I have been a member of this sub for a few weeks now. But, it's super frustrating to see so many low-quality, shoe posts so regularly. I'm sure this will piss off a lot of people but it has to be said.
Honestly, I feel this is more a running shoe deals sub than a running community. I'd love to see more posts about what event you're running, what training plans you use do you have a coach, tracking runs, general training advice, challenges, accomplishments, and failures. I want to hear your personal story and the joy running brings you. The high you feel when you finish a great run. Those random moments when tears drip down your face because running unlocked something in you.
Not simply which shoes are available at a cut-price deal. Shoes are great, yes. But, that's not even the 0.1% of what running is about. Please be a bit more mindful on what you post guys.
Absolutely spot on!
Agreed. Been guilty of the same too.
But gears are the first thing that amateur runner gets excited with and considering the high costs of quality gears/shoes, the excitement of getting a cost effective deal goes a touch higher. So it should be understandable.
We all will mature. We all will grow. May patience be the virtue till then!
I get what you're saying but people should focus more on running than the gear. Once you're able to get some consistency, you'll end up finding the right shoes in no time.
Oooh on that note I just found my favourite shoe available in my size on Myntra, am about to buy it xD
On the flip side wanted your opinion. What approach would you personally go with for Tata Mumbai Marathon next month given it is more running while the sun is up (late start):
1. Proven pace last marathon but flatlined in the last 5 km. Tried the same approach in Goa 32km race last week where the strategy worked but still worried of flatlining towards the marathon end
2. Who cares about time, just go with a sightseeing approach. Go 1 min slower per km overall as Mumbai will be hotter and humid and most of the run will be in the morning sun.
Lol.. you almost rage-baited me there.
I haven't done the Mumbai marathon but I've heard from friends/acquaintances that it gets damn hot.
As for hitting the wall in the end, it's the inevitable truth of the 42k, isn't it?
I would go with 1. if you had sufficient training at the pace you're aiming for. If the goal is to finish, well, you know the answer. Go out there, have fun. Be a cheerleader, encourage others and just take it easy.
A couple of things you could try for case 1.
Edit: Made some contextual changes.
They have ice buckets and sponges at many aid stations. There will be locals along the way that will spray water on you.
Kids compete among themselves to make you take the candy that they are giving out.
TMM’s biggest attraction is the crowds that gather on the sidelines.
That's frickin' awesome! The vibe will make you run faster for sure.
On the contrary, it made me want to run slower and enjoy the innocent enthusiasm. 5-8yr olds chasing you with candy saying “take from me, take from me”… I stopped, walked, and took candy from everyone. Maybe I’m too old 😅
Ice buckets!! That sounds like I can up my pace a bit :)
I am still scared of the entire running in sun part. I practise only running early mornings as there is no use needlessly tanning. I hate running while carrying stuff and find earphones and such stuffy.
Now I might have to most probably get a nice cap to run in the sun. Maybe a craycol. I only have a month and need to make some changes.
But most probably I do not think this is somewhere I can reasonably PB given the conditions
Take a sponge soaked in ice cold water and put it at the back of your neck in that heat - Jesus, it’s the closest thing to an orgasm outside of a real one. I groaned in pleasure in the middle of the road. 😂
Yeah I have never run TMM. And online it keeps scaring me saying peddar road at the end is hell. I did a 32k, 2 days ago which I completed with enough energy to run more. Was cruising at 155ish heart rate throughout which was good. But it was in Goa which was surprisingly too cool and not that hot even at the end with minimal sun this year so I think I cannot directly depend on these results.
I now want to taper for the next month. So decisions decisions. Honestly am wondering if I should start TMM with a cap, sunglasses etc. I do not run with them but don't want to crash out of the race because I want to run light and end up overheating
Option 2
you need to chill
On point
Right. Many gear related posts are just pointless.
Is this deal worth it? Is this shoe okay?
Mate, if you want the shoe, just get it. Why does internets opinion on price matter. If you feel spending 10k is okay, spend it. Who are we to say. If you find the same shoe in 2k at your neighbouring shop get it from there for 2k. What's the need of internets approval if it's a good deal or not? What's with the insecurity? Noone is going to laugh at you for purchasing things for your hobby at a little extra price.
If you're worried about comfort of the shoe and if it is a matter of great importance go to the physical store and check for yourself. Or order and return if you have too much time on your hand. How would people on internet know whether if the show that is comfortable for them is going to be comfortable for you as well. It's a matter of personal preference.
