I've wanted to learn Teochew—preferably from someone who lives/lived in the Chaozhou area. (I know there are speakers in Singapore, Taiwan, and other countries, but some linguistic differences have naturally developed.) Aside from a few websites, many of the learning resources are extremely old, but the more pressing issue is that I can't find a language partner. Actual speaking practice is crucial for any language and even more so for a dialect like this.
I've looked on several language exchanges, and so far I've seen Mandarin, Cantonese, and Hokkien. I do want to learn Mandarin eventually, but as odd as it may seem, I want to learn Teochew first.
Though not a professional teacher, I'm a native English speaker and have given lessons to students of Chinese, Japanese, and Russian descent.
Hi, I know you posted this a while ago, but if you'd like to speak to other Teochew speakers, there's a group chat for it. Though they aren't really from the Chaozhou area. DM me if you do.
Hei, I'm interested in learning Teochew too as it is actually the language my family speaks. Sadly, I never got the chance to learn it as they think it's not important for me to learn and never speakhhopetojointhegrouph it with me. :( So i hohopehopehopehohopetojoij
