Thanks for sharing this OP… A fine example of your contractor displaying the Japanese concept of “KODAWARI”
i.e. attention to detail/ high standards of excellence (even if nobody else is watching)
… a “TL;DR” explanation , via Google: “Kodawari (こだわり) is a Japanese concept meaning an uncompromising, passionate, and obsessive pursuit of perfection, quality, or craftsmanship, focusing on meticulous detail and personal dedication rather than just profit or praise, evident in everything from artisanal crafts and cuisine (like Jiro's sushi or perfect ramen) to daily life, reflecting a deep pride and commitment to doing things the "right" way. It's a philosophy of continuous improvement, where even small details are honed to achieve an exceptional outcome, often seen in Japanese chefs, baristas, and artisans. “
I agree. The additional wallpaper used up by the vent would make the image not match up. The only way around it would be to re-print exactly the image you needed for use only with the vent.
They can't tell shit, what he's talking about looks like normal jpeg compression artifacts from a picture that's probably been poorly resized and recompressed more times than we have fingers. Most of the videos people on here are claiming AI are just poorly compressed as well.
I'm seriously tempted to post some clips from old YouTube videos from like 10 or so years ago just to see how many people think they're AI because of the compression artifacts.
You can tell be cause the white/non painted nuts holding it to the wall.
No shot AI does that detail. It would be perfect/smooth everywhere, wouldn’t even be a bolt there.
No kidding. What a tone deaf response. Would OP have posted a pic of a sealed over vent thinking it's fantastic? Jfc you don't need 3 decades of decorating experience to know closed off = bad.
Looks continuous, but actually they took off the vent and covered it with a separate piece that they cut and measured. It is a bigger piece than if we imagine just stretching the wallpaper across that section flat. The giveaway, if you have a hard time noticing, is the top right section of the vent where the flower meets the wall.
I'm retail management and last year trained a teenager who at some point told me she was "low-key out of quarters". I had to ask her what the fuck that meant and if she was just "out of quarters" and she said she didn't know and yes.
Obviously I know what low-key means (or used to before these clowns started using it as a modifier that means absolutely nothing in a sentence).
ok, so I see a lot of people commenting about ventilation, but it looks like a vinyl sticker/wrap to me with holes cut for the grate. is there anything I'm missing? it's definitely well done, and I dig it.
also can we talk about the 5¢ home depot screws they used to secure it?
I have that exact wallpaper, but it's been ripped and is falling off the wall. Im not the one who bought it. Can you tell me what the producers name and item number so i can get some more?
Older appliances are what we call "open flue" where the air they need to burn is taken from the room the appliance is in. If the room isn't ventilated correctly it can lead to some very nasty results, from the appliance simply not firing all the way to an appliance burning all the available oxygen in the room and then filling it with carbon monoxide, which as I'm sure you know is a very dangerous thing.
I've had to turn off plenty of boilers for blocked vents, it's what we call an "immediately dangerous" situation and an engineer risks losing their ticket or even imprisonment if missing such a problem results in loss of consciousness or death.
Yep, but in the eyes of many gas engineers, that vent has been tampered with and they may not like it, which was exactly my first point.
Vents for gas appliances have stamped into them their free area in cm2, if that's not visible an engineer may have an issue.
It's also important to note that as open flue appliances are getting rarer, and more and more engineers don't see many of them, lots of engineers will simply cover their own arse and turn something off instead of taking what they perceive to be risk.
Would I take issue with it? No, but that's because I have lots of experience with older appliances, and am now employed as an assessor of engineers competence, so my knowledge is about as good as it can be with this kinda stuff (not to sound like a knobhead but it is my job to know these things), I'm just saying some lads might panic and turn that off. Was merely forewarning OP of that possibility.
If it's for a gas boiler, blocking that vent can result in the flue not pulling properly and the appliance spewing carbon monoxide into the room, people die because of this. So yea it can affect stuff.
That room just looks like it's in the UK to me, with the door spring and that
Those door springs are all over in the US, it could be any house I've lived in, in California, Texas, Maryland... What makes you think they don't exist here? You think we just slam our doorknobs into the wall?
There's no need to get uppity, I was simply mentioning that if that vent exists to supply air to a gas appliance, that tampering with it could be dangerous. I'm not here to argue home decor with yanks, sorry.
Nobody is getting uppity but you, it seems. Nobody's "arguing" either, you just saw a boringly common item and assumed that meant it was the UK for some reason.
You'd throw shit my way if I saw a television and assumed that meant it was an American house.
Sorry, guys, we have to all be ultra serious all the time lest the super sensitive u/Upstairs_Sandwich_18 gets offended by it, he could take your jest to heart and start a reddit argument to deal with it and make himself feel better.
Getting back to the original point, your absolute confidence that blocking a vent or tampering with it would be absolutely no problem at all, and that it must be for a HVAC system, screamed to me that you just assumed this was the US (much like me assuming the door thing meant it must be the UK) and that you could be giving dangerous advice to someone.
In the last week I've seen enough "experts" giving people deadly bullshit advice about gas to last a lifetime. As someone who's career revolves around gas safety I have obviously become easily triggered...
I knew a pair of identical twins who could probably do that. They were mirrored twins, one left handed and the other right. They did high end work and were meticulous.
Looks great!
Damn fine job
IKR

