Actually yes that far. They are actually safer falling from a high height than a short height because it gives them time to adjust mid air to land on their feet and splay out to distribute the forces more evenly.
My cat broke his leg falling off my lap. About a year later, he fell out the 3rd floor window onto the driveway while horsing around and was gone for 8 days. No injuries upon his return.
Also, they then relax their muscles and their loose skin stretches a bit to slow their falling speed and then cats have a non-lethal(or at least less-lethal) terminal velocity! I don't know actually if this fall is high enough for that?
So yes at that point cats can fall even from a plane and survive.
I don’t know what you read but it’s pure horseshit. We have all seen cats fall short distances ip to ceiling height( 8-10ft) and most times they do do it unscathed, although dependent on age, weight, and what they’re landing on, injuries or even death can and does happen. But falling from a second story building, NO, that cats got about a 20% survival rate and a 0% chance of not being injured. I’ve seen it happen a few times. From what I’ve witnessed, cats don’t always get to use all their nine lives.
I cant lie I’ve had to catch my cats from less serious heights and that shit really hurts. That cat would open someone’s scalp, I can’t even imagine that trauma if this went the other way
Some people just have involuntary ticks when in stressful situations. I sigh A LOT when I get the tiniest bit exasperated or stressed. I don’t even realize i do it most of the time.
She is in a stressful situation where people should be aware of what is happening and screaming does actually help with getting people’s attention, even though She probably isn’t actively thinking that.
I’m more interested in the people getting annoyed at her instead of thinking about why she might be screaming. If I cared more, I would be looking into the science of involuntary ticks during stressful situations instead of getting angry at internet videos
It sounds more like you do this yourself, and are now trying to reason for yourself. It really aint that deep anyway. Be it ticks, psychological response or just attention seeking; its annoying either way.
Oh no not from that height. Even if it landed on it's feet, it's muscles and bones would have to meet huge force. Imagine the muscle and bone strain. It would certainly get injured. Way less than most other animals, but still hurt
It's a similar story with cats, except there's a weird middle point where they don't survive.
Basically low height is ok for obvious reasons, and high height is ok because they reach terminal velocity, relax and spread their limbs into an almost parachute. But there's a point in-between where they don't reach terminal velocity and don't relax and have a much lower chance if survival.
Source for this? Because it sounds like a "cat survived free fall"-exception situation. Of which there are several, I'm sure, but landing with terminal velocity on your stomach sounds like internal injuries (including brain damage) for any animal above 1kg/2 pounds
Did you mean to just send me to google? Because if so, it's just sad that youcan't hold yourself to a "I don't know for sure" or "I can't find a source right now".
From a quick googling, there seem to be no clear evidence for this claim. One study that hypothesised such a claim admitted that since they only included cats that were admitted to veterenary care, there was underlying bias
Additive funfact to this:
Behaviourally, small rodents generally have bad vision so when they come up on any edge, they just hang by their back feet and if they can't reach anything, they just let go.
My hamster fell two stories when he escaped and couldn't care less. Just landed splay legged and probably saw it as extremely effective transport
100%, but landing right on top of that fence or a step or something might not be so good
Cats can land safely from an airplane if they're a bit lucky with where they land, their terminal velocity is below fatal. As long as they have time to adjust so they land legs down.
Yup they fly like squirrels to slow down at a certain height. The cat in this video just starts doing it before it's caught. I don't know the exact distance but like medium distance falls are the most dangerous for cats because they can't pull their parachute from that height, in a way.
Probably. The fall distance in the video is likely between 20-25 feet. Cats can survive a fall like that and it'd have an even higher chance of success if it landed on a seat instead of the floor.
The way one of them didn't hold the flag well enough and the part that he was holding snapped out of his hand when the cat landed 😭😭😭 this is so stupid. It's so obvious that you have to grip it very tightly. At least they aimed right. Glad the cat is okay anyway
These kinds of videos always reminds me of my childhood. We lived in a 3 storey apartment block for a couple of years - groundfloor, 1st and 2nd floor. The family living on the 2nd floor had a cat that would routinely jump from their kitchen window, land on the sidewalk and just walk off like it was nothing.
Cats are amazing when it comes to heights. They also have incredibly bad eyesight in daylight so I doubt the cat in the video could see the ground clearly from up there. I'm glad they caught it because it might otherwise have landed on a backrest and hurt itself.
Interestingly enogh cats live and be fine when falling at terminal valocity but not in a range between then. So it is actually safer to let it fall after a certian point. Not here though.
How do you think Tunisia will do in the African Cup of Nations tournament that just started? Along those lines, who do you think will ultimately win it?

that catch was better than anything happening on the field. glad the kitty is safe!
"Our QB just got sacked, why are they cheering?"
I was there and we were wondering why they were cheering lol. It was in between plays though
I love how the catcher held the kitty up like they were the new Lion King. :D
I bet kitty went through five lives during that fall!
(Deleted due to u/Main_Cauliflower5479 not finding it funny)
There is that game Exploding Kittens!
Caterwauling
Taco Bell parking lots all along the east coast. there are hundreds of them
It was also more important than anything happening on the field! 😉
That cat is probably terrified by all the screaming lmao
agree but thank god it’s safe
Cats can fall pretty far.
People can fall pretty far, too. Miles, in fact.
The outcome of that is a different matter, but you mentioned falling. Ü
Yeah but it could have gotten seriously hurt landing on a railing or a back rest of a seat etc.
Personally tested I see
No, not that far
Actually yes that far. They are actually safer falling from a high height than a short height because it gives them time to adjust mid air to land on their feet and splay out to distribute the forces more evenly.

