I’m not sure it ever had juice. It’s one of those genres were the moment it became it’s own thing, it developed it’s tropes and decided never to deviate from them.
There are great ones from back in the day, before they properly codified as a genre, like Now and Then, Here and There, or Any of the historical Isekai like Inu-Yasha. But now it’s like the whole genre exists as a low-ethics, kill whoever you want, power fantasy with unexplained video game mechanics.
It’s at the point where even the lead characters are genre aware. Like, if your characters are saying, “Oh, if’s like an Isekai, I wonder when I get my magic!” that should be considered really bad writing.
All those silly shows where MC is OP, loved by everyone, have their own harem.. etc.. that's like 95% of shows. Really bad writing/animation and seems to be just some nonesense fan service power fantasy crap.
But there are also plenty of gems. For example mushoku tensei(by a long shot the best imo), re:zero, konosuba.
Kakegurui, the student council is running a school wide debt trap based gambling class-system operation and is part of an elite that is secretly controlling all of Japanese business and politics.
Our protagonist, a compulsive gambler takes them down because it means she get’s to play high-stakes games of chance against people who cheat.
The anime is great, the live adaptation is fun, the Netflix live adaptation is an abomination.
I've never seen an anime with a student council as a villain either. Closest I've seen was Fairy Tail where one villain infiltrated the country's governmental council and used his position there to get away with ill plans. Was just an arc's villain though, not that significant
I lived in Japan for about eight years in the 90s and the guy in question is the lead singer of kind of like Japanese kiss. But his first name is Demon.
Works closely with the Hiroshima Prefectural government promoting regular cancer screenings and doing general cancer awareness campaigns for more than a decade now. Last year he himself was diagnosed with cancer, but because he actually does the things he recommends people do during these campaigns (regular screenings, having a GP who can keep an eye on your results over a long period of time) it was discovered and treated early with no complications. He even used the press release about his illness to reiterate the importance of early cancer discovery.
Yeah it’s all old dudes if I recognize em. Also yes, not that hard to be better than Kiss. Most of the Japanese music I listen to is like 70s rock and mid to late 90s Indies.
Funny that the most influential content from japan that sells overseas is anime, but they got 3 singers and a rapper in there instead, only 1 guy from animation.
This is what sort of made KPop more mainstream in the West and it was partially to make fun of - there's very little understanding of the social commentary and social parody in that music.
Also, Kpop and in extension Korean popular media has been popular in a lot of places before Gangnam style.
I know this is probably a tongue in cheek comment but thought I should add some context for people that wouldn't know any better
Yes cultural exports like Anime, Manga, Music. I'm not sure what the specific purpose of the meeting was, but Japan is very intentional and aware of it's cultural exports, things like Anime are Soft-Power for Japan (the way Hollywood movies are soft-power for America, or K-Pop for South Korea)
I..don’t..I don’t know how to respond about the visuals here 😭but I hope they talked about how desperately we (me) need more subtitled Gaki no Tsukai content churning.
From Right to left: Japanese Donald Trump, A Gundam's Villian, Creator of Elden Ring, Cart Titan, Female Dojo Master, Male Dojo Master, Hobo Chief form Yakuza game.
Is Japanese culture really that diverse nowadays? It's a bit hard to accept. Are you sure this can represent the mainstream culture within Japan today?
Those "Converse's" are amazing. They're obviously not chucks but something similar and maybe more comfortable, i think. Steel toed??? Whatever, I just want them.
this is such a weird group, i agree with murakami being there but kocchi no kento??????? out of all people?? and awich, her songs are barely recognized abroad, yuki chiba or creepynuts would have been better
get kojima, megan thee stallion, one of those street interview people, and one piece oda then the ppl overseas will start listening. seriously bizarre picks and it shows
Isn’t Awich the only one who actively works in an international setting with her music.
But I am a bit ignorant about the others involvement within the international space.
I feel like she could have grouped up better people that have a greater understanding of international entertainment
I'm a bit disappointed, having zoomed on second to the left oh why bother you know exactly who I zoomed on to discover half the headpiece was actually the back wall.
The two old guys will take off their shirts and be absolutely shredded underneath. Just ungodly masses of muscle.