What a beautiful philosophy, we could do with more of that in the world

I hate that we can’t really tell anymore. I want to believe this is real (ie amazing work/craftsmanship), but who knows? 🤷♂️
Actuslly u can tell by this one zoom in and look at the white spots
What does that mean? You can tell it’s AI or that it’s real?
They can't tell shit, what he's talking about looks like normal jpeg compression artifacts from a picture that's probably been poorly resized and recompressed more times than we have fingers. Most of the videos people on here are claiming AI are just poorly compressed as well.

Keep that phone number and spread the word
Yeah, name and shame them. /s
Looks grate.
As a decorator of well over 30 years I'm suitably impressed. Theres still access as they have obviously removed the vent to paper it.
Extremely well done!!
Y- Yeah… obviously.. What fool would think they just wallpapered over the vent
Definitely not me. I certainly didn’t only check when friendly_external pointed it out. Definitely
Youre so brave!
You can see the wallpaper on the wall going behind the panel. And also the screws are covered!
The screws aren't covered, they're the two white buds on the branches at the middle level of the grate
No kidding. What a tone deaf response. Would OP have posted a pic of a sealed over vent thinking it's fantastic? Jfc you don't need 3 decades of decorating experience to know closed off = bad.
They could have like, cut out the holes after wallpapering over the vent. Bam. Not sealed
I think after 30 years, you have also gained the right to call yourself a wallpaper installer rather than a decorator
It's it not plausible that they wallpapered over it and cut out the slits, screws, and perimeter?
No, the paper would run out of true to the pattern. They've taken a pattern match off the roll and covered the vent separately.
Yea no shit Sherlock
Wow that's really smart, it's borderline camouflaged now
You should leave a banging review

That's amazing work. Also, nice wallpaper choice.
Wow. Skilled worker!
Looks awesome!
I can't even put wallpaper on a flat surface.
Literally same
This is just gorgeous, this person clearly loves their job and takes pride in it. What a work of art
Perfection. 👏🏼
This is the fingerprint of someone who takes pride in their work
Is he single
Then they clean the ducts and put the grate back on upside-down
Eeeee a handyman I had did that with a wallpapered switch plate. He didn't see the problem, I gave up arguing, so I flipped it after he left.
I’m lowkey legit impressed.
is it still lowkey if you openly and publicly express it?
That was a low key a proverbial kill shot
How does that differ from a higher-key illegit impressed?
It's the same, but he can't hit the high notes
I’m lowkey straight up legit impressed af frfr no cap
I'm retail management and last year trained a teenager who at some point told me she was "low-key out of quarters". I had to ask her what the fuck that meant and if she was just "out of quarters" and she said she didn't know and yes.

