Hey all, so my car was in a shop when my Shaken expired so I was unable to renew it. I have the temporary plate already but I’m unsure how to fix it to my car without breaking the seal on the rear plate which I’m pretty sure is illegal for me to do right?
The front plate I think I can just screw off and replace but for the rear one should I (can I) use zip ties or something?

mechanic here,
yes , front plate you can just replace it with the temporary one.
for rear if you are really not comfortable with taking off the seal,
remove right side bolt and put the temporary plate on top of your current place and use a bit longer bolt and secure it together.
if you are worried about it's not being secure, just duct tape/ use masking tape to make it secure with the normal number plate.
if you are willing to remove the seal,
you can just replace the rear number plate with the temporary one and once you get to the 陸運局 ask them for a new seal. they'll check your 車体番号 with shaken sho and give you a new one for like 100-200yen.
attach it before you leave the 陸運局 and you are good.
Only put it over the front plate. Leave the back alone.
If you break the seal you need to get new plates registered to your car.
no you go to the shaken place, they check your registration , and put a new seal on it…
I did it once..
Yeah... they register the plates to your car.
Yea but you don’t get new plates just a seal
