Pls guide me , i want to complete ironman 70.3 Goa in 2026

  • I salute your knees!

Yea , but i can’t keep this up . I need to lose weight

    Congratulations. True grit.

Could you please share some tips on how you protect and strengthen your knees? Also, how long have you been running?

Thank you Even i don’t know how to protect the knees man , got myself a super comfy running shoe . Researched a lot on proper running posture and breathing techniques and pulled it off . For running this is my first run . I ran a 5 km 8 years ago in 8th Std when I weighed around 70 kg or so .. this is my first run in a long time

    Which shoe did you get?

    Puma proseries+ running shoes

You have the motivation keep the grind going

Maybe try interval running or fartleks. Faster runs but at lower distances might be easier on your knees.

    Thanks that’s helpful

  • I bow to you sir.

Just makes me think how fragile my mind is.

Thanks i appreciate the compliment but trust me you can do it too

Maybe my body is capable but I don’t think my mind is

Maybe but you will get there soon

  • Doing 29K at 136Kg weight is insane. Aag lgadi bhai tumne to 🔥🔥🔥🫡🫡

    Thanks man

Do you really run or walk most of the way, im scared I will get knee pain, are we allowed to walk in the marathon

It was jogging and walking mixed, there was no running involved, just remember the rule “if you can talk while moving then your pace is right ”. You can walk as long as you finish the marathon within the cutoff time

    Nice Thanks

  • Brother i really respect your mental strength but please if you keep running with such body weight/composition it's really going to be hard on your knees. Please reduce weight and then run, tab tak thoda sabr karlo

You’re right bro , somehow my knees are ok it’s my toes that are in pain. Please share any advice you got for me i will gladly take it and thanks for the concern

Yes the pain will travel slowly upwards. I don't know your body composition and BMI but one thing I'll say is not to start running until you are into 90s weight wise. Even excess walking is not recommended afaik. Calorie deficit is the way to go. I know it's gonna be hard and you really want to run and walk and lose that excess weight but you've already shown that you have impeccable will power so reducing weight won't be an issue. I wish you all the best bro i know you'll smash it :)

Thanks man this was the advice that i was looking for . Thanks

  • I’m a heavier runner who recently did 70.3 at ~98kg. A few things 1) don’t train for IM to lose weight. You’ll be incredibly hungry from tough sessions and eat like mad. I put on 8 kg in the year I trained for IM. 2) within 70.3s Goa is particularly hard due to hot weather and hilly bike route. Consider looking up more beginner friendly IMs 3) start with a few sprints / Olympics to decide if you like the sports. Starting with the goal in mind is going to be tough. 4) Please get a coach if you are starting out. Last year there was an unfortunate death at a Karnataka triathlon (he passed way after finishing the event) so please get your medical in order to make sure you are ok, and understand how to fuel / hydrate during the event

DM if you want to chat.

Thank you so much for your advice. I appreciate that you took your time and wrote so much .. ironman has been a goal of mine from quite a while . I will try to get a good coaching and focus a little on my weight its a part of the progress. I sent you a DM

  • Great job, my friend! At your body weight it is an incredible achievement.

Finishing a half Ironman is a big goal and quite challenging. I don't want to discourage you but it feels a bit too ambitious given you have only a year to go. You may well complete it but you might get injured which will take away your hard work and might scare you off this whole thing for a while. I ran a marathon simply because I set a goal to run one in 4 months. The prep went horribly, I got injured because of too much mileage in too little time. I did finish it but an hour and a half off my target time and I practically had to crawl for the last km.

So what I'm saying is to work towards it slowly. You can continue with the running and add in a cycling and a swim session regularly. Also, do one or two strength sessions a week, and eat balanced meals. After about 6 months, you could revisit trying a 70.3.

Thank you this is so helpful and appreciate you for being honest 🙏🏻

Of course. Please keep posting regularly. I'd love to follow your progress!

I will try my best to do

  • 105 KG’s here, trying to jog/ run but knee pains a bit, so I stick with cycling and walking.

Doesn’t your knee pain? How did you manage it?

I'm not heavy, but you need to work on exercises that strengthen your knees and muscles and stabilizer around it.

