• What a c*nt. Says literally nothing for 2 years of a genocide then comes out with this.

Was as quick as anyone to condemn October 7th

What's wrong with condemning October 7th?

Why are you asking me this? Where have I said it's wrong to condemn October 7th?

If read quickly it just reads as if you were saying he were to condemn the Gaza war but not October 7th. I think that’s why they asked that.

I believe they are trying to say he has said "something" before now.

But he's said several things about Gaza.

The logic of /u/Mysterious_Pop_4071 appears to be that he should not have condemned October 7th. I'm trying to work out why.

Ah ok. I dont know. frankly I tend not to think to much about Bono.

It took a "humanitarian" 2 years to condemn what is being called a genocide. Took him 2 days to condemn October 7th. That is my point. Not that he shouldn't have condemned either.

    Aha understood.

He should’ve called for a ceasefire and humanitarian aid to go in. Not for a convicted terrorist to be released. He’s deluded…

    My opinion

Please send on a link to this

  • He found his voice at last after largely ignoring the situation in Gaza until it was acceptable to speak out.

Damned if he did damned if he didnt

Boohoo, his finances will take a hit so he wouldn’t speak out. Gtfo

Took him way too long to say anything. Isn’t he invested in Israel and some companies there… almost certain he is.

The $45 million loan used to buy Bono and The Edge's hotel is from an Israeli bank. Issued in October 2023.

This bank is listed in a UN database of firms profiting from Israel’s colonisation of Palestinian land.

He also has a bunch of other direct investments he's made in Israeli tech companies.

The guy is only interested in the bottom line.

This is a bit too afraid to ask… but all my life - everyone has said they hated Bono. It’s like a meme but also serious?

I don’t care about Bono or U2… why exactly do we hate Bono so much?

Pontificates to so many people but of course rarely lives the most moral life himself.

Tax dodger, massive financial investor in apartheid Israel, pals with some of the most problematic high profile men, essentially refused to comment at all on the genocide in Gaza for a long time despite usually being a big mouth about humanitarian issues & war, licks up to some of the worst of the worlds politicians, accepted a British Knighthood, made up ridiculous lies about political threats against him in his biography… & that’s all I felt like typing in a short period of time.

On top of the holier than thou hypocrisy and selling out paddywhackery in the states to support his own political views, he seems to have a reputation as a rebel when he's been a shill for the status quo for everything save for apartheid South Africa.

Hes also good mates with a lot of the Epstein list and he accepted a knighthood from the queen

I mean for me personally, the self righteous holier than thou attitude, mixed with the extremely hyperbolic stance he has with poverty and hunger, with a small dash of arrogance with the music his band makes.

Apart from that, he just seems a bit a prick

He killed all those children by clapping.

I saw Do Go On live. Fans come up with a subject comedians have to go away research and then talk about. Since they were going to Ireland they picked their own subjects and one of them picked Bono.

When she said she was doing her essay on Bono the whole crowd booed and she said "wow, do all Irish people hate Bono or something?" And the whole crowd shouted "yeah!", she then said "why?" And you could hear a pin drop in the place.

A lot of people hate him because they've heard other people say it and feel like they need to go with the crowd.

Personally I hate him because he's holier than though, while being a tax-dodger.

Bono is disliked for mostly three main reasons. One, he has been seen to be having serious notions for around three decades. It’s Ireland, people would prefer people to just stay in their lane (unless it’s on things they personally agree with. Then it’s ok). Second, U2 as a company moved their tax royalties to the Netherlands because of their favourable tax status. This irked many people too. Third, and this is a smaller group, Bono said bad things about Sinn Fein in the 80s and 90s. They don’t forget.

Is it illegal to invest in a start-up from Israel? Last time I checked it’s not illegal to invest in companies like Wix.

Firstly who said it was illegal. No one. Secondly, where did you get that angle and think it could work? Thirdly, get fucked

It’s not illegal? Grand, I thought it wasn’t, so why can’t he invest in Israel? I won’t say likewise to you as I try to remain respectful.

I'd rather be damned by the people committing the genocide than those trying to stop it.

Nope, just damned if he didnt. He's a zio pawn.

  • I will post the same quote every time Bono ever raises his little weasel face:

“One day, when it’s safe, when there’s no personal downside to calling a thing what it is, when it’s too late to hold anyone accountable, everyone will have always been against this.”

It always fascinates me that you'd prefer somebody who does nothing to help people than somebody like Bono who at least tries to use a public platform to do good.

What's it like being so bitter?

I actually prefer the many people who have been vocal about this issue from the start, and indeed often at great personal cost.

    When was the start?

What personal cost does anybody in Ireland face for supporting Palestine? Absolutely zero, right?

