Pretext
Almost 3 years ago, I made a post "Clarifying this subreddit's rules". Over the passage of time I've added or edited the rules but did not have the time to formally update said rules. Now those updates will be solidified in this post.
There will be a month long grace period, so everyone gets a chance to get familiar with the new rules.

Reasoning
The entire point of this subreddit is to showcase that Human life is precious. And to value every second of it. Thats why you will always see me in the comments asking posters to share their fond memories of their loved ones. Thats how we honor those that have passed. I will always encourage people sharing stories at their discretion.
Regarding the ban on blurry pictures. How are people supposed to sympathize with a rubik's cube of pixels? What is even the point of posting that besides "This is the Last Image!" technicality. I understand that high quality photos have only recently become available to the masses but at least try to find the best one. It does not have to the the absolute last image. And you can still add the blurry / grainy last picture as a secondary pic in the album. You can add multiple pictures of the same person or event in the album.
Regarding the ban on all animals. There are many other subreddits that allow for those kind of posts. The main focus of this subreddit is the FRAILTY OF MAN. Humans. People. Thats why I do not allow anything to take away the focus or be sidetracked from the person who passed away. There has been and will always be exceptions but that is on mod discretion. Those exceptions are once in a blue moon and on mod pre-approval.
Regarding the ban on Killers. This subreddit is a positivity focused one, not one focused on psychopaths. I emphasize people sharing the good times they had with the deceased. I do not want idol worship of horrible monsters such as Jeffrey Dahmer. But at the same time, we can not ignore people who orchestrated the destruction of families on a massive scale, instigated war, and genocide such as Adolf Hitler.
Regarding the acceptance of Social Media. A long time ago, I assumed "social media" was a phase and would fade away. Since it is still unfortunately here, we now accept it. So any additional context that is from the deceased can be put in the comments. From their tweets, videos, music, photography, art work, etc etc. If reddit doesn't allow it, please use a reliable hosting when doing so. Do not put anything that could cause someone else to be Doxxed.
Regarding all the new rules. I split up a bunch of minors rules I had previously put together under misc rules. Which people did not know about. So now they are their own rules. By doing so they should be visible immediately. So now there are no more misc rules. Furthermore, if there is still something unclear, leave a comment and I will do my best to resolve it there or update the above rules.

The "No Pets" rule has been in place for +6* years.
First, Folks I am reading all your comments. I'm not ignoring anyone. I am just not going to reply to each one of you separately saying the same thing.
Second, The no pets rule has been in effect for over +4 years. It is simply moved from being one of the many "misc" rules to it's own rule. Thats it. I did it so it is easier to see. Nothing has changed except for it's location.
Third, If my reasoning in the main post is not good enough for you, than I am sorry we can not see eye to eye. That rule is not going to change. I have given multiple alternatives. You are more than welcome to post your non-human family members there.
I agree with the other commenter, having to edit out animals if they happen to be in someone's last photo is a silly rule. I want to see someone's entire last photo, not just the party of it arbitrarily deemed acceptable by mods. And what if someone's last photo has an animal so heavily featured that you cannot edit it or without removing the person too? Like if their last photo is them holding a puppy up to their face? Does that make the photo not worth sharing or taking about just because they dared to snuggle with a puppy?
It's a silly rule.
Literally just allow pets to be in the frame and it's perfect. Don't know what the weird hate boner is with pets on this sub. So many people spend their precious last moments with family including pets.
Well since they think social media is a weird fad that’s “still around” it could be those classic elderly people that see animals as property instead of family members.
Yeah but that’s kinda like having a “no mugs” rule then, right? If they’re just seen as property. Imagine not being able to post a last image if someone happens to be drinking coffee, or cropping it weird to cut out the cup. Makes zero sense
The “no animals” rule is way too broad. I 100% agree this is NOT the subreddit to post pets, this should focus on human lives. But if the actual last image ever taken of a person includes a pet, it shouldn’t need to be edited out. Usually the edits end up far more distracting than the presence of the animal. (E.g. having an oddly cropped picture, or drawn over white blob)
Animals are important to many people. If a person dies and their cat was next to them in their hospice bed in their last image, that animal clearly was important to them and I feel it’s genuinely dishonorable to their memory to crop out. It doesn’t take away respect from the person to show the true, unaltered last image; I would consider the opposite to be true. Just something to consider.
• Strictly people only
• No posts with pets visible.
• No posts of any animals.
• If your only picture has a animal in it, crop it out.
This is stupidly strict like wtf are you actually thinking here? So if my mother happened to be holding her beloved dog in the last picture I have of her I couldn't use that picture? Even though the person is the focus of the post?
Fuck right off.
Seriously so you have to put a big censor bar over the pet or the picture isn't allowed and the mods will remove it like wtf. Being forced to deface a last photo of your loved one just because they have a pet in it is wild to me. Reddit mods continuing to be the worst thing about Reddit
Due to the comments here it seems the right thing to do is to update it again and remove the no animals rule.
Sorry, the best he can do is zero communication and keeping the rule as it is.
That will literally never happen unless /u/jaxspider is removed as head mod.
You think making people weirdly crop out pictures of random animals who aren't even the main subject of the photo is going to help commenters focus on the life of the person? I've seen these threads and they're all just discussions on how stupid this rule is, just as this one is. It takes away from the image much more than the animal ever would.
I agree with not wanting a subject of the photo to be an animal, I'm not here to see pets that had to be put down. But to ban an animal from even appearing in a photo at all is really stupid and changes the intent of this sub from 'last images' to 'images of dead people in the past sometime'.