I think people who post such low quality posts are just spamming and lack internet etiquettes. Less to do with running more to fit in with popular culture. I know it's bit judgemental but that's how I feel.
Especially when there's already 50 posts about the same damn shoe!
iS tHE sElLeR gENuINe?
Bro just search the freakin sub for a minute.
Is the seller genuine? Like we are vetting online sellers on the sub.
What if people on the sub say it's genuine and you get scammed regardless? Sue the sub? Sue user? What's the point? Why would people on the sub know if listed seller is genuine. Ask the platform about sellers authenticity.
And if you have such a low trust, go to a showroom and get what you see even for a higher price, you'll have peace of mind atleast. And won't waste time on internet getting unsure answers.
Saw a rate my shoe post today. Talk about vanity. Lol kya rate kare le hi liya hai toh? Aisa bole ki chutiya ban gaya third class joota hai? Le liya hai toh achha hi bolenge na. 😅
Precisely.
For some it's about validation more than the running. Hurr durr look at my Strava. Calm down buddy no one cares.
I don't mind people bragging about PB and stuff people put in good effort. Some people get motivation to do better. And it's okay to acknowledge, it's a sign of a positive community.
But 'rate my shoe', 'is it a good deal'. Lol, I'm going to downvote such posts from now on.
Precisely, my point. The point is to start running. Once you have some semblance of a habit, you'll find the right pair of shoes eventually. It doesn't need a pointless discussion with strangers.
Now I need to hide my shoes from reddit too besides family
You better hide it. What do you think you can show off in front of anonymous strangers? /s
The point isn't about hiding or posting. My issue with how many shoe deals posts people keep posting. It's very low effort.
Yes. There are no rules against it but what I'm posting is my opinion. People can like it or not. It's up to them. But, I would like to see better posts that offer more value.
Good you brought it up. When I see the picture of a shoe, I just scroll. I was toying with the idea of suggesting that this sub may kindly be renamed as "Running Shoes India" .
Running shoes India isn't a bad idea. Or the mods need to create some rules to allow for these in a thread. Surely, there's better ways of doing this.
Check out few of my post and provide feedback 😆
Exactly.
People should learn the art of asking questions, or even better, with the AI Tools, you give it your custom context, point it towards this subreddit, and it will spit out better answers than we can ever give.
They literally put up these posts like they're chatting in a whatsapp group. SMH. I mean they need to think a little.
If they found a pair of shoes they probably already know the MRP. What they're here for most of the time isn't even to ask for an opinion, it's more like "look what I found" type shit.
Exactly 💯 at times it feels like a shoe suggestion and feedback sub
That's what I'm saying. The mods need to create some sort of a running shoe guide to help with this. Beginners will obviously have these questions but as a subreddit, mods need to handle it better.
Brought a rs 900 shoes (sparkx) , does the job be it 5 or 10k. Don't understand the hype regarding nike Asics and all other shoes.
My first ever running shoe wasn't even a running shoe. I bought an Rs.800 sneaker on Myntra and clocked 53 minute 10k on it. It was many moons ago and I have better shoes now but not a better time.
When I was young ,I used to play football barefoot, after few years the places where I wanted to play required shoes , so I bought the cheap ones. I played with them for many years until I switched to nike once. The shoes were light and perfect. My first touch with the ball was even better. It was at that moment I realised the cheap shoes were a game changer back in the day. Because those were heavy and required constant maintenance, my legs got used to it. With nike I could perform even better. Overtime the quality of Indian shoes have also improved.
Which shoe to buy under 5k for a beginner runner?
Come to think about it, I never saw any structured training plan in this sub... Good point op..
Anyways is lodablast good for 5k ultraironman
I have stopped coming to this sub as all I see is “is my xyz shoe legit??”
Shoes are the first things people think about before they start.
Many people now starting to enter this habit of running so they are starting with gears . They didn't face anything other than shoes because they didnt started yet.
Not all people starts ,some will starts and the same people will ask or about running plans ,tracks, diet, experience .
It's like cycle , if you are level 3 , dont comment about people in level 0.
Some experience people also ask about shoes but that's very small number.
Pls let them ask and start run with good shoes 🏆
All valid points, my dude. Running has helped me immensely and I'd love to see how it helps others too. But, my rant is with how they post.
"Shoe price - xxxx. Is it worth it?"
They aren't asking if it is good for beginners? The fit, size, none of that. It's all just just "price so and so -good or not?"
It shows they already looked the shoes up, saw the price difference, so they want to buy. It's this attitude I'm ranting about.