I'm sure any irish actors or musicians who've had plenty of work in the states have felt a financial hit for speaking up. Kneecap had tours cancelled as a result (I know they've probably gained popularity as a result too but still)

Liam Cunningham had a good deal of fame from Game Of Thrones, a lot of his work would rely on American production companies and that work seems to have mysteriously dried up since he got outspoken.

An Irish girl got sacked from her job at WIX for speaking up.

Staff at Hodges & Fidges got disciplinaries for wearing flag pins, (the bosses had no issue with Ukraine pins, just Palestine ones)

Germany tried to deport Irish protestors despite it being against EU law to do so

These are just off the top of my head

So Kneecap is the only actual example of an Irish celebrity facing consequences?

Do the other examples not bother you at all? The bookstore staff don't need to be celebs to matter, nor does the girl from WIX. As for Bono, he wouldn't have gotten his lovely medal from Biden if he'd spoken up sooner, I'm sure in his mind that would be a consequence even if it was dumb

She described Israel as a “terrorist state” and went on to say

“The root cause of this violence is a Zionist ideology which promotes an exclusivist state which denies Palestinian identity it is also an expansionary ideology, promoting illegal settlements on Palestinian land” That is considered antisemitism, and regardless of that it’s a pretty ridiculous thing to say when working for an Israeli company. If you called Germany a nazi state or something of that sort, while working for Bosch I am certain you would be sacked. She deserved to lose her job. Everything she said was complete BS and she can’t back it up

The WIX thing was idiotic, she worked for an Israeli company and made almost immediately after October 7th.

The Hodges Figgis one I've never even heard of so clearly wasn't a big deal.

You not hearing about it doesn't affect if it's a big deal or not I'll add the Tesco worker up north who got the suspended refusing to handle Israeli goods to the list while I'm at it.

Do you think calling Israel a terrorist state immediately after October 7th was a good thing to do?

What happened to the HF people?

Liam Cunningham, who I am quite fond of. I know him and he’s very sound but his beliefs are insane.. like, unreal. It dried up because he reposts and claims insane things about the Gaza war and the conflict with literally no evidence. You cannot post sensitive stuff like that ( without being able to back it up) with a Hollywood career.

Supporting Palestinians will get you a job here. Supporting both peoples or Israel, you may well never step outside of your house again. It’s madness that you can’t support peace or both

  • Selfish man , gets up every Saturday band eats the biggest bowl of alpen you've ever seen.

  • Mans in the running for the FIFA peace prize 🏆

That prize is so hot right now

  • Bono. Mr talk to Putin and get a pic along with every other scumbag in the world and act like he's the hero. Honestly its the worst in "liberal" western saviour culture. Its pretty easy to stand up against horrible stuff... Israel cut it out... absolute silence from the cunt. Will never be remembered as a charity worker. Fucked it.

Bono met Putin in, what, 2001?

Are you suggesting he should have known then what Putin would become?

It's also interesting that you're now angry with him for calling for the release of a Palestinian. Suggests your motives are vibes based.

  • Agree with him but still, Bono is a pox

The famous graffiti was right, and so are you.

  • This cunt sat down with war criminal Shimon Peres and called him "a gift to the world". Fuck off Bono, you attention seeking cunt.

  • Fuck up Bono you absolute bellend

  • Bongo finally found what he was looking for … His Voice …

  • Hang on, I thought we'd have tried the Bono solution by now.

  • ConfusedCelt calls for bono to pay his taxes

  • Bono suddenly concerned about human rights after the genocide is finished.

And ensuring his massive loan from an Israeli bank and other Israeli investments aren't at risk.

    Bono is a pox.

  • Why would they call him a leader? The only thing he led was militant/terror groups that murdered both Palestinians and Israelis. He led the Tanzim which attacks civilians for no reason and who used lost young women and teenaged boys to commit horrendous suicide bombings against Israeli Arabs and Jews across Israel during the Second Intifada. Not to mention the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade which he lead (and co-founded) during the second intifada - murdering Palestinian civilians who they “suspected of collaborating with the Jews” (with zero evidence), usually a tagline used for the justification of murdering someone they don’t like. The countless shootings towards civilians, more bus bombers and sniper attacks. The list is endless. He can stay in Ganot. If he cleans up his act and actually sticks to what he claims to believe about a two state solution maybe there can be some room for him to be released but that’s as good as dead after 7/10 because they realised what happens when you let those go who claim peace. He needs to prove it. Before he went behind bars he wanted to kill them, it’s hard to believe he’s completely changed his ideology.

  • Give the man a medal.

  • Bono could drop dead right now, and this sub would be annoyed at him for doing it

  • Broken clock, but he is right. As much of a windbag as he is, he has mostly correct geopolitics.

He stood by over the last two years in a horrible accereralted genocide and said nothing. Every link he had in the states would have been fucked if he had of mouthed of when it mattered

  • A third way liberal trying to drag himself back into relevance.

  • Too little, too late, ZUNT.

  • Man Bono

    Man 🙄
