I force you to make it, export it yourselves to support our economy. In return I support you in your regional conflict that I have indirectly instigated because I can’t take another country overtaking the pole position. Economic, fiscal and military colonization Anno 2026.
I hadn’t checked their website in a while and you’re right, they no longer sell it. They also stopped selling the Hilux as well it seems. Wonder if that has to do with the Tundra announcement.
It’s so annoying pick-trucks are “load carrying vehicles” so 1 year shaken anddddd same fee as large trucks on the highway. I want a hilux but those 2 points are such a turn off…
It will sell well enough. There are plenty of people that have imported them already and according to my local dealership "request" the Tundra often. I think they likely won't sell well in dense urban areas, but besides that, I think they'll sell well enough to keep selling them here. Unless the cost is ridiculous...
I would guess all of the Japanese people that have been paying insane amounts to import them and the same Japanese people that have been requesting them from their local dealerships. Plenty of uses for big truck, especially in rural areas. I was just in Hokkaido a few weeks ago and saw two full size Tundras and full size Dodge Ram.
I really hope not. Can you imagine trying to squeeze past one of these monsters in a narrow city street ? Was stuck behind a LHD import car in Mickey D's the other week waiting for the driver to get out and pay for their order.
We don't need anymore oversized cars on the roads here
I have a long claw grab thing for that. Useful at ticket machines too. Plenty of LHD foreign cars here, so people usually learn to deal with it. I've never had to get out of my car and hold up traffic though.
We don't see many in the inaka, most of the foreign brands like VW, Peugot, Mini, etc all seem RHD.
Our farm truck is a four wheel drive kei truck, as is all of the other farm trucks surrounding us. Can't imagine trying to squeeze one of those monsters down a dirt track between tanbo or fields. They seem suited to rural America, much less so to rural Japan let alone the big cities.
I think the business theory is that they could, but no one will buy it and so the cost of exporting it could be at a loss. Much cheaper to build it where there are needs. Reduces “tariffs” too.
Doubt it. Spent a lot of time driving around rural Hokkaido in winter and I've seen 4WD Kei trucks, a few Elfs and Dynas but not pick-up trucks. When things get really interesting they bring out the tractors.
American pick-up trucks are status signals and not real work vehicles. Most Kei trucks have the same bed size as a f150.
i assume its a political decision more than a smart business one. though you could argue its smart business wise as it makes it easier to deal with the federal government if you are satisfying their desires... at least on paper. "look we import, they just don't sell well!"
Not Just Bikes has a great video on how these things are incredibly dangerous and will likely increase deaths in any country that imports them; especially child deaths. Similar things are happening in the EU right now as a result of Trump tariff negotiations.
That channel is shockingly bad. Just emotional dribble most of the time. But these cars are horrible and should be way more regulated outside the US. Shame they aren't.
I feel like the target audience for 4x4 pick up trucks in Japan aren't the kind of person who wants an import from a company based in Aichi lol. If they're going to make their life slightly more inconvenient with a big truck it's going to be a Ford or Chevy lol.
I already see a Tundra parked at my inaka train station every so often and I wonder what the owner's story is. And no, it isn't a Hilux, it's too big and the steering wheel is on the left.
There’s nowhere to “overhang,” I’m talking about the actual size of the parking space into which the vehicle must fit.
My current car is 1847mm wide with mirrors folded and the space is about 1920mm wide.
A Tundra is 2022mm. Won’t physically fit. I would have to rent another parking space in a lot somewhere away from my who use to even get it registered.
Part of the reason for the huge size of American cars is to fit 300+ lbs obese people into the seat. However Japan almost has no such problem... (maybe only the sumo guys.)
Can't wait to buy a Toyota Tundra and shove it into my house's parking space which is way too narrow to even fit it!
I will tell my parking space just to gaman!
Your parking space will just suck it's teeth if it has any.
‘I think it’s difficult…’
Thats no gaman... thats kurushi...
Wait I feel like I read this doujin somewhere
dont worry, they will sell single digit units.
That's the idea. No one will buy it because of the size.
Economic and financial colonization 2026 style. Force Japanese companies to make and export their own vehicles back to their own country.
I force you to make it, export it yourselves to support our economy. In return I support you in your regional conflict that I have indirectly instigated because I can’t take another country overtaking the pole position. Economic, fiscal and military colonization Anno 2026.
Toyota has done more for the US citizens than the snake American brands have
Just don't buy them. Problem solved. There can't be enough flogs in Japan to create any real market for the Tundra. Can there?
Use those Thundra to run over those bears in Japan!
The Tundra will not sell well here at all. And I thought the Camry was already available here. Is this a different model?
No, current Camry doesn’t sell in Japan because Toyota wants to save Crown sales. In fact, Crown is better sedan in Japan.
They don’t make crown sedans anymore.
They released one recently after releasing the crown cross and sport.
I just had to look that. Looks like a sedan and a hatch back had a baby.
I hadn’t checked their website in a while and you’re right, they no longer sell it. They also stopped selling the Hilux as well it seems. Wonder if that has to do with the Tundra announcement.
Glad dealers in Japan have to eat the cost and not sell either of them even if it is in their dealership
How’s it any different from the popular Hilux?
The Hilux is similar in size to the Tacoma. My coworker imported a Tundra and that thing is massive for the roads here.
The hilux is a better workhorse.
It’s so annoying pick-trucks are “load carrying vehicles” so 1 year shaken anddddd same fee as large trucks on the highway. I want a hilux but those 2 points are such a turn off…
Some big SUVs are also 1-number and require shaken annually. Ask me how I know...
Yea, the normal hiace, 5 seater but carry’s stuff, 1 year. The giant one that carry’s 8 people 2 years.
Does anyone know why this is?
They are “work vehicles” and carry heavy stuff so need to be checked more often?
Large trucks are only 1 year too. So prob some logic like that.
It's not annoying, it's great.
Any obstacle to those huge stupid trucks on the road is a blessing.
Leave that shit in the US.
1 year shaken is awesome, the year tax is cheaper makes it worth it .
Cheaper in taxes but higher highway fees but not a problem if you don't make too many long distance trips
Give it back to Japan!
It will sell well enough. There are plenty of people that have imported them already and according to my local dealership "request" the Tundra often. I think they likely won't sell well in dense urban areas, but besides that, I think they'll sell well enough to keep selling them here. Unless the cost is ridiculous...
They can propose them here, that doesn’t mean people are going to buy them.
I can't wait to see them try selling premium trim Tundras for ¥25 million.
Who’s gonna buy that??
Total wankers will. Just like in the US.
And nobody will buy it
yeah but can we get suzuki jimny (samurai) back over in the US again?
Seems an odd decision, can't they make cars here in Japan 🤔 ?
The big 4x4s are only made in the US. I wonder if Toyota will make them RHD.
I really hope not. Can you imagine trying to squeeze past one of these monsters in a narrow city street ? Was stuck behind a LHD import car in Mickey D's the other week waiting for the driver to get out and pay for their order.
We don't need anymore oversized cars on the roads here
I sometimes see a LHD Tundra parked at my nearest station and it makes me wonder what the owner is hauling with it that a Hilux couldn't.
They are hauling an overinflated ego and tiny penis.
They just seem like a weird flex for someone over compensating for areas in their life that might be lacking. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink
I have a long claw grab thing for that. Useful at ticket machines too. Plenty of LHD foreign cars here, so people usually learn to deal with it. I've never had to get out of my car and hold up traffic though.

