We will have 8 full days in Ireland + 2 travel days for flying back to the US.

We are working on an itinerary and currently has the following:

DAY 1: DUBLIN
DAY 2: DUBLIN
DAY 3: CORK
DAY 4: CORK
DAY 5: KILLARNEY
DAY 6: KILLARNEY
DAY 7: GALWAY
DAY 8: GALWAY

Then day 9 we drive back to Dublin for a flight. Is this too aggressive? The drives aren't too long, but 4 hotel changes seems borderline.

  • I would cut it down to 2 places, Dublin and cork or Galway

Yeah 2 or 3 places maybe

  • It’s not just too many hotels it’s too much driving.

Also, flights direct to the US have US customs while you’re still in Ireland so you’ll want to get to the airport 3 hours before your flight.

For 8 days do 2 other places max.

  • I'd recommend 2 nights in Dublin, then 6 nights split between either Killarney + Dingle, or between Galway + Doolin/Clifden

With the above you're cutting down on huge amounts of driving while also seeing Dublin plus a significant amount of one area of the country.

If you're dead set on visiting three distinct areas I'd recommend the following: 2 nights Dublin, 3 Killarney and 3 Galway

The itinerary you've proposed visits four distinct areas. I would not recommend this at all. Far, far too much driving. Don't underestimate how difficult Irish roads are compared to the US. Even shortish trips can take up a significant amount of your day.

  • Yes, too many. Three even two. They are spread out a bit too. Maybe do Dublin and Galway and maybe a night in a place a bit closer, like Clifden. Killarney is a town, not a city by the way.

  • My advice? Cut out 2 of those destinations. You need your last night to be in Dublin, at one of the hotels near the airport. Pick ONE other city. When you do, get back to us for oodles of suggestions.

  • This will be exhausting. I never recommend a long drive before a flight. Stay in Dublin the night before your flight. - day 1: arrive stay Dublin - day 2-4: Galway - day 5-7: Killarney - day 8: assuming you are driving, leave early and stop at castles on your way back to Dublin. Stay the night in Dublin - day 9: depart