It's because of all the cat science
Probably got the john wick plot armour

Sure they can. Anything can fall that far.
It’s god’s fault it fell…
No, thank the people who actually caught it. God just sat back and watched
it’s just a saying.. not a comment on god. Chill out
As if she fell right into a gathering of hungry primates, screaming, yelling and showing teeth.
Some holding what seemed to be fluffy buns with a flat circle of beef flesh in between along with semi burned pig flesh.
And the cat wondered... Am I next?
He's on his way back up to try it again.
Gosh, how traumatized that poor thing must be was my first thought.
Traumatized for life. It doesn’t remember just falling, but falling into a horde of screaming demons.
Yeah, and cats don't have fall damage anyway, if anything its an overreaction by the crowd.
someone at the cat distribution system is losing their job
Not sure about that.... This cat suddenly has 30,000 adoption applications.
I saw the lady in white climbing over the barrier at the end and I was like "Oh that lady is going home with a new cat tonight"
that's great but this method of delivery was clearly a mistake. I'm sure HR are already discussing it
Don't worry, I'll be karen and get a manager. They won't get away with this!
They just sent out their best stunt man for a PR move, seems like it paid off
I thought oh goodness, watch the lady twist her ankle:)
I really hope she got it 😭😭
The cat distribution system is a natural system. There are no jobs.
Imagine if nobody had noticed it up there and it just landed on someone's head.
I was just sitting there, enjoying the football. Next thing, wallop! Cat upside me head.
Cat Distribution System working overtime
Someone in my hometown was hospitalised last week because a cat fell out of a window, and the kitty sadly died a couple days later.
I'm sorry to hear that 😔
I cant lie I’ve had to catch my cats from less serious heights and that shit really hurts. That cat would open someone’s scalp, I can’t even imagine that trauma if this went the other way
If a human landed on a cat's head from that height? I'm thinking one turned into meat-jam.
I didn’t realize I worded it like that lol. Now it’s even worse.
I think the lady should've screamed more. Definitely would've helped them catching the cat.
[deleted]
It's true, in an emergency, nothing is more helpful than the shrill wale of a banshee SCREEEEEEEEE---~~~!!!
"AAAAAH - omg AAAAAH ... AAAAAAAAH!" She isn't even the one trying to catch it.
It’s funny how the most interesting thing happening at sporting events always has absolutely nothing to do with the sport.
I bet you say "sports ball" a lot.
“Gooo sports!”
That unnecessary screaming though.
Is there a subreddit for this? I've seen so many videos like this featuring unnecessary screaming
Who would want to go there?
all the people who get offended by folks who don't like hearing screaming i guess
The kitten got saved by that woman's soundwaves from her screaming. Shes the true hero
Sometimes people are just feeling emotions, man.
And the only way to show them is by screaming?
Some people just have involuntary ticks when in stressful situations. I sigh A LOT when I get the tiniest bit exasperated or stressed. I don’t even realize i do it most of the time.

Weird to assume that, but okay
Yap yap
Not sure if I'd call that the best catch, looks like someone let go of a cnr.
even if the corner get's ripped out of your hand, the change in velocity prevented the animal from slamming into the concrete.
Also, this is college, so one corner is enough for a completed catch.
I know, it just wasn't the great catch I expected.
I would've done the exact same trying to save it, but the cat would've almost certainly been fine falling from that height. Cats are indestructible.
Oh no not from that height. Even if it landed on it's feet, it's muscles and bones would have to meet huge force. Imagine the muscle and bone strain. It would certainly get injured. Way less than most other animals, but still hurt
Especially if it hits concrete. They can orient themselves in space to land on their feet and are flexible but not indestructible.
I think the worst-case is if it hits a seatback.
Yes, falling on some kind of edge or protruding thing is not made much better with landing on all fours...:(
Fun cat fact. Mice can survive a fall from any height because their terminal velocity is so low it doesn’t hurt them.
It's a similar story with cats, except there's a weird middle point where they don't survive.