Don't run if you don't have a habit of it.. that's how I started.

Start with some HICT, and you'll be able to run in 1-2 weeks easily

I do regularly since 6 years (did my first half-marathon in 2019 and run the original Athens marathon race as well already). In my experience glucosamine and collagen helps and also regular strength training on the side. I used to have slight joint pain in the beginning, but after adding these, not anymore.

Are these supplement or is it possible to get them from food I eat daily?

They are supplements, I usually get them from amazon here in Germany, but any generic brand should be ok, as long as the quality is reliable/unadulterated.

Trust me Breathing and posture matters a lot . I researched a lot , and I advise you too invest too . Don’t ignore knee pain take precautions

I was 107KG on November 2023 and I'm at 78KG now. My advise to you is, focus on the strength training for sometime (till you fell your muscles are strong). Remember the important thing always is 85% diet contributes to the fat loss. And slowly start the running journey. Btw, I started running for the last 3 months and I'm enjoying it. 😊 Take your time and try not to get injured.

  • I don't want to bring down your spirits and what you did is quite an achievement, but do you think it is a good idea to run at that weight? I'd just ask you to be careful, if you do decide on continuing on this road. Good luck!

I guarantee you that no ego is involved in this run and i took all the necessary precautions before this run and thanks for your concern and please provide any extra advice you have for me . I will gladly take it

That's good to hear, and I commend you on your efforts. I'm glad you took my comments in the right spirit, and they were indeed meant that way. If not already, I'd ask you to check your pronation and choose your shoe accordingly. I wish you good luck and hope that you achieve your goals soon enough :)

Pleasures mine . Yea currently using puma pro series shoe its good and super comfy

Hey, kudos to you for the run firstly.

But I do agree with the concern here. A friend of mine around 110 kgs did something similar (rand 17kms or so) and then we went for a football game. Even before we started he suffered an ACL injury. We checked with the doc on why this all of a sudden, so his case was basically very high upper body weight. So would recommend you to go easy on your knees. Don’t increase mileage without reducing body weight first. Hope it helps.

Thanks appreciate the advice. Hope he’s ok and lost his weight for good

  • Ab-fockin-solutely no words bruv!

  • Nice pace, congrats!

Oh nice pace , you were in lokmat too .. insane run brother

thank you sir!! Your run is soo inspiring

  • That's really impressive man. Even for a person who weighs less than half of you, this is not an easy achievement. You should be proud of yourself

  • Bravo, OP!! IRONMAN 70.3 is an awesome goal, and it definitely takes a lot of strength and commitment. Not saying this to discourage you at all, but running with extra weight can lead to injuries. I’d suggest starting with low-impact stuff like walking or swimming, along with some basic strength training first. Good luck! I’m looking forward to seeing your progress 😊

Yea Thank you so much for your advice, I appreciate your concern and i will try to work on my weight before i push myself into long runs . Thank you 🙏🏻

  • You sir you make me feel weak 🫡

Not at all man your pace is insane

  • That's awesome, running 21k is not that easy, congratulations man All the best

    Thank you for the compliment

  • Crazy Achievement 🔥

  • Crazy persistence 🫡

  • Amazing ny Good Sir! Keep going!

  • Hats off to you sir .,🫡

  • Amazing brother, I am from the same city you belong doing more 29k is Insane there as bit difficult road and not a big city. Once again great achievement get rest, tap your back and give yourself a treat.

Thank you i appreciate your comment Yes our city isn’t good enough for running, roads are very bad and no jogging track

  • This is an absolute feat brother, I too am on the higher side of the healthy BMI and your run surely does motivate me. How did you cope with the shin splints , also did you face problem breathing?I have asthma so thats another hurdle for me:(.

Apply ton of petroleum jelly and buy a good pair of shorts no matter how much it cost , and i researched a lot in breathing techniques and posture for jogging ..

  • Now what excuse should I come up with? I thought 85kg is too much for my knees!

    Respect man!!!

