Native Romanian guy, but have been living in England for more than 3 years, and I have studied English for ~15 years, and taught it for 2 years as well. Tried learning some European Portuguese with Duolinguo before, but got bored of it. I still want to learn it properly though. Interested in Tagalog mostly because of a girl (she's no longer important, but still curious about the language and culture). Feel free to offer other languages too, don't mind a normal chat either.

  • Hello! I would like to practice my romanian (was born there but skills atrophied significantly after moving to canada as a child). I only speak english, but could chat about my boring life in canada or life as a nurse?

  • If you still haven’t found someone to teach you Tagalog, feel free to shoot me a DM :)

  • Hi there. I'm brazilian portuguese teacher and I'd love to chat with you. I'm practicing my english and now I'm bit curious about Romanian. Hit my DM! :)

  • Hey I am native Spanish speaker seeking for English, if you want to learn some Spanish you can send me a message:)!

  • Hi friend. I'm native in portuguese and i can help you with my language. Sejd me a DM please! 🙂

  • Hey, if you’re interested in Tagalog (and Filipino culture) I’d be down to talk!

  • heey I’m a brazilian 1st-year medical student and I’m looking for someone to help me with English, since I wanna apply for my residency program in the US. I have a solid background in portuguese because, obviously, I’m a native speaker and also because a proper grammatical knowledge is a must-know in order to enter med school. I’ll be more than happy to help you!

I’ve been studying Portuguese for over 6 years now but I still can’t understand what people are saying. I have to translate everything into English to understand.

Mas eu imagino que seja meio complicado para você mesmo. Até uns 4 anos depois de começar a estudar inglês eu ainda fazia isso, e mesmo estando cercado por inglês aqui no Brasil (filmes, séries, algumas expressões ....). Como o português não é um idioma que você tem contato diariamente (por exemplo, você não chega no cinema e tem um filme em português com legendas em inglês), eu creio que isso seja parte do processo.

I practice every day with my girlfriend who only speaks Portuguese and I just visited Fortaleza where she lives. I was there for a month. But when I hear people speak I can’t make out what they are saying. I watch movies and videos here. Thanks for the help!

Sometimes I have trouble understanding too, depending on the area, even though I'm a native speaker. For instance, in Fortaleza people have a completely different accent, so it is a nuisance to absorb each word properly. But that's what every language learner has to face hahaha Good luck with your Portuguese, I'm pretty sure you'll improve a lot. Congrats on learning such a difficult language :)

Don’t congratulate me yet, I haven’t been able to converse yet! It’s frustrating. I’ll keep trying and hope that I will be able to converse someday. Thanks for the help!

I’m going to have to use a translator. I can’t translate enough in my head to understand it.
