Hi everyone,
I worked for two years in a private company before COVID, before starting my current job. I was young and a bit naive then, though I remember paying 5% with a 5% employer match for a pension. Recently a friend who is changing jobs was talking about having to transfer his pension to his new employer's scheme - I never thought about such a thing when I left that old job.
Is that money basically gone, or is there a way to claim it back?
Hi /u/Caustic_Durian,
Have you seen our flowchart?

If the two years working for previous employer included 6 months probation where you joined the pension 6 months into a 2 year employment term, the employer match is likely gone. But your contributions and associated geiwth can be recovered.
It will be invested somehow and you should get annual statements from the company the pension is with. They all have online portals that you can log into and check the current balance. I’m sure HR in your old company will help if you are having difficulty tracking it down.
Thanks for your reply. I've moved quite a bit since then so that would explain the lack of letters.

It should be still there for you. You don’t have to move it. There is a service to help you find the pension. https://mypension.ie/find-my-lost-pension-ireland/
