Whilst looking for how ALPHA DRIVE ONE was charting outs of Korea. During my check of QQ music (China) I stumbled upon a piece of data that fascinated me, this was Apink’s recent comeback was doing really well on the General charts, not just the K-pop only chart in all my six months of this I have never seen a K-pop act appear in the general charts.

So I was wondering is this a normal thing for this group or a wild breakout hit?

  • many chinese kpop stans are still heavily into 3rd/2nd gen, and by the looks of it on bilibili, yeah china just loves apink! i dont have extensive knowledge but just by looking at the views, videos of apink's recent comeback consistently get at least 3x the views compared to youtube (bilibili also has a much smaller userbase) apink seems to be very respected among chinese kpop stans

    I see thank you

  • I would guess that since APink was popular well before China started to close itself off to K-Pop, their recent comeback probably drew the curiosity of Chinese fans from back then.

    I see thank you

  • the song itself is doing well in China!! They also have a stable fanbase there, presumably the largest of 3rd gen groups

You mean 2nd gen ? Apink are not 3rd gen and I imagine bts/BP have bigger chinese fanbase than Apink

Sorry my mistake, I got confused cuz China has its own generation system and 2nd gen is split into 2. In China Apink, AOA, Sistar, Exid etc. are considered 3rd gen, while fx, tara, snsd etc. are still 2nd gen. BTS and Blackpink would be 4th gen in China

Edit: BTS is 3rd gen, my mistake

And exo they're third gen or fourth gen in China please ?

3rd, 2011~13 is 3rd. Also my mistake, BTS is also 3rd gen in China (I'm a gg fan and don't know much abt bgs, I always thought they debuted in 2014 until I checked just now😭)

Actually this system makes more sense, because 2nd gen was pretty long! And 1st gen even longer than any of the gens,

  • Apink were such a huge group at their peak, that they continue to do well when they release new music.

  • aside from all thst was already said, i remember Dilemma went viral in china because apparently it sounds like “fuck your mom”.

  • Apink was popular back in the days.

However, them on charts nowadays is definitiely a combination of money talking and probably less so, nostalgia.
