おはようございます、

Good morning,
I'm a first year university student studying Linguistics and Japanese. At this time I do not think that I will continue the degree into next semester, but I'd like to continue learning Japanese. The class I'm in is only just starting to get into Kanji this week so I've avoided using any in my introduction, even though there are a handful I can somewhat recognize while texting. I feel like that gives a most honest impression of where I am in my learning journey. I'm also 35 years old. I graduated from college (the first time) in 2012 when I was ~22. My degree then was Computer Science and I continue to utilize that degree and work in that field.
My Japanese is very basic and conversation may be difficult, but if you'd like to struggle with me I'll do my best to help you improve your English. It would be my preference if we could add each other on LINE or Discord and begin with some text conversations, before diving into speech... simply because my ineptitude embarasses me.
I've visited Japan twice before. My most recent trip was in May 2024, following Golden Week. I stayed in the Tokyo area and traveled to Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe via Shinkansen. Japan is a beautiful country and I'd like to spend more time there, preferably further away from touristy areas.
If you'd like help learning or improving your English, or even just want to talk software development, post a reply below.