Cats shoulders aren't connected like other animals. They sort of "float" so the impact they take doesn't transfer as much and cause serious injuries.
I don't know what to tell you.
That you won't overestimate the resilience of cats? hehe
I would never admit defeat like that!
They’re really not. They’re just good at hiding pain and injuries
Of course they can get injured. Just as anyone can get injured doing anything.
But they are exceptionally good at surviving extreme falls. That's just a fact.
yup - was seeing a girl and the cat fell out of a fucking 15th story window and survived
nah I knew a girl who had a cat and it fell out of a 15 story window and survived
Probably better that way. Reduces the max impact force.
How in the hell did he get up there to begin with???
Cats can get *anywhere*.
My hometown recently had a coyote get itself stuck and then unstuck upstairs, outside the railing on the edge of a hotel parking garage.
Humans aren’t the only creatures too creative or curious for their own good.
"Yep, that's me alright. You're probably wondering how I got into this situation..."
they're really good at climbing, not so great at thinking ahead as to how they'll get down
Ahhhhh zabenyaaaa bagithi babaaaaa
Best use of a flag I've ever seen
Yeah scream some more at the terrified kitty that'll help
Would that cat survive that fall anyways?
100%, but landing right on top of that fence or a step or something might not be so good

Where did that cat come from?
This is my question too. What series of events could possibly lead to this cat finding itself in this predicament?
it looks young. It probably got spooked all the way up there. It could have been sleeping originally.. somewhere, who knows where
Thanks for screaming a lot lady. You really helped the situation
How does screaming help that situation?
The random lady screaming contributed nothing not ear pain
Let's all scream when a terrified kitty is rescued.
Exactly what is the point of screaming...
To make it more intense.
There’s always a screamer
Always gotta be that one girl always screaming for no reason
I don’t understand why women have to scream at any event someone cannot control
The screaming really helped them catch the cat. Fml
Wish this was the same concern & love for all animals
This is exactly how cats have 9 lives
Humans - extremely cruel sometimes - other times extremely "human" ☺️ Love this moment. Aliens would have a hard time understanding us.
Utterly brilliant
Ngl, I would’ve bought all those involved a beer.
Just 8 lives left
No one seemed to notice how his scar faced brother pushed him off the roof.
This is absolutely adorable. I love how invested everyone is in helping the little guy.
You could tell halfway down that the cat would have landed just fine on its own
Y’all was trippin out like it didnt have 8 more lives left
r/humanbeingbros
Instantly spread eagled like godamn adrenaline junky trying to get a bit more juice out of the run
🙌 go canes
And well done 😊
for cat this height don't bother .it will survive. my cat jump from 2nd floor building like eating a candy
Cat distribution system is starting to test airdrops
Imagine if they slightly missed
Imagine how many cats fall when no one is there to see
lol i love seeing everyone’s joy. happy the kitty is safe 🥹
The way one of them didn't hold the flag well enough and the part that he was holding snapped out of his hand when the cat landed 😭😭😭 this is so stupid. It's so obvious that you have to grip it very tightly. At least they aimed right. Glad the cat is okay anyway
At the end 💀
New sport. "Cat Catching"

Does the fan get to keep the cat he caught or is it like the NFL where you get assaulted by security if you don't give it up?
Interestingly enogh cats live and be fine when falling at terminal valocity but not in a range between then. So it is actually safer to let it fall after a certian point. Not here though.
How did kitty get into this compromising position?
that guys are heroes
The most wholesome thing I've seen all day...
Wow! thats one lucky cat!!!
👋👏 More interesting than the game itself!
How do you think Tunisia will do in the African Cup of Nations tournament that just started? Along those lines, who do you think will ultimately win it?
How the hell did it get up there?
The CDS is getting a bit extreme with it's tactics.
That's the way to do it, Lion King that shit.
How many of the 9 lives was that? 🙂
Wonder how they got that cat out. It was prolly scratching like crazy.
Meowaaaallll
That’s the reason we won ! Thanks kitty
Cat steals the audience attention, that's a new one
My heart dropped watching that. Huge respect to whoever helped
If we can do this, we can overthrow the government
An then, on that very day, humanity got a little bit better.
Nice catch. It is quite hard to pinpoint a falling object from that high up. I still don't understand why women scream at intense situations.
Merica!!!
I love the Baby Simba style hold at the end
Saving private kitty 🐈
The Lion King
cats always fall on their feet so she would definitely have survived but I'm glad there are such kind people in this world
Thank God 😊
and the crowd goes wild!!!
That cat would’ve been fine
How TF did that cat get up there? Great save tho!
…and then you see this reaction from people, and something is regained 😊
SOMEBODY CALL PIXAR I FOUND THEIR NEXT MOVIE
They never hold it tight. You can see the guy drop the corner and the cat falls another section down
❤️❤️❤️❤️ Good save!!
How did she get there???
Chill, cats are immune to fall damage and have 9 lives.
lol did they hold him up like simba after
Most exciting thing about that game
‘Punts kitty through posts in celebration’
If there was every a moment not to pick up that cat and hold it up like Simba for the crowd. Miss opportunity.
Now had the cat landed from that height, would the cat have survived?
