Anyone noticed his social aniety reduced under Keto? Tough life when you still have it at the age of 29. Also would be interesting to know if the effects stayed for a longer period than just a few months.

  • Oh, it stays if you stick to keto/low carb.

In my opinion, anxiety and other so-called mental problems and psychological issues are helped by this diet. And why? Well, the super steady blood sugar you get feeds your brain steadily without the crashes and the ups and downs.

It's very, very simplified , I know. But research shows that, too.

My own 'research' started in 1980 when I first did keto - Atkins. And I 'll wager that most people can do better mentally on this diet; even everyday issues, stress etc. are easier to cope with.

    I'm 65 y/o today. I'm here for life - in every way...

    Happy Keto Christmas! 😅

  • I’ve been on keto for over 5 years and my anxiety has only gotten worse.

  • I am not totally cured of it by any means, but going keto definitely eased my anxiety and depressive episodes (and I’m 8+ years into keto at this point). Both are more infrequent now and much less intense when they do hit. I am much better socially on keto than I ever was before, and these are issues I’ve had my entire 39 years of life.

  • All my anxiety/panic disorder lessens by like 85% when I'm on healthy keto.

It's only comes back when I start to introduce crap or go off the wagon

  • Yeah, I feel more outgoing, upbeat confident, and stress resistant since I ditched the carbs. It didn’t hurt that I look better , but that came later.

I’m still an introvert, it wasn’t a personality replacement, but it was a positive adjustment .

  • The effects of low carb eating have been documented since the 1920's with research done by Dr Wilder linking ketogenic diet to the treatment of epilepsy and Dr Otto Warburg who discovered how cancer cells metabolized glucose, which led to the hypothesis that ketogenic diet migh slow cancer growth.

Research is ongoing to link a ketogenic diet to improved mental wellness.

However in everyday life, others may apply pressure for someone to break keto and try something indulgent.

A counter is to intermittent fasting and right now is a fasting window. That takes the pressure off

  • All of my problems that could be thought of as "nervous energy" type problems left the building. Running on ketones is a totally different vibe. On ketones you are the tortoise instead of the hare if that makes sense. If I cheat it all comes back within a day though. So yeah I believe it will help you for sure

  • No I did not notice any mental changes.

  • I notice I have a quieter mind on keto as in I can watch TV without dialogue running through my mind where as before I was constantly having the most random thoughts pop up out of nowhere like my mind just wouldn't shut up. As far as social anxiety goes I have noticed a difference but im not completely cured but I dont expect to be when its been plaguing me since middle school.

  • A massive reduction in mine after going low carb but I have pots/insulin resistance/dysautonomia so it makes sense

  • Didn’t work for me.

  • My anxiety is immensely reduced. One thing I noticed is that I have become much more social. Been going to the same gym for years and never really met anyone. Since I went zero sugar a year ago but especially after going full keto in the summer I’ve met over a dozen people. I’m on a first name basis with most of them. Socializing and talking to people comes naturally now. I do think part of it is the diet and part of it is the unconscious confidence you develop from becoming healthier.

  • Anxiety definitely reduced. I did pair it with exercise, which included bicycling, and just the wind in my hair and getting outside I'm sure had a positive effect while in my way to the gym, but I'd definitely recommend.
