An artist was permanently banned from r/Art for mentioning prints in a comment (a clear rule violation, which the user admits and apologizes for). Instead of a standard ban, the mod deletes their post history and shifts quickly to hostile replies.

  • Ban Reason: User broke rule 9 by mentioning “prints” related to their artwork.
  • User Response: Strawbear apologizes, admits the mistake, and asks for the comment to be deleted.
  • Mod Response: Mod bans Strawbear, offers to delete all their posts (and deletes them!) , then replies: “I don’t even know who the fuck you are.” When Strawbear questions the escalation, the mod claims harassment and ends with a passive-aggressive message.
  • Final message: Strawbear calls out the overreaction as making the sub less welcoming.

Is this how rules should be enforced, or is r/Art’s mod simply confirming the stereotype?

UPDATE: Artist's account was also banned sitewide for 3 days as he was reported for harrasment..what a joke

  • "Your history has been removed." wow they think they're so fuckin powerful with that statement. Pathetic as hell.

Pretty sad that he can't do anything to refute it.

Maybe it'll all come back up once a new mod team for r/art is found (lol everyone quit)

The fact that they all quit is the most pathetic part, I genuinely can't imagine making an act of solidarity for someone who is so obviously an unstable person powertripping on the smallest power one can have.

Even that post has been removed by mods lol

    Must be the same mods

they linked to a comment. the post was removed because it was a lower quality version of this post

It's because most mods are like this and think there's nothing wrong with what they're doing, ever. Kinda like cops

    “New mod team”

It will be the same “person” with a different account. All major subreddits are moderated by the same group of “people”.

And nothing of value was lost.

I read through the rules of thatsub and they can't be described as anything but snobbish.

Honestly, I'm surprised he didn't get suspended from reddit for "Harrasment". Interacting with moderators on big subs is way too dangerous.

He did. He was full reddit banned, appealed, they upheld, said they trusted in the mod's decision.

I wonder if that will continue to stand. There are streamers posting videos on YouTube about the incident. Combine that with the fact that the mod team for a very large sub Reddit is gone, it's going to be difficult for them to ignore this, and it's very clear who was in the wrong.

Even if the admins pull out the "moderators are free to moderate their subs however they would like" line, the moderator was clearly abusing their ability to "report harassment". I think it's fair to say that filing a fraudulent harassment report is harassment.

I dunno. This website is like the least transparent its ever been, right?

Honestly, I think they probably could have weathered the storm, people move from one story to another.

Instead, they all resigned like children lol and the admins are having to do it now

I can't speak to the validity of this, but I saw someone make a comment explaining that they don't think all of the mods resigned. He said that he used to help out in the sub by programming one of their automoderator bots, so he had an alt that was parked in the mod team, and when everything went down, he got a notice that it was kicked out.

So now I'm wondering if one mod had a fit and shit-canned the whole team. It'll be interesting to see what happens to the sub in the coming day or so.

    Weew lad.

From subreddit to a global geopolitical situation, world is in some strife now lol

Reddit admins are literally brain dead, if humans are used at all. I got a harassment strike for quoting someone's comment harassing me and saying "no u." When I appealed it, they said "it was reviewed by a human and the strike stands."

My only regret if I get banned is that I won't be able to over-write my whole post history, which I feel has some amount useful hobby info, as a final "fuck you" to the site.

Reddit does, in fact, not have any humans manually analyzing requests. It’s all automated.

Mods play an important role for the admins and they perform it without being paid, so it wouldn't be crazy (even though it would be annoying) for the admins to just let them get away with it even when other folks wouldn't be able to do so

Unfortunately that sub isn't the only one with power hungry mods. I've had mad issues over the years with multiple subs where you get banned for basically having an opinion that's in contravention of the subs particular narrative.

Such as a certain sub for an encrypted messaging app that banned me for having a not perfect opinion of Apple, when Apple has nothing to do with the sub or app at all. (But was on topic for the particular conversation)

I even provided proof of my claim and that's when the ban went from 3 day to permanent.

Reddit is dogshit and they allow the mods to act how they do. Obligatory fuck u/spez

We need a subreddit JUST for this, to name and shame

Yeah I agree. But I bet reddit would delete it for their precious mods.

