• after more than 20 years, they are making some of their best music now. Night Network (2020) was amazing, but this one is incredible, what an album and what a band.

I went back and listened to Night Network today, because it's one I've listened to the least, for whatever reason, but yeah, such a great album. They're true hit makers.

  • Welcome back guys! I Love Album!

    I love…..lamp.

knopparp... are you just looking at things in this thread and saying you love them?

  • This is so good. What a band!

  • Fantastic album, so glad they're back!

  • So good to have them back

  • The Jarmans are some of the most underrated pop songwriters in recent memory.

  • It hurts that this band's output since the indie sleaze days wrongfully gets lumped into the same pile as all their contemporaries from that time, so sorely overlooked. They are arguably the most underrated songwriters from the British indie rock scene and each album varies in sound so greatly. Each album is a stand-out.

That being said, there's once again some fantastic, catchy pop-rock tunes here and sonically it's the most similair to 'The New Fellas' which was their breakout of the 2000's, but I feel there's not as much as variety in them in comparison to something like Night Network, For All My Sisters or Brazen Bull. Still a great album though. Will definitely be giving it more spins.

To put it into context - Jeff Rosenstock raves about The Cribs, to the point he mentions them in one of his songs, he mentioned owing a lot to their melodies in an interview once.

Haven't had a chance to listen to the new record yet, but hard agree on what you wrote about the band being wrongfully dismissed / categorized. I can't think of another band from that era that has worked with as many of my favorite producers as The Cribs have - their choices in that respect, alone, put them a notch above. And a lot of care is put into all of their releases, not just the music itself but also the album artwork, etc. I'm really psyched to check this new one out, although it's a slight bummer to learn that it's not as varied as the albums you mentioned (which are my faves!).

I agree with everything but the variety tbh, there's a lot of variety here like I don't think they've had an opera singer in their music before lol, id say it's sort of like Night Network if you threw in their older guitar sound. This is another amazing album, very dancey too.

The guitar tone on the title track is sooo the New Fellas

  • They were my best friend’s fave band back in the day. I wasn’t super into them because they were her thing and we were teenagers so I needed my own thing, but fuck I know all the songs already and I’m loving this album. I feel like I’m in 2007 again.

  • Nine albums in and not a dud among them, that is some streak. There are many fav bands of mine where even at this stage I’d most likely still only listen to their prime albums, usually the early ones. The Cribs haven’t fallen victim to this, and if anything as their output goes on, the more invested I am in the new albums.

I can’t wait to see them live again in a few months.

I would say the only dud was 24/7 rockstar shit. That album was so weak from them

I get where you may be coming from, but it is completely in their wheelhouse, a raw, unpolished and Steve Albini produced record. It has all the hallmarks of what they are. I think it’s a good record though it may not have songs/singles that equal their best.

No way is that a dud.

  • Love the boys, the singles on this absolutely whip

  • While I knew they were making a Pop album, didn't expect it all to turn out so similar. It's smart to open a song with a banger riff ("Self Respect") but it has to either evolve or keep up the energy level. Out of all the sameness, the real standouts are "You'll Tell Me Anything" (with an Opera singer no less!) and the deep ballad that changes moods over its course ("Looking For The Wrong Guy."

  • On my first listen, they don't disappoint. Looking forward to seeing them on their in-store tour this week!

  • My favourite band so I’m biased. Love the album. I tried to rank their albums and I honestly can’t do it. Each one sounds so different but is still totally The Cribs. Hard to explain. Can’t wait to hear these new tracks played live in march.

  • Legit my favourite band (even have a tattoo) so this is definitely biased but I love this album man. The second half is really dreamy. So glad they are back! Still waiting on the Exclamation Pony record though..

  • Hell yeah og iPod artists

  • Wow, this was love at first listen for me. It threw me for a bit of a curveball about halfway through, when it goes a little bit '80s, which was really exciting! Totally solid indie pop that's a little shinier than some of the older records while still retaining that signature Cribs scrappiness. The standout for me so far is "Self Respect," but all the singles are brilliant too. Looking forward to listening to this on repeat for the rest of the month.

  • No skips. Straight fire hooks. The cribs don't miss