RHD models would also sell well in Australia, Malaysia and Singapore
For the love of god I hope they don't. We don't need any more of those things in Australia.
I agree. Just stating that there is unfortunately some demand in these markets.
I don’t wish to see these monsters on SG roads either.
I think the business theory is that they could, but no one will buy it and so the cost of exporting it could be at a loss. Much cheaper to build it where there are needs. Reduces “tariffs” too.
Especially with the light truck Chicken Tax.
Not sure if that’s an autocorrect fail or not, but I like it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_tax
Its an old 25% tariff on light trucks. Sometimes work vans will get imported with seats, and the seats removed inside the US, to get around this.
Interesting little read. Thanks.
The President of Toyota is a MAGA, so 🤷♂️
RIP Hilux & Daihatsu kei trucks
Besides the Camry just how many of these monstrocities are they expecting to sell?
Why would any Japanese person want to buy a full size pickup with a twin turbo V6 that keeps blowing up?
Idk but I know a guy in izu that bought a f150 and I have no idea how he doesn't fly off cliffs with it
Not everyone lives in cities; there will be people who live in the countryside or on the coasts for whom it will be useful.
I know that. Still, American full sizes have gotten too big. Also, the 3.4 V6s in these trucks are notorious for blowing up
Doubt it. Spent a lot of time driving around rural Hokkaido in winter and I've seen 4WD Kei trucks, a few Elfs and Dynas but not pick-up trucks. When things get really interesting they bring out the tractors.

I'm interested to see how they price this.

And Japan mixes pedestrians and bicycles with traffic far more than the US does. It's a recipe for disaster.
That channel is shockingly bad. Just emotional dribble most of the time. But these cars are horrible and should be way more regulated outside the US. Shame they aren't.
No, that’s not what we want. Import the Hilux diesel to the U.S.
I mean the Hilux has grown to double its initial size, do we really need a Tundra?
Who’s going to buy all these big car in Japan when they have the perfect Kei truck?
Usually the biggest wanker on the block will.
Great, so this trend continues...
/r/fuckcars
Ironically you are not altering the trend by crying about it insanely emotionally. This channel is horrible and that sub-reddit is even worse.
Lol, sounds like you're the one crying here. 🤏
Hopefully they’ll fix the tundra engine blowups before then.
Hopefully not.
The Tundras are alot longer than people expect at first glance. The Camry is definitely welcome. I don’t know much about the highlander
I feel like the target audience for 4x4 pick up trucks in Japan aren't the kind of person who wants an import from a company based in Aichi lol. If they're going to make their life slightly more inconvenient with a big truck it's going to be a Ford or Chevy lol.

I doubt they sell much of those in Japan.
The Toyota highlander would definitely be on my list, if it would actually fit in my garage (it doesn't).
Where in Japan are people expected to want and use these behemoths?
I was curious and looked up the specs, and a Tundra wouldn’t fit in my parking space.
That doesn't stop people in Australia or Europe. They just overhang the parking space so that the adjacent car doesn't fit and they get away with it.
You can ship it there
Japanese people likely won't want it though
US made Tundra in Japan? Good luck trying to use it in metropolitan area.
No one will buy them, which is obviously the point. Just another "win" for the big "winners" in the White House.
Gross.
Part of the reason for the huge size of American cars is to fit 300+ lbs obese people into the seat. However Japan almost has no such problem... (maybe only the sumo guys.)
The Camry already sells here. So does the highlander. I guess the tundra will be something new. Good luck navigating that thing through Tokyo.
