Subscribed to the Irish Examiner last year and want to cancel the subscription. There is no option to do this on their website. Should be illegal to not be able to cancel a subscription online if you've subscribed online.
If I remember correctly the baseline idea was "it should be as easy to exit the contract as it was to enter the contract" kinda thing for online. Great initiative.
I actually had a woman fake losing the connection while I was trying to quit sky last week. Hello, hello? Yes I can hear you and I’m pretty sure you can hear me. Hello? Click brrrrrrr.
When I cancelled my Irish Times subscription, I had to google how to unsubscribe. It was done by email. It was a lot more hassle than signing up in the first place which put me off resubscribing.
I only had this conversation with someone who works for the IT over Xmas.
They also own the Irish Examiner.
If I ever do need to sign up for the IT I just use a temporary revolut card. I think you can also sign up through Apple and you keep the option to cancel it through Apple.
I had the same experience with The Business Post. You have to email them. So I emailed them, and then blocked any further payments to them on Revolut, and sure enough, a few weeks later they tried charging me anyway. They never responded to my email and only emailed once the payment failed. If you're on Revolut, just block them.
I think the rules are changing this year in the EU so they have to provide a cancellation option via app/website

Sky won’t like that

Sorry Sky, there'll be a lot of clicking.
Yep that's it. I thought it had already happened but it's this summer
Great. Do you have a link that confirms this?
You have to email them subscriptions@examiner.ie
That's fucking ridiculous!
Yep, it should be as easy to cancel as it is to subscribe - if you can subscribe with a single click, then you should be able to cancel the same way.
It's similar for the Irish Times.
Yet UK newspapers like The Guardian let you easily cancel your subscription through their app or website
Am I doing it wrong by blocking providers on my card when they don't allow for unsubscribing through their website/app?
Yes. Technically you haven't cancelled and still owe them at least for the last month.
Except no one is gonna ever follow up on it, most sub services I've done this to end up offering me free months of my sub for returning.
You have to email them but agreed you should be able to cancel directly online. The Sunday Times is the same.

Yup. Same here. Their scummy practice meant I never went back, rather than just a short break on my subscription.

But I just don’t sign up anymore.
Yeah. I definitely would have spent a lot more with them over the years if their policy wasn't so anti consumer.
Same here
Can't you cancel it in your bank app
You should be able to cancel anything easily as you can sign up to it.
Can you send them an email and cancel the direct debit?
Thought it was already illegal for cancelling a subscription to be more complicated than signing uo
Why are people subscribing to news?
Am I getting my news at a slower rate or something?
I would be more inclined if the subscription wasn't just mostly access to opinion pieces.
1 & 2 can be gotten around with an archive site.
Yes. But people pay for convenience
The examiner has some very good gaa podcast. That would be the only reason I would consider getting a subscription
Ah cool, aye id subscribe to a podcast if it was my thing
I genuinely thought people were subscribing for news
Email Odhran or Mike at hello@boards.ie
Do you feel like you got value for money. Pro tip use the archive

Just block the payment it should be illegal
You should subscribe to the Business Post like the rest of us. Or the IT.
