Im having a hard time with listening practice...but strangely I seem to have an easier time listening when I can read a transcript while listening? I feel like I first discovered this phenomena when I was struggling to take a test, but when the teacher assigned us an open book test it was so much easier.
Bizarrely, it is also easier to listen when I do not have earplugs in. Thoughts?
Dude discovered subtitles.
It's even easier when the transcript is in your first language!
/uj actually, not always. I'm French and it's actually harder for me to understand German with French subtitles than German with German subtitles because the word order isn't always the same. So sometimes the words I hear and the words I read don't match at all and it's confusing lol
But this is a jerk sub. The premise of my comment is that when you hardly understand the target language, you can just read subtitles in your first language to understand what you're watching. Your comment resonates when you actually understand the target language.
(Post this was based on was moreso about trying to prevent in-head translation and thats far more a challenge so I understand their struggle, the first part of that post just sounded funny out of context lol)
i thought this was real for a sec lol
Nah, that makes no sense.