This literally happened before, there was one and it was banned

There was dozens of sub dedicated to calling out moderators, all ends up being systematically banned. Because not only are mods allowed to do anything they want without boundaries, we can’t make fun of it either

I’ve been banned from so many different subs for some stupid-ass reason I’m at a point where I wish some billionnaire buys Reddit and out an end to this

Yeah, Reddit is in a tough spot with the mods, but they put themselves there.

This site is ginormous, and it would cost a fortune to pay actual moderators to keep it from becoming full of illegal activity and spam, so they figured out a way to get people to do it for free. In order to make it work, they have to offer something to the moderators in return, so they give them hall-monitor powers over hundreds of thousands of Redditors.

The system eventually implodes because the majority of people who are interested in the role, are people who absolutely should not be given any power. You end up with situations like this one, where a solo butthurt dweeb can have a power trip followed by tantrum and pull the plug on a giant, popular sub that has been around since almost the infancy.

I'm sure they will resurrect the sub, and probably bring back some monitors who were kicked, and most likely nothing will change and we'll be back here again shortly.

This comment is two days old, I’m not a part of this sub, idk how I got here and I’m damn near a thanksgiving dinner-comatose right now BUT I’ve never seen a more apt description of police in my life; the ones that are interested in the job are often the exact ones you don’t want doing the job.

SubredditDrama tends to be the go to for that tbh

You can’t post drama you’re involved in there, and it’s tough for other people to post moderator nonsense that takes place over private messages. Plus one mod there just deletes basically anything that’s critical of mods anyway.

There used to be but it was banned.

    Gee… what a coincidence lol

There used to a be a sub just for that. The sub that subredditdrama came out of. Some mods managed to get the admins to neuter it to the max and then banned it.

I got max muted from messaging the mods of AmITheAngel for genuinely just asking a question. Not rudely or anything, just seeking information I had reason to believe they would have.

r/AmITheAngel is genuinely just one of the most mean-spirited and shitty subs around so that doesn’t surprise me

    It really is a cesspool.

During the campaign, I posted an AP article of Trump saying he wanted to make car payment interest tax deductible on r/politics . Only comment I added was "seems like a good idea"

Banned for "inciting something or other"

Got perms banned from Popculture subreddit for pointing out someone was likely posting for a PR company because they’d posted the same few articles about the same thing to a bunch of different subreddits and didn’t have a big post history.

I just asked, “Which PR firm do you work for?”

The mod made it all about harassment and making fun of other members. I was pointed out how dumb it was and that I’d just take my ban.

Kind of like when I randomly commented to a post in Joe Rogans subreddit which got me auto banned somewhere else and they were asking me to apologize, and I just told them to shove it for their weird practice.

You can’t convince me that mods of that sub aren’t being paid by celebrities or at the very least letting obvious PR posts go up. Like when the Blake lively stuff happened I noticed a lot of the anti blake posts digging up her past we’re all coming from one person. So it’s either someone with no life and an obsessive hatred of Blake or it was Baldonis team doing it

Oh yeah, I mean you look at what’s being posted and it’s primarily all PR stuff. Then you look and it’s the same-ish headline and article across 10+ subreddits. I wouldn’t be surprised either.

I got banned from a pop culture sub because I replied to a commenter with a Billboard article about album sales that went against a mods opinion. Like sorry for bringing facts you dislike to your attention? So stupid.

A while back I stopped expecting Reddit to be anything but steaming dogshit, and now I'm not disappointed anymore!

Reddit is dogshit and they allow the mods to act how they do.

Everyone says this, and it is true, but then everyone also sticks around and allows this hellsite to continue taking up all the oxygen in the room by feeding more inertia into it.

I used to post fairly often to r/tiktokcringe but was permanently banned a few months ago for posting something the mod said was political. No warning, just a permanent ban and a 30 day mute so I couldn't message the mods about it. I waited the 30 days and then asked why, and got a snarky answer and another 30 day mute. The post was like 10 days old when it was banned too.