And they’ll say shit like “Ho ho. . . You youngsters sure are energetic. Looks like I’ll have to get serious.”

Looks more like how they always portray the "presidents" of school clubs in anime/mangas.
Well, now we know what benefits of being a club president leads to.
Man, I miss the days when the student council was the big bad/antagonists now its mostly isekai garbage
Some gems here nd there but they are mostly garbage
At least the reincarnation in the same fantasy world mangas/manhua/manwas are pretty good
EDIT: but they
"Man, I miss the days when the student council was the big bad/antagonists now its mostly isekai garbage"
Ok so I checked, there has been 25 isekai anime shows this year. That's hardly "most" shows
It’s an overwhelming majority of the total anime output man. 25 isekais is insanity, there’s no fucking juice left in that fruit
I’m not sure it ever had juice. It’s one of those genres were the moment it became it’s own thing, it developed it’s tropes and decided never to deviate from them.

There's just a lot of trash in that genre.

What anime have the studen council as the bad guys ? Most of the time they are the good guys or basically the MC and his group

Kill la Kill
The first arc of Revolutionary Girl Utena revolves around her fighting the student council members one by one
Username absolutely checks out
Food Wars comes to mind, though technically most of them are more antagonists/rivals than true villains
Ultimately, the panel will devolve into a fighting tournament and each character’s unique powers will be tested in the ring
Now you know why they look like that in anime. Because that's how they look in real life.
They look like all the Yugioh adult protagonists in one room
when your modded character is in a cutscene.
I lived in Japan for about eight years in the 90s and the guy in question is the lead singer of kind of like Japanese kiss. But his first name is Demon.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demon_Kakka
Bro’s full name is “demon shit”.
That's fucking Metal.
Are you French? XD Try to say Goku's Saiyan name?
Actually a pretty cool dude.

Kickass vocalist as well, even in his 60s.
Not only way better than Kiss (and different), but also a pretty smart guy. Still, I don't believe the current times asked for this.
Yeah it’s all old dudes if I recognize em. Also yes, not that hard to be better than Kiss. Most of the Japanese music I listen to is like 70s rock and mid to late 90s Indies.
Hell yea.
lmao
Gonna have to defeat them one by one to avenge my family.
isnt that the dude that made kanye west graduation artwork
Takashi Murakami
It is
Is that Mamoru Oshii, the guy who did Ghost In The Shell anime movie?
They put him in Death Stranding 2 also https://youtube.com/shorts/biefaRkAvwI?si=rzbMjQ58z6Pn2S32
That’s him alright.
from left to right, anime roles:
Only in there for the money
Plans to usurp and become new leader
Noble one
Current leader about to get backstabbed
Daughter that inherited powerful position
Older one with more outdated fighting style but more experience
The one that is more powerful than others but never gets serious
Tetsuya Komuro (67) singer/producer
Demon Kakka (63) singer, among many other things
Kocci No kento (29) singer
- prime minister Sanae Takaichi-
Awich (39) rapper
Takashi Murakami (63) sculptor and painter
Mamoru Oshii (74) writer and director - the only one I know (go watch Angel's Egg)
I'm more shocked at the ages than the appearances.
Funny that the most influential content from japan that sells overseas is anime, but they got 3 singers and a rapper in there instead, only 1 guy from animation.
The fuck is the person on the left wearing? 😂
It's His Excellency Demon, one of the more prominent musicians / celebrities in Japan.
And here I thought celebrities looking stupid was an American thing 😂
Despite the costume, he's a pretty calm and serious guy. He appears on morning news programs to comment on current events.
Interesting
‘Good morning, all you viewers at home, and we will be having another day of light rain but no hellfire… yet.’
He grew up in the USA. So, in a way, it is a stater thing.
Bros drip is immaculate, y'all just jelly haters
lol Demon Kakka
that is what Korea did, now looks what has happened
This is what sort of made KPop more mainstream in the West and it was partially to make fun of - there's very little understanding of the social commentary and social parody in that music.
Also, Kpop and in extension Korean popular media has been popular in a lot of places before Gangnam style.
