Here are three considerations:

Is the person currently learning Korean or is their passion for it sufficient? It seems challenging to convey anything to someone who knows nothing about the language, but I think it's okay if there is enough enthusiasm.

Is there not a significant time difference? If there's a significant time gap, the overlap in the time we both are active might be significantly reduced, making communication through messages, voice, and video challenging.

Age...? The closer in age, the more understanding and shared experiences, so I added this as well (lowest priority).

1 year old upon birth, turn another year on January 1st.
Technically a baby born on December 30 will be 1 year old on December 31, and 2 years old on January 1.