Great way to encourage participation, ban the people regularly posting in the sub!

r/ADHD is also pretty terrible subreddit for anyone who actually got ADHD. It's ridiculous.

The dogfood sub comes to mind for me…

    Reddit mods so pathetic honestly

I once got reported and my account got blocked for 3 days because I wanted transparency. Mods sometimes can be so... ugh

i know they came when they hit enter on that one

    Reddit is turning on itself

    "Your history has been removed"

Google Chrome: Good Reddit mod: er, ok, annoying but I have everything elsewhere CIA: oh shit? Dr Strange: MJ doesn't recognise me God: -

    internet janitors

fok that mod ---- sideways .

who is that asshole mod , anyway ?

  • it's probably either melancholy_mallard or neodiogenes. they were the culprits last time and the messaging from the mod here is similar to the last time there was drama

Brother going down the modlist like every second mod on r/Art just seems like a horrible person to be around

One of them is a juggalo lol can't believe that shit is still going on

Most juggalos are pretty chill, as far as I know.

Yeah as long as you're also a juggalo

They're real loyal to anyone they perceive as "family" but they'll stab people over a quarter bottle of lean

    This isn't true at all.

Absolutely untrue in my experience, I find they’re generally quite positive people.

I can't take anybody with a private profile seriously. If you can't stand behind what you post on social media

Mods shouldn't be allowed to have private profiles.

Just use the search bar at the top of their profile. Sort by new. Poof! Post history revealed.

I don't get why sorting by new reveals hidden posts. It even works with the comments section on YouTube. 10 comments but you only see 1 or 2, you sort the comments by newest first and suddenly you get to see all 10.

Looks like they used redact to delete a bunch of their comments

With an obviously female avatar, I end up getting these weirdos that will go through my history if I say anything they don’t like and leave harassing comments. Very modlike behavior honestly, but as soon as I found out you could hide it I slammed that button. It’s really improved my Reddit experience.

    CompleteComfort1008 possibly too

Why did ALL 13 quit then? Why not just remove the mod?

He probably removed all of them then himself.

    That's exactly what happened

Lol at the end of the day a reddit mod is still a reddit mod

Wasn't it revealed a few years back that a very small elite of mods control a huge amount of this site and operated as a cartel?

I just noticed the poster of that is Ravens Dagger lol. They are a pretty famous book author for /r/ProgressionFantasy

That's way worse than the current one 💀

  • Immediately banned me when I posted a link to these screenshots, what a joke they are

Yep, I just barely got permabanned for this comment:

"Good art always reminds me of Strawbear..."

    "I mean strawberries, yeah, strawberries"

If I could include screenshots in this comment to show you, I would. But yeah, a little show of solidarity for u/Strawbear got me insta-permabanned from r/art. (And also a 28 day mute so I can't message any mods).

    Bitches

I vote that the new art sub becomes r/strawbear and we forget about the original art sub completely.

    I don't understand who's strawber?

Just a crime-less victim, move along.

Just kidding, that’s the redditor who this post is about. The one who was banned by the power-trippin mod in fart. I mean art.

They're trying to control the narrative

    Pussies do what pussies love

  • Yea this mod really ain’t shit. I can tell this is all they have going for themselves.

  • "reported for harassment" for being called power hungry 😭😭😭😭 these people will be forgotten the exact moment they pass away

They'll be forgotten before then, even.

    Who will be forgotten?

No they'll start burning the moment they pass away. And that will go on for all eternity. If they were smart maybe they would think about that, but they'd prefer to jack off for pleasure. This is gooning, it isn't moderation.

  • I’d to also share that they don’t even follow their other rule about like fanart and political cartoons- most posts are still up but an artist sharing they’ve got prints/commissions for support!? The audacity! Immediate ban! Also the “main character energy” and then proceeding to be like “do you want me to remove your entire history?” “History deleted you’re welcome.” Disgusting behavior.

  • Why i feel al the mods on the art sub are just like 5 guys on discord, screenshooting the conversations and feeling proud of being stupid

BECAUSE THEY ALL QUIT AT ONCE!

And for one guy that went ape and deleted someone entire posts.

Did they all quit or did one mod remove the rest?