I know this is probably a tongue in cheek comment but thought I should add some context for people that wouldn't know any better
I didn't know that was an option
An orgy? No, thanks. If I wanted to disappoint so many people at the same time, already have my family
Modern Yotei Six lmao
Guy on the second left is a JoJo villain.
the enemy stand user cluld be anyone
Also reminded me of Emporio Ivankov from One Piece
Japan is such a serious country, and then this. Which one is it guys? Are y’all clowns? Or in between? Hybrid maybe?
The new pm is a clown lol
The organisation 13
This is a lineup of villains for the next season of one punch man.
Guy 2nd from the left is Emperor Colonel Mime he gets to battle Atomic Samurai
And I love he's just looking up in the air like he's high as hell.
Next season…?
This is the most liberal looking group put together by a radical conservative I’ve ever seen.
new stable with awesome entrance music
I recognize Awich and Takashi Murakami and that’s it. So I’m guessing these people are all famous through art, music, or movies somehow
Is that the lead singer from Dir En Grey?!
No tattoos though
Green haired guy is singer Kocchi no Kento
Who is that woman on the right? Asking for a friend 🙋
That is a man in a yellow scarf.
Poor guy thought he was going to stand out with that scarf choice. How wrong he was.
Awich
The second from the left understands the rules. There is power in this one.
デーモン閣下と子供番組の歌つくってるメガネの人しかわからん
Can this weird panel tighten the fk up about the almost straight up CP in a lot of media particularly anime and some mangakas need to be put in JAIL
The council of villain
What does that even mean? "Japanese content overseas"? Japanese cultural exports, eg anime?
Edit: and who are those people, why is Hayao Miyazaki not one of them?
Yes cultural exports like Anime, Manga, Music. I'm not sure what the specific purpose of the meeting was, but Japan is very intentional and aware of it's cultural exports, things like Anime are Soft-Power for Japan (the way Hollywood movies are soft-power for America, or K-Pop for South Korea)
Anime and manga mostly. Pretty sure it's about piracy. And they'll never be able to eliminate it.
Anime definitely has the most fortified, entrenched, and dedicated piracy community lmao good luck with that
I’m here for the Empire Of The Sun look
Dammit..I knew I should have checked further down! :-)
Looking like Gorosei from One Piece
Japan always so random
One Punch Man season 3 was so bad they had to do this XD
Another photo op
The dude on the far right with the white beanie giving master Roshi energy.
It was a casual Friday.
What anime is this?
That woman 3rd from the right is fine
Only in Japan...
Looks like characters in a game like mortal combat or something similar.
Dont know why but its giving me Doflamingo crew vibes
second one is the Stand User
This is how the adults in Battle Royale should have dressed. These look like Hunger Games people.
I..don’t..I don’t know how to respond about the visuals here 😭but I hope they talked about how desperately we (me) need more subtitled Gaki no Tsukai content churning.
Is that Murakami on the right? Dude next to him gotta be from Kojima, Sony or something. That drip is 🔥
I’m gonna be so real they look like a kamen rider evil organization 💀
This looks like a cast of characters from the Yakuza games.
The Justice League has been super quiet since this post was made… I’m just saying.
From Right to left: Japanese Donald Trump, A Gundam's Villian, Creator of Elden Ring, Cart Titan, Female Dojo Master, Male Dojo Master, Hobo Chief form Yakuza game.
When you give the power to idiots...
Can’t ever take Japan serious lmao
Idk what's going on with second from the left, but i like their vibe
🤣
Please at least explain the second person from the left.
welcome to the weeb committee
Do you have to defeat all bosses to get PR?
lol
that like Takashi Murakami
Genuine question, what do they mean by Japanese content overseas? Also what was the goal of this meeting?
"The stand user could be anyone in here!!"
Girl on the right is such a cutie
Surprised Yoshiki isn’t there.
The Stand User could be anyone!
Woah those members of villainess so cool, that Japan PM is really good at recruiting members like that 🤩
The middle right person is Takashi Murakami. He’s an amazing artist.
Not sure what they're discussing but please more of the good stuff
It looks like the school council from the anime Witch Watch 🤣.
Is that renowned artist Takashi Murakami!?
A bunch of clowns lol
They might have something worth listening to. I have a feeling this group arent afraid to give unique individual opinions.
