Hello all, I have a Polyphemus moth who has recently passed, and was put in the freezer. I have the kit to pin, but his wings are so damaged, as in basically the whole tips are gone and the bottom is frayed. I really want to try to repair the wings using something like tea bags and gold leaf, but I am afraid of damaging them, and making them look tacky. I also considered using donor wings from a specimen that I would purchase, but honestly it feels wrong. This moth means a lot to me in ways that nobody would understand, and I am also considering just pinning the moth as is, with severely tattered wings. I am planning on including the cocoon it hatched from in the shadow box I will display it in. Please be gentle with comments, this is a subject that currently is fragile for me. Thank you all for reading, and happy new year to all!!! ❤️

  • Personally I’d just pin it the way it is. Especially with the sentimental value it holds to you. In my eyes the torn wings show the beauty of life. Another alternative is pinning in a life like pose and putting the moth in a dome display. Would be beautiful to have it resting on a branch that the cocoon hangs from