  • Power hungry mods have destroyed this website. And some other things.

  • so who’s giving the main character there 🤡 insane

Fr people think they don't need the slightest shred of civility and get mad when their incivility is reciprocated from a position of power

Oh but he's high status, he's a Lord, he's a moderator, so of course such nobility that is so much higher above the lowly peasants would be the main character in any context.

  • Give them the slightest bit of power and they start moderating subreddits like an authoritarian regime

subreddit users would be delighted with the levels of transparency and accountability available in an authoritarian regime

  • Update: Artist's account was also site-banned for 3 days cause of the harrasment report.
    Here's the tweet

  • Reddit mods once again proving the stereotype correct 🤡

  • It's great that the guy went public because the mod team is scrambling to cover this up.

  • thank god i keep forgetting this website exists this is artist's personal hell 😭

  • I don’t even know who the fuck you are.

The idea they the user should know them

    Bro is not Thanos

Mod is only in it for his personal friends, its his own private little fiefdom, God forbid that somebody this Petty Lord "doesn't even know" should dare to interfere in "their own private domain". What a piece of human garbage. If I can see it, it's public. And you should be aware of that.

  • Moderating is 99.9% extremely boring and thankless work, these guys who are just desperate to feel any kind of authority and use it to stroke their egos give a bad name to all the actual decent mods out there who make forums bearable to use.

yeah i'd like to imagine the vast majority of them aren't this bad, but unfortunately the power hungry ones are always the loudest trying to swing their weight around

I moderate a couple discord servers, and my only true rule is "please don't make me have to do anything". I prefer to not do my job as much as possible.

  • Funny as fuck as they're currently on damage control and have locked every post for commenting and also seems like they've locked posting in general to their sub.

What's even better is the simple fact that whoever fucking mods that community won't abide by their own rules when it's clear as day the mod that was talking with Strawbear was breaking their own rules.

    8. Be respectful and stay on topic

    • We do not tolerate hate speech, abusive language, slapfights, rude jokes, crude humor, soapboxing, off-topic comments, offhand snark, creepy anything, and whatever else would not be appropriate for an art class.

Rules for Thee not for Mee type energy.

  • I love that while the mods are trying to cover it up moist critical made a video on it lmao. Always nice to see mods get exposed for the no life's they are

I literally came from that video. I think that’s the reason why the stopped new post from being posted there because it’s getting so big.

They locked down the sub 2 days ago, Charlie just posted the video, so it was already getting big before he jumped on the story (I say 2 days ago because the last post was from 2 days ago, they might have purged every post up to 2 days ago and locked everything down more recently, idk).

Anyway, some power-tripping sweat-lord is losing his precious moderation account as we speak.

And if I'm being honest, reading the rules and description of that subreddit reeks of toxicity and bad vibes. having "ban without warning" caps-locked in your description for the "art" forum is just sad...
(also "no promotion", wtf do they even mean, the simple act of an artist posting his art is self-promotion...)

  • Just came across this on Twitter and could not have rolled my eyes harder. I hope their 30 seconds of feeling high and mighty was worth the crash back into the reality of being a sad, parasitic internet loser.

  • how do people like this even sleep at night, this is mortifying

  • Hey guys, I was wondering if anybody knows anything about that mod and the subreddit. I'm sure as viral as this went people have reported that mod. Did something happen to him? Was OP unbanned?

RemindMe! Tomorrow "Did anything new happen?"

This is very common in r/Art, so nothing is gonna happen. They're gonna keep bannin.

    Something new happened

  • It's funny how little power it takes to corrupt some people.

TBF there is no evidence he wasn't like this before becoming a mod. Some people are shitty to begin with.

now imagine them with actual power, if even a crumb of it does that

I don't have to imagine unfortunately. Those kinds of people are in power right now.

  • Reddit mods are theeee worst.

  • Apparently the whole subreddit is now locked and modless And I'm enjoying harolding it to everywhere I can

Messaging the moderator team link still works.

User "modcodeofconduct" is the only mod there, they joined today which makes me think it's a main reddit devs account So yeah there is a mod but it seems to be a placeholder

    Edit: misspelled the name

  • Those dork moderators locked the whole subreddit

    They also just quit lmao.