The council has decided your fate.
Misfit villains? 🤣
They look so badass
Find the MC.
[removed]
The girl on the right doesn’t wanna be there
Stereotypical anime villain group
[removed]
I will brook no slander of Demon Kogure.
The second guy on the left will kill the leader and turn out to be evil
Where is the mc when you need him.
From left ・Tetsuya Komuro ・Demon Kakka ・Kocchi no Kento ・Sanae Takaichi ・Awich ・Takashi Murakami ・Mamoru Oshii
Is Japanese culture really that diverse nowadays? It's a bit hard to accept. Are you sure this can represent the mainstream culture within Japan today?
I like hobo chic dude
The guy with the crown understood the assignment.
Why is the dude from Empire of the sun there?
Wasn't the guy on the left in Empire of the Sun?
Hashirama, second to the left from the PM
Is this what Japanese Avengers be like
Oy, Demon Kogure! Great guy!
Does anime reflect this reality, or is it responsible?
Haha
Where are hentai and tentacule porn creators they have like 50% of the overseas content
r/TheSquadOnPoint
FFXIV dungeon crew low levels.
Akatsuki assemble
Wow that’s the evil genius “Sad Scarf” good get!
Those "Converse's" are amazing. They're obviously not chucks but something similar and maybe more comfortable, i think. Steel toed??? Whatever, I just want them.
All of them look weird, but let’s not pretend there isn’t a proper elephant in the room.
Ugh, can't put a picture in the comments...
Someone put a gif of Gorosei in their usual room here, please.
Japan isn't a real place
Names please
this is such a weird group, i agree with murakami being there but kocchi no kento??????? out of all people?? and awich, her songs are barely recognized abroad, yuki chiba or creepynuts would have been better
get kojima, megan thee stallion, one of those street interview people, and one piece oda then the ppl overseas will start listening. seriously bizarre picks and it shows
Full on saints row cut scene 💀
Friends, this legal resolution looks like the work of an enemy stand.
Still more respectable than that Vanity Fair shoot.
Villains who want to make it harder to preserve good anime on the web for a long time 🥀🥀🥀🥀
Straight out of Yakuza / Like a Dragon
they each have their own unique power.
This is so anima coded
No seriously, what the fuck is the purple dude wearing and why?
I assume the people saying whatever they want have solid content from their own country to back it up.
Otherwise, it just comes off as jealousy.
One Piece admirals be like:
Where can I watch this anime?
Hai Yorokonde
Has 🧃signature all over it
The Akatsuki is assembled!
that pm woman needs to know her place as trumps’ lapdog and stop terrorizing other east asian countries.
The stand user COULD BE ANYONE.
Wait.
The stand user could be anyone.
who is second from left lol
Wtf does the PM thinking she is Imu-sama or something?
Don't start the meeting without my boy Yoko Taro!
Tetsuya Komuro is one of the greatest composers of the world.
Japan is not real
Live action final fantasy is lit
I did not know that Demon Kogure will attach any importance on human 's world...
Holy smokes! It looks like a government comprised of people that the good voters actually wanted..
The stand user could be anyone
The stand user:
This meeting was produced by Marvel Studios.
Isn’t Awich the only one who actively works in an international setting with her music. But I am a bit ignorant about the others involvement within the international space.
I feel like she could have grouped up better people that have a greater understanding of international entertainment
My favourite shounen
I feel like they could have invited the following to the panel:
the guy with mask is a big humor star on tv
I'm a bit disappointed, having zoomed on second to the left oh why bother you know exactly who I zoomed on to discover half the headpiece was actually the back wall.
Sad that Dr Evil wasn't invited to the super villain summit 😂
The two old guys will take off their shirts and be absolutely shredded underneath. Just ungodly masses of muscle. And they’ll say shit like “Ho ho. . . You youngsters sure are energetic. Looks like I’ll have to get serious.”
What the heck is with the costumes and garb? 😆
What’s with the weird cosplays and the green hair shtick?
The guy second from the right is Murakami takashi. His art is famous around the world. Im sure you’ve seen it.
Right!
Correct!
the stand user could be anyone, they said
The stand user could be anyone.