If i can then you can too

  • MASSIVE RESPECT. 🫡

  • Best way to lose weight is to train with a plan There should be easy runs long runs recovery runs interval training Best way is to ask chat gpt what you want where you stand what you eat how much time you can give to training And try doing hit workouts And one more thing slow running( meaning a comfortable pace on which you can talk) that is idle for losing weight ( you can research about it too)

Thank you for sharing your opinion.. i will definitely use your advice

  • I’m not very experienced to give you advice but u guess take it slow dude, start out with smaller goals and keep progressing at your own pace. Going full out on a first run like that would put you at a risk of injuries. So be careful and take baby steps bro- one goal at a time

Yea you’re right . I will definitely work on this

  • Truly appreciate your determination!!! Also want to know what your knees are made of? Vibranium or Adamantium?

Lmao i was lucky i guess , didn’t face any injury or knee pain

    May this always remain true!!

  • Indian david goggins Next ultra marathon stay hard!!!!

  • This is an amazing feat!

But please do not overdo this. Chances of risk are very high.

I don't know anything about you, but I can share how I started: I started with strength training, focusing a lot on my lower body (Because I hike a lot, and I train to hike longer). This helped me both with weight loss as well as strengthening my muscles. But I did encounter severe shin pain during my initial days of running (probably because I never trained that part). Other than that, I never had any issues (touch wood).

Do not take my words, always refer to an expert.

  • Congratulations brother. What is your height? How long you have been training ?

Im 6’1 (186.7cm) . I didn’t train for this , just a week before marathon i got my diet right and did some walking 3-5 kms . This is foolishness to be honest, was little lucky got no injuries and im fully recovered

  • Crazy stuff. But kudos. Take care of you knees and ankles

Thanks man , will sure do

  • I am 82 kg

    Couldn’t last 7 km

    Hatts off

  • Amazing! Congrats ✨️ You're an inspiration 🔥

  • A Marathon is 42.2 kms, this is a 29 kms race. Impressive still - get some glucosamine to protect your joints and good luck with the next one!

Edit: I would recommend not to run much in the beginning. Focus getting in shape and reach a good BMI, muscle ratio before starting the long distances in order not to ruin your joints. For this swimming is the best, but even biking and simple walking is much easier on your ankle/knees. After you reach a good shape, follow a proper running plan so you can gradually improve and avoid injury.

Thank you so much man . I appreciate your advice and can you please elaborate on glucosamine. Anyways thanks for the genuine advice 🙏🏻

Glucosamine is a natural compound and building block for cartilage, tendons, and joint fluid, commonly taken as a supplement (sulfate or HCl) for osteoarthritis (OA) to support joint health and potentially reduce pain. I buy it usually on Amazon in Germany in a combination of glucosamine-chondroitin, because that shows the best clinical results. I have no brand preference, I would say any generic one with good quality/unadulterated should be good.

Thank you for your time . This genuinely helps i will definitely get that supplement

  • Which app is this I want to know

    Strava

So do I need to buy any specific product or accessories to use this app or it generally works with everything or is it paid please let me know.

Its a free app. Install it and you’re good to go.

Sorry to ask again but which one is more accurate? Addidas or Strava as both show approx 100m gap per round 😭

That is not app issue but your mobile GPS issue. Get a garmin or apple watch to get more accurate results

Brother I measure the distances at consecutive round and that too on different different days but distance data remains same so I don't think it's a problem of my phone gps. Also I can't afford good watch rn that's why I hv to relay on these apps. My question was which one is more accurate comparatively

Brother. Somedays I run 4.9km and on others I run 5.1km when I go for a 5k run.

    Do I care? No.

I went for a run. That's the most important part.

GPS data can be wonky for a number of reasons. Don't sweat so much running your mind.

  • How did you run 29km in a 21km race

Actually i ran in the wrong direction, the volunteers of the marathon were just stupid so i just ran 8km extra

Ohh, okay. You need to improve your average speed. You started fresh and got this average speed. Need to consider initial tiredness from swimming and cycling.

Yea , i will work on it , appreciate your opinion

  • Why?

    Just checking if my capable

No offence... But from the context it seems you are overweight... And doing this will kill your knees...

I understand the need to get fit... But imo you should respect your body.... That means not haras it by over drinking, over eating or over straining without the necessary tool...

Ye karoge... Body negatively respond karegi... Issue badenge...kam nahi honge...