  • Ironic that the post in question is called "Clear Boundaries".

  • I did notice that ebenthough you cannot c9mment on the subreddit, you can still message the moderator team.

I asked for a print of the subreddit rules.

  • I wish we could see the specific mod that sent those messages. Wouldn’t it be a shame to mass downvote all his content.

  • i got banned from a subreddit for using caps lock to show my excitement for a tv show i was watching, reddit mods are genuinely so pathetic.

  • As "Reddit moment" as it gets.

  • To be fair they ban everyone.

  • Must be the same mod as r/pics. The high horse these weirdos are on is insane.

The bigger and more generic the sub, the worse the mods.

  • now the entire sub is basically gone since all the mods left hahahhahha

  • Power tripping mods? Lmao I’ve had my fair share of them. Fuck em.

  • I'm not a regular on Reddit. But like a lot of others, I found my way here from Charlie. I'm confused, is there no one above these mods that can do something when they behave like this? This is unhinged. And it's cruel and unfair. And then when someone tries to talk to another mod in the same subject, they mute them for asking them to take a look? What is wrong with these people? Is this common amongst all subreddits? Like I've heard the stereotype of Reddit moderators being incels and miserable and it's the only power they have in their life. I thought that was a joke, but this is horrible and the cringe and secondhand embarrassment is palpable. I'm now seeing the screenshots of even wore stuff. This art submitted has done and said to other artists in the past. How did they get away with this?

  • charlie just made a video about this I hope something comes out of it

  • this mod is a bot

  • "I don't even know who the f*** you are. That's some major main character energy there."

...says the powertripping mod with a generic "Moderator" tag instead of a username.

  • Fuck this make a shame sub thread for this as a designer I always get my posts deleted it’s annoying everyone justs want to showcase their craft buts these power hungry people ruin it

You’re not the cops your not a manager managing people at xyz at a company you’re definitely not the gov t your a goddman reddit mod don’t take it that seriously come on now

  • AND REPORTED FOR HARRASMMENT . AND ADMIN Banned him site wide for 3 days

  • I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I'll never understand how spaces built on the nigh-continuous output of artists begrudge those same artists the income needed to create more things.

Have rules in place so people don't spam the subreddit: sure.

But nuking someone's account over the word "print"? Really?

  • I m so not suprised artist got banned from reddit aswell. This site is a bad joke

  • I was banned and muted twice in another sub reddit for just asking why my post got removed. The power hunger is real

  • i could see a jannies head explode out of the corner of my eye and i would be completely unfazed

  • Mod was probably fingering his asshole during that conversation

  • Man the mod be crashing his ass out

  • When the only wins in life you can get are reddit powertrips, you hodl on to that feeling as long as you can.

Everyone is laughing at you mod, and I know full well you're reading this post and the comments, because it's the only thing you got going in your sad life.

  • Strawbear apologizes, admits the mistake,

Strawbear didn't immediatly apologize and admit mistake, he was (understandebly) very confrontational and mocking at first. That probably hurt the Mods fragile ego and escalated things further. Though I'd wager the power tripping mod wouldn't have changed their minds even if Strawbear was super polite.

  • Your history has been removed.

    You’re welcome.

Dude, I guarantee OOP’s got these posted in about 15 different places other than Reddit.

What a clown that mod is 🤡

  • What a fucking troll

  • Reddit is a great platform, but we have all witnessed asshole power hungry mods. Actually, being power hungry seems to be a quality shared by most mods.

So yeah I fear that long-term Reddit will lose value if mod teams are left unchecked.

I say this so that the gods guiding Reddit, i.e. the shareholders, will probably intervene. Shitty mod teams will make people go away, you hear me? Less ka-chink for you.

  • Why "print" Is self promoting?

  • Reddit ban messages mention that there is no automation involved, but it very clearly is not human reviewed, at least not by a respectable human. If you're reported, you're banned

  • "Your history has been removed. You're welcome."

I can smell his bedroom through my screen. Yuck.

  • Reddit mods are shit.
