Growth in visitors from mainland China slowed to 3% in November, far below the 37.5% growth across the whole year to the end of November 2025 compared to the same period the previous year.
Japanese news report how a lot of visits are stopped by force. Companies forcing their employees to go to another country, universities cancelling exchanges with Japanese universities, etc. Crazy rumours are apparently circulating online
It seems a decision was made at the central level and passed down through party and state organs which everybody executes under the risk of discipline.
Yup it's not that the average Chinese citizen wants to willingly ruin their vacation last minute, they're forced to since their airline, tour organization, etc cancels due to pressure from above.
Anyone paying attention to the number the Japan Tourism Board reports would have already known. The number of inbound tourism was already on pace to surpass last year’s even before the geopolitical spat broke out.
How many % of this is because people who would never think of going to Japan during this period because of the throngs of Chinese tourists are now finally getting the opportunity to visit when they hear the news
Its not even communist its more of like authoritarian oligarchy one party state , japan doesnt rely on dictatorship because the japanese themselves already follows the rules no need to be dictated and ironically in some areas it has more freedom than Americans themselves
The government may want one thing
The people may want another

The same happened with Taiwan back in 2019 when Chinese banned its own citizens from visiting for tourism

I would and want to go again but I don't travel at the last minute during high season
I think if non-Chinese tourists are able to offset the dropoff in Chinese tourist then great.
But it is honestly too soon to tell since this current dispute with China has been less than 40 days old.
So none of these reports or figures carry much meaning and we likely won't see the true impact until say 6+ months down the road...
Slap in CCP's face. Fuck their bully's mindset
As a Japanese, fuck Communist China!

I hope governments on both sides stop being childish.
Ah yes. "The bullies and the victims should both stop being childish" mindset
My sweet summer child, this kind of behavior is mild and far from unusual when comes to the behavior of governments.
I know, but it's annoying.
Could be worse. I've certainly seen way worse.
Where's the bots that were saying the tourism economy would suffer from less Chinese tourists as if Japan isn't experiencing a global tourism boom.