I like the idea of this sub in that we can see the beauty and ugliness of life and death. People having the time of their life not knowing it's about to come to an end, and people who have spent years suffering and their death almost feels like a relief that their pain is over to those who care about them. An animal in the picture is so irrelevant to any of that. And we can't forget that for some people, their animals ARE their lives.
Can we focus more on removing and downvoting comments that focus on the animal only?
Why can’t someone’s last living memory be with the pet they love?
Because they clearly have some weird vendetta against pet owners, someone check and see if they also moderate r/petfree
That No Pictures with Pets visible rule is trash.
I get not making a post about animals last images but not letting people post someone with their animal is very silly. Like do have a vendetta against animals or something lmao.
Why do the mods here hate animals so much?
It’s weird how anti-animal they are.
Yeah, I agree with almost all the rules except the pet one, not because I am overly sensitive about pets per se but because a much more sensible and easy to mod rule would be that the 'Main subject of the post must be human'.
What if the last image subject is a famous (or not) rodeo rider in action, or the last image happens to be someone sliding down a mountain after having tried tried to save their pet (in vain) or any of the number that can be thought of?
For whatever reason the pets thing seems to be a big issue for you, when the solution is just a humans - main subject rule.
Edit - changed a very strange word replacement
I’m so glad to see the hate for the ‘no pets’ rule too. I was reading it and just thinking that rule is so fucking wild.
I get posts not focusing on animals, but it's pretty ridiculous to say you can't have any animals in the photo, full stop
These mods would stop the release of the cure for cancer if the news release photo had a cat in the background stg
Okay literally everything is reasonable except for the no pets / animal in the photo of the subject. That’s insane.
What exactly does the "Reason"column represent? Would there be a rule in place that has a reason value of bad? Seems like patting yourself on the shoulder.
Also rules about animals are weird, not sure I understand that either
Thats left over for when I was making this post. It was my personal reminder what rules needed to be worked on. I can remove it if it bugs you guys that much.
Nah it was just funny lol
Well 10 comments in and every one is bashing the “no pets” rule, rightfully so. Hopefully u/jaxspider heeds the subs wishes and gets rid of it.
That’s a huge ask given how they’ve acted when asked to enforce other rules in the past. Just look at the posts about Hulk Hogan, Charlie Kirk or other controversial folks. Seems the no humorous or mean spirited comments rule kinda goes out the window depending on if the mod likes them or not.
The animal rule is incredibly stupid. It needs to be changed.
At this point a MOD needs to directly address this and give a really good reason for this rule. Like, what is your thought process for this incredibly strict and needless rule.
Honestly ready to dump this sub over this rule. It feels like a typical mod power trip and micromanagement of the sub.
It's important to a LOT of people that their pets are remembered with them after death. I've seen quite a few headstones in r/cemeteryporn that include pets, including featuring photos of the deceased with their pets on the stone.
Oh the mods are a bunch of animal hating dumb fucks. No animals at all is a silly, stupid, weird rule. Fuck this shitty ass sub.
so if the last image is say, somebody hugging their beloved pet, should we just blob out the pet? cover their eyes like they're in witness protection?
What if the animal is front and center right next to the person? Like they're hugging the thing?
Then post another picture. The main post says in clear writing it does not have to be the absolute last picture.
Do you hate animals?
Stupid and pointless rule. Power tripping and nothing more
terminally online autist lmao
You make that sound like a insult.
No animals is still a silly powertrip of a rule, and no amount of your reasoning will ever change that.
If the last photo of my loved one includes an animal, who are you to tell me it’s not acceptable?
Well, you’re the king of this little subreddit, I guess!
okay i get the no pet loss rule cuz yeah theirs a whole ass sub for that but no pets at all? Reddit mod moment
"Do not post people suffering or on the verge of death."
Thank you! I am so over seeing people on their death beds.
Besides, I think it's more interesting when it's a photo of a person who is just living their life with no real knowledge of what's to come and I think it helps the rest of us to be more aware and careful and appreciative of life because it shows that anything can happen.
So if Hitler, Dahmer etc are allowed, why was R.E. Lee deleted? What he did was shitty yes, why ignore it for other mass murderers?
I was not mistaken. I saw the one that automod deleted. Way to be 👍
This dude fricken hates animals lol
The Mods are Obviously PETA supporters
[deleted]
It literally is the first rule of this subreddit. And when people don't mention it, I'm forced to be the bad guy and demand it from them or threaten them with their post removal.
What can we say to have you undo this?
Part of me wishes Celebrities were moved to a separate subreddit, reserving this sub for personal loss. But looking at the post counts and such, I don't know if this sub would survive a split like that...
As the solo mod here, I have already made the hard stance of splitting this subreddit to be exclusively humans only and I get shit on daily for it. I am not about to make my life worse but segregating it even further.
Honestly, celebrity posts are just to get traffic to this sub, the real meat of this sub is the personal posts.
I think removing the pets rule would go a long way to get rid of "I get shit on daily for it"
You skipped the part where I said it was a hard stance. Meaning its not going to change. Period.
You're free to have that stance, but most people don't understand why. You don't need to explain it but don't expect people to not be frustrated by it. Also maybe having other mods would lift the burden on you a bit?
All posts are manually approved by a mod
I just wanted to mention, that if you wish to post here, it has to be mod approved.
No animals at all? Fuck your sub. Buncha assholes
Your reddit account is younger than the creation and enforcement of the No Pets rule.
Who gives a shit? You're acting like every other power-tripping reddit moderator who refuses to listen to their community. I already left the sub, we deal with enough nanny state bullshit in our day to day lives.
