I’m sorry if this is a bit personal, but I’m hoping you can help me out. I’m currently living in the countryside, in a 1ldk with parking for 70,000(I know I can’t get that in Tokyo)
I’m planning to move to Tokyo (Koto, Sumida, or Edogawa) and I’m hoping to find an apartment between 25m and 40m in size. I’m looking at a rent range of 80,000 to 110,000 yen. But I’ve heard that it’s almost impossible to find an apartment like that in those areas.
So, I’m curious to know how much others are paying for similar apartments in those areas. I’d really appreciate any insights you can give me. Thanks a bunch!

Why don't you just check out Suumo? Depending on how many minutes away you are from a station and which line you're looking for, it's absolutely possible to find something like what you're looking for in those areas.
I’m currently using eheya. But I do check on Suumo and liful homes
I live in Taito-ku, roughly 5 mins walk from a major Hibiya line station. 15 mins walk to Asakusa. And I pay 125,000¥ for 37 sqm
Great area
I live alone and only make 330,000 a month I think 125,000 would be too high for me I was looking at Nishi-Nippori I found a few places just kinda small(24-27m)
curious why you need 1DK if living alone, when 1R or 1K is much better suited for that? less area to clean and heat/cool too.
I don’t like when people visit and sit on my bed. I like my personal space
Had a 2LDK about 54 square metres in Kashiwa, Chiba for 60k.
Will be difficult to find what you're looking for in those areas, yeah, but prices drop fast once you get outside Tokyo.
How was Kashiwa and did you commute to Tokyo often? I’m also on the east but not that far out (closer to Ichikawa) and I want to increase my space for the same rent but I’m worried I’ll waste so much time being further out
Kashiwa was fine. Pretty urban too, and also pretty close to Funabashi so you have another option there rather than just Tokyo.
Commuted to Tokyo sometimes. Fairly regularly for about a year, but mostly Eastern Tokyo so not too far in. Did work in Roppongi on Fridays too. Getting my Friday night commute into Tokyo and back paid for was a nice perk of that job, and TBH the main reason I took it.
Appreciate it. Might try for 3LDK in that area if I can do it for 100k-120k
I want to live in Tokyo for at least 2 years. I’ve been a country side person for years so when I do my big move Tokyo is my goal
I think in a few years I’ll move to Chiba though
There are a lot of variables which impact price beyond size and neighborhood.
The sample size you get on Reddit will help a little, but you can get quicker and better results by searching on real estate websites.
Try Suumo a bit and play around with the filters.
Yep I’m using those too. Idk I just feel this is a bit more realistic
40m, 2DLK, parking included for 57,000 yen. I love Fukuoka.
My friend used to live in Fukuoka Nice area
this is more generic but check suumo, at home, etc. set those criteria and search. you’ll find something and see the quality, distance from station, etc.
I use eheya because I’m going to work with their international office But I use suumo and homes as well
190k for a 2LDK 50m2 inside and close to the Yamamote line.
Nice that’s a bit outside my budget (I’m a part time worker) but that’s huge
Yeah understand just wanted to help give you some more datapoints. I’m not in Shibuya or anything wild but well connected areas can get a bit pricy.
Do you really need the car? It will make a huge difference. There are like 10 tap and drive car shares around my apartment. Times car is literally everywhere in suburban Tokyo.
Other option is to look at monthly parking if you have some kind of enthusiast car or passion project. If it’s just for transport consider car sharing services.
I don’t. I wil sell my car once I move. For a few days I’ll keep it then donate to or sell it. It’s pretty old so not worth keeping
64 m2, 10F
No rent per se but it cost 55 million yen, West Tokyo, 6 minute walk from a major JR station.
Uggghh sounds like a dream
90000 for a 2k plus 20000 for parking in Kita-Ku
Damnnnn that’s what I want haha
How long have you lived there?
2020- Fuchu station, 2 minute walk, 60m2, 1LDK, 140000¥
2 minutes 😳 Good find
Back when I lived in an apartment, it was 5.5man for 2ldk in tohoku. building was around 20yo when we moved in.
Oh wow you’ve been in the same place 20 years? Is your place rent controlled?
No the building itself was 20 years old. We lived there for 7 years
Ohhhh ok
My friend lived in his Leo palace for 17 years
Close to Tokyo Tower, 70sqm, 450k yen
450! Geez can I live with you lol You won’t even notice I’m there
65m2 2LDK in Chuo-ku for 200k. We are a 5min walk away from 4 different lines. It’s very convenient to get anywhere in the city.
That’s huge! And a good area right near everything
I live in a 3ldk in Arakawa. My rent is around 240k
I’m in Nerima. 68 m2 2LDK for 137,000. No deposit. No key money.
I was looking in Nerima. You got a really good deal For 110,000 the place was only 30m
Yup. Definitely got lucky with the current place. I was in Yokohama for 10 years from 2005-2015. Lived in a 3LDK, 110 m2 for 170k then. I miss that place…
110m that’s a friggin house
lol it was the entire floor of a building. If you think that’s big, look at the houses available out in Higashimurayama. Lived in a 200 m2 house there for a year 168k per month. Crazy heating/cooling bills…easy access to Shinjuku too.
Nice. There’s no way I would need all that space My apartment now is 46’ and I never use my living room and dining room.
70m2 3DK for 95,000 in Kanagawa, 15 mins from the station The building is from the 80s
How are older buildings Every place I’ve ever lived has been new
It’s made of concrete so that’s good, interior is a little older (no washlet toilet) but pretty good otherwise. Big minus might be that the building has no auto-lock at the entrance so not great in case you’re a woman living alone
Yea moving to Tokyo I’m looking for auto lock
Like more than likely I’m ok but still that peace of mind is needed
Shimotakaido - 32m2 - 140.000 yen.
That’s a really good deal
Nothing to add of value except to say goddamn Kanto is expensive😭
I had a 3LDK 90+m² pets allowed apartment with a yard in Osaka suburbia for 103,000. The idea of paying more than that for 2/3 less space is insane to this country-ass bumpkin.
lol ikr
Roppongi, 520,000 for 97sqm
Dang are you like a surgeon 🥹 I found a few in my price range but on the east side of Tokyo
Check UR danchi's, pretty cheap to move in and out and the rooms are nice.
UR in Edogawa, 42m2, 110K rent, the building is old but renovated.
65 square meters, 2LDK, a second floor, parking space and internet included in the price. 47.000 yen. Takamatsu, Kagawa.
230k Yen a month. 52sqm. 1LDK 4 minute walk from Shin Okubo and Shinjuku Station. Super convenient.
I think you can definitely find something similar to your place in Kanagawa.
Lucky I love shin obuko
