the 2029 Faker contract renewal.
“Stay a one-club man no matter what” is a hilarious thing for Peanut of all dudes to say LMAO
He speaks from experience, must've been his regret he couldn't find a permanent home
Prob from experience? He prob chased the bag and thought being dedicated to one team is maybe better during certain points in his life. Also t1 is the team to be on if ur going the one club route.
Also wasn’t there a report t1 signed oner before worlds? So it wouldn’t matter what peanut told him after since he already signed
Tbf chasing the bag is hardly a bad idea in eSports where your career and the scene itself is far more volatile. But yeah that being said, if you're given the option to 1 man club a team like T1 you probably wanna take it lmao
Ya good facilities, food looks amazing and the biggest fan base(can be pro and a con).
IDK about him chasing the bag is really true tho, his choice of team has almost always been good, even his 1 year stint in LPL with LGD still brought him to worlds(iirc they were terrible through the year tho), the only other non top team he played for was NS, which was more of an upper mid tier team. Other than these 2, he basically only played on LCK championship threatening team to world championship threatening team, consisting ROX/HLE, KZ, STK and GenG.
I mean I'm not claiming Peanut was chasing the bag or not (I did not pay enough attention to his career to know), I was just saying any player is 100% justified for chasing the bag in a scene like this. Unless the team paid for your medical expenses and you leave them as soon as you recover or something like that lmao
Ah, that makes more sense.
I do not think it's remotely true because the premise is stay with one team which he never had the chance too. Since Peanut existed in the pre-franchise era and even worse the OGN era where teams were short changing people in Korea, then disappearing in under 4 years. The ROX peanut was on did not even list much longer after he left nor were any of them compensated well. So of course he moved around a lot.
It was actually a good idea. It still may be. The glaring exception is Faker but not everybody can be like him.
I think they said they offered Oner the contract before worlds but it was agreed after talks once they returned.
He didn't chase the bag, he chased rings. There was a reason people were calling him Peanut Durant.
Yeah he was on some poverty ass teams like deathbed najin, rox, lgd and I dont think king zone was pying that well either. He probably made more in his last 2 years then all the previous years combined
Oner said on stream that he signed his extension in early December. Think that rumor of an extension before Worlds is exaggerated.
ETA: read the headline again and it says it was extension that was offered before Worlds, so I stand corrected.
He didn't chase the bag or sign with super teams. In 2016 Rox was a top 1/2 team in the world and a certain top laner that wanted to link up with Score, Deft and Mata along with Pawn on KT. Tbh it was mostly Smeb orchestrating that move with Deft IIRC. An article leaked of his apparent departure from the team after Worlds and this was at Worlds, i don't when exactly but it might have been before their big series before SKT at MSG. And the whole community was shocked. There was a legit team capable of challenging SKT and they were disbanding after Worlds.
Peanut then went to SKT after leaving. I think the bot lane went to KZ, Smeb and Pawn went to KT and Kuro went to Afreeca.
T1 offered to extend his contract before leaving for worlds but it got finalized & he signed in early December.
[removed]
2017 SKT was one of my favorite line up and it's mostly Kkoma that was being flamed for his shitty draft and substituting blank after peanut when he shoudve done the opposite.
Lol 🤣
Like that one uncle that gives us the “don’t do this or you’ll end up like me” talk
I mean he is the most qualified person to comment on this tbh, man has gone through the top 3 LCK orgs as well as to some extent experienced LPL as well. Grass is sometimes not greener on the other side.
T1 simply knows the power of brand image. Caedrel wants to costream from your hq? Give him a shirt while hes at it.
Old player needs a job, thats a nice news story.
Player retires, let him stream under your name instead.
There is so much power in being associated with so many players beyond your main team.
It keeps them in peoples minds and helps cement them as the esport org in Korea even when they dont win as much.
SKT Peanut in 2017 was the most successful year he had. He won MSI and reached Worlds Finals. Ever since then, he have not achieved anything closer than that.
If we see a player’s monetary value as a combination of performance and brand value, then staying in T1 gives them a good chance of increasing brand value over time while having a pretty high chance of continual good performances (as in trophies). Meaning high chance of maintaining a high salary over time. I’m not a risk taker so to me it sounds like a much better deal than to try out the FA for slightly higher salary the next 2 years, while putting both your brand value and performance in uncertainty. But that’s just me…
Why is it good and is it just T1 or just staying in one club in general?
Not sure about other orgs but I recall Wolf once say 'If you stay with T1, you'll never go hungry.' I think they have a reputation of taking care of their players after retirement. Keria also heard other veteran players say stay with T1 and that was a factor in re-signing his last contract.
Normally an average esports player shouldn't stay in one team for too long unless they're absolutely cracked (faker) or helped the team get achievements. This is pretty normal in dota too
But also a pros of staying in one club is that your name is gonna get remembered with the org name but this isn't only your choice the org itself has a choice to kick you out etc. unless of course you got achievements
He still has a very good relationship with the T1 team members.
SKT was the best esports org for anyone to join in Korea since Broodwar. It's why they all stayed in T1 despite the 10-man roster mania or getting crazy offers from China/HLE. Now, this image clearly changed after the Zeus and Joe Marsh saga damaged the brand image built over 20+ years.
History lesson for people who complain about Guma's benching. It wasn't even just Faker back in the day; BOXER was eventually benched and became a bench warmer for Bisu.
edit: totally forgot gumas older bro is literally innovation who told him to go to T1 no matter what.
He knows t1/faker is league better to stay there then go somewhere else for little bit of money I hope peanut comes back someday as a coach or streamer like most skt players do.
is bOner the next face of T1 after faker retires?
The real last nut
Wish he told Zeus and Guma that as well but oh well
Peanut, a man who has played for literally every single major org in the lck, telling oner to stay a one-club man is the peak "do as i say, not as i do" energy. he’s seen the world and decided the grass is definitely greenest at t1 tower lol
Peanut: "stay at t1 forever hyunjoon, it's a blessing"
also peanut: signs with his 7th different team in 8 years
jokes aside, you know the advice is real when it comes from the lck's ultimate journeyman. he knows exactly what you lose when you leave that environment.
Shoulda told Zeus and guma too 🤣
I mean Guma was clearly let go by T1
This sub is reaching unreal levels of T1 gossip. How many posts dealing with the same subject is the subreddit flooded in