On god I get lowkey shook when people say that bruh. Bussin
That go hard top
6-7 lol
Wow!
I want your installer's name and contact info.
cooool!
You really should share the wallpaperer’s business name ;)
Paid by the hour I’m guessing.
That's impressive as hell.
Everything about this from the wall paper to the craftsmanship makes me smile.
In a good way, or a bad way?
Damn that's a clean installation.
Harder to do than it look
Good job!
Holy crap, whatever you're paying that guy , it's not enough. That is ART.
Those are weirdly shaped vents or some shenanigans are going on.
Dang they deserve a bonus, that looks awesome
Looks like something from White Lotus!
ok, so I see a lot of people commenting about ventilation, but it looks like a vinyl sticker/wrap to me with holes cut for the grate. is there anything I'm missing? it's definitely well done, and I dig it.
also can we talk about the 5¢ home depot screws they used to secure it?
The screws that were already there are the screws that will be used.
this guy flips.
Dude must have the patience of a monk.
Actually…
Is he okay? 🙏
Looks like Oscar Wilde's bedroom wallpaper at L'Hotel in Paris ;) (Except green and gold.)
That would take lots of patience
Nice wallpaper 👍
He also left the screws out so it can be opened, wow
If this is a complaint…? It looks perfect and that wallpaper is beautiful!! Share w everyone who the installer was so they get more jobs!
I have that exact wallpaper, but it's been ripped and is falling off the wall. Im not the one who bought it. Can you tell me what the producers name and item number so i can get some more?
Would've loved to see a video of how...
Next level wall papering and I hate wallpaper.
Is this wallpaper from Rifle Paper Co.? It's so beautiful and so well applied.
https://riflepaperco.com/products/peacock-wallpaper-black?srsltid=AfmBOoqTtM1fTGwYKJjPipFa8ljFzYqxccgtYq7_0Id9WHbjdbQL138H
yes
Lovely, thanks!
There’s such a thing as a Wallpaper installer? We always did it ourselves. It was always crooked.
Soon, all of China will be his.
Give that person a huge bonus and a raise
Nice!!
Impressive
That looks really cool, but if it's a vent for a gas or oil appliance your boiler man might not like it.
what problems might it cause?
None he just hates birds

I'm a gas safe trainer and assessor for context.
yeah but the openings on this vent are clearly left open (you ca see on the photo that they cut the paper on the openings)
Yep, but in the eyes of many gas engineers, that vent has been tampered with and they may not like it, which was exactly my first point.

Looks like an intake vent for HVAC, one of many around the house. It won't affect a thing.
If it's for a gas boiler, blocking that vent can result in the flue not pulling properly and the appliance spewing carbon monoxide into the room, people die because of this. So yea it can affect stuff.

"you think we just slam our doorknobs into the wall?"
My mother would say that's uppity
Good thing you're not your mother, eh?
Sorry, guys, we have to all be ultra serious all the time lest the super sensitive u/Upstairs_Sandwich_18 gets offended by it, he could take your jest to heart and start a reddit argument to deal with it and make himself feel better.
Right...

Boy he's really mad guys.
It's wallpaper, the vent very clearly isn't blocked, thank you for trying.
Is this for providing air to the room? Aren't those vents usually in the ceiling?
This is likely for a heater duct.
This one with the paper on it is an air return vs the supply side vents.
are the vents individually papered so it still works, or no...?
This looks awesome but purely out of curiosity is this a fire risk at all?
Cut it
This is ok, but not interesting as fuck
I bet you couldn't do it
It is true. I make money with my brain and I can only use my hands to break things. Still not interesting as fuck - but it is interesting.
Is the installer AI?
No
Well, definitely super human. Great job.
I knew a pair of identical twins who could probably do that. They were mirrored twins, one left handed and the other right. They did high end work and were meticulous.
Might want to uncover that…
why?
Vents tend to be there for a reason. Say of a fire place is over a certain KW they need more ventilation, for safety
The openings aren't covered if that's what verbs are.
I meant vents. My bad!
Also it looks like they are to me. I could be wrong though. Can’t imagine they’d have cut holes in them
Gross. I guess you could've answered that without the snark about verbs. Seems sort of silly, if you know what I mean.

And??
[deleted]
Ok I’ll bite—who?
Just do it.

Is it covered entirely? Cause if so that ain't good
No.
Then it's a standout job
Is there airflow?
My mom, an absolute wallpaper fanatic for most of her adult life, would have LOVED that part.
