Surprisingly Blues-ish and reoriented toward a less chaotic Fall or Birthday Party musical direction. Evil Evil Idiot is the standout. Blood is a great single.
When the piano comes back in ~2:09 and then shortly after that guitar solo... Hell yeah. I was a little bit underwhelmed by track 2, which turned out to be the weakest for me, but this confirmed the band still has it.
i’ve been so excited for this album. i was listening to Her Hippo yesterday and was curious if anyone else picked up on the Secret Love lyric? adds another layer to the album!!
I thought the singles were being released a bit too far off from release, but there's still a lot of surprises on the album. Blood -> The Cute Things blew me away, such variety of style. Just a really fun album
I know people like Stumpwork. That’s actually the more common opinion about that album with those who like the band so it’s refreshing to read from those for whom it never really clicked.
Stumpwork is the fan favourite - it's weirder and moodier and more emotionally sophisticated - but NLL is preferred by more casual listeners (of arty British post-punk) because it, plainly, kicks ass.
I feel like if the vocals weren't delivered as they are, no one would listen to Dry Cleaning and they'd be lost among the other contemporary post punk bands. This being said I love the vocal delivery.
This being produced by Cate Le Bon means that this sounds like an evil Cate Le Bon album (complimentary).
Literally could not stop thinking about it being evil Cate Le Bon during my first listen
stoked for this album. been a fan of theirs for a while and caught em live a couple times now with another coming this year.
highly recommend any fans to check out Life Without Buildings as well. similar vibe.
Thanks for the recommendation. Loving their album so far
The Leanover by Life Without Buildings is one of my favorite songs
ive never listened to dry cleaning before, beyond admiring their album artwork and shall start with this album for the hell of it
This unironically reads like a Dry Cleaning lyric
I'm guessing this album cover is the eye-bleach for the last one.
Listening now. Absolutely adore Evil Evil Idiot
Definitely my favorite!! There’s so many good ones though I may change my mind
"Heating it up increases the likelihood that the chemicals inside will leach into your food and drink and into your body where they do their damage"
*sick guitar riff*
Holy shit, bars🔥
One needs to enjoy life, and my only access route to blissful enjoyment is those burnt foods

Holy shit this has my hype
My Soul / Half Pint is the standout for me after the first listen. I don’t give a fuuuuck

Yeah, this track smacks.
It's amazing — seems it would've been perfect as a single, but I imagine they wanted to keep some surprises. Tom is such an inventive guitarist.

Really digging this - absolutely rips
Fuck, I love them so much. So glad they’re back.
this is great evil evil idiot and rocks are highlights for me on first listen, they really never miss.
I LOVE DRY CLEANING

Very early AOTY for me for sure
First album I’ve listened to from this year, so I guess it is #1 right now
A bit early to call this AOTY

Well this is all that's passed of the year so far, so technically they're kind of correct /s
It's like one of the first albums released haha
this is so great
I'm enjoying this so far, but listening on earphones she sounds uncomfortably close to my ears lol.
🗣️
Interesting so far! Never heard of them before. Vocally, the singer kind of reminds me of Sarah Cracknell (Saint Etienne).
More like the band King Hannah in my opinion
Let’s goooooo
Heartbroken they pulled out of the Atlanta show, but ah well
Wasn't a fan of Stumpwork which musically felt a bit flat compared to their debut but on first listen this sounds like they got their groove back.
Stumpwork grew on me so much that I might even prefer it to their debut.
Can't wait to listen to this one, the singles sound great.
Same. The guitar work on songs like Gary Ashby is beautiful. I still think the first two EPs are their best tho

As that is my feeling too.
Their debut is definitely more beloved

Oh. Well that restores my confidence in the world.

Check out their KEXP session and see for yourself.
Who is the artist who created the album cover?
Erica Eyres.
Dissapointing imho. A "Meh" for me. It's a pity because I really liked their last album.
I am going to listen to this full album and give this band another chance but I do not understand why this is the vocal delivery. SING
lol it’s one of the best parts about them. It’s just not for you
I feel like if the vocals weren't delivered as they are, no one would listen to Dry Cleaning and they'd be lost among the other contemporary post punk bands. This being said I love the vocal delivery.
The guitarist is immense tho
The punchy front and center bass is also fucking amazing
Makes the band honestly
I disagree, as their instrumentalists are very talented
Lou Reed
I like to imagine that you post the same comment on every rap artists new release
Nnnno.
This is what stops me too. I don’t like the spoken word style vocals.
