I’ve been on an off Reddit for 10 years and I’m not sure it ever has been. Most subs that are dedicated to making fun of a specific type of behavior tend to devolve into posting the same shit over and over or generality.
Jaden Smith was kind of the prototype for the content that gets posted here. A kid who wants to be seen as a deep thinker but has no frame of reference for what that actually looks like. So you get a lot of Philosophy 101 that’s framed in a pretentious way. Which makes sense from a kid, if you never pondered the Ship of Theseus or The Allegory of the Cave it can cause a bit of existential confusion. But instead of “wow I just learned about an interesting idea let me look at it more deeply” you get “I know I just learned about determinism 5 minutes ago but you’re actually all idiots for thinking free will exists and if more people accepted this things would be better, no I will not explain how.” The lack of the frame of reference is where the “I’m14” part of the name comes from.
This above is often conveyed through ham fisted symbolism which is a lot easier to find than somebody implying everything is meaningless and everyone else is a sheep because they just read some Camus. Since ham fisted symbolism is a common feature people just start posting anything that contains it even if it. Ham fisted symbolism normally appears to oversimplify issues. The next step from a political cartoon where the artist thinks they have everything figured out (*more on this later), is just anyone over simplifying issues which is the category I’d put this under. Which is where we are. The specific becomes general. It’s why subs dedicated to mocking “incels” just become anything they perceive as misogyny regardless of whether the subject of the post can get laid. I know there’s a version for “femcels” and to be fair and balanced™️ it’s the same way. The main difference is I don’t think this sub was ever really saturated with the original content. It’s been mostly the type of stuff I’m talking about for as long as I can remember.
*Put this down here because it is kind of off topic. There’s often nothing in the post on its face to suggest that the artist thinks their work is the be all end all of a particular issue, but by just posting something here it’s framed that way. It’s why subs dedicated to mocking things are notorious for posting obvious jokes under the guise of “you can never tell these days.” The people who say this never consider: 1) how many have they looked at they immediately accepted as sincere which helped them get to the point that they accept jokes at face value; and 2) whether curating the media they consume in a way where they are Ludocvio Techniquing themselves into seeing a particular type of content has hurt their ability to accurately gauge the behaviors prevalence?
This guy’s a hardcore rightwing, racist, anti-poor people, American Christian (like a saying “Christ is king” unprompted type) based on his comments elsewhere (I checked cause he commented these same things all over this thread, all just calling people stupid or saying “no” and adding nothing). He’s not worth bothering with.
There are way more than 500 people on earth who do not live off of their own labour. Anyone whose passive income allows for a life without labour falls into this category.
does no one understand the point of this sub? the past few hundred posts are all completely irrelevant and frankly don’t even follow the rules? is the sub lacking mods or something?
Its unbelievably corny and an oversimplification of reality its forced symbolism that alligns with the psedeou intellectual dribble that the subs supposed to be about, its making fun of how forced and pretentious of a take it is.
Its completely surface level and could be an observation made by a teenager, like the subs topic "im14andthisisdeep".
But do you need to be THIS hyperbolic to be pro working class?? Idk a lot of opinions on reddit seem to be highly radicalized, like they have a valid base but the sentiment is so cartoonishly exaggerated it kinda loses its value. People have reckless opinions because of frustration and everybody just reinforces it. Like yesterday I saw people calling for a second fucking french revolution...like the first one didn't bring WAY more harm than good for the country of France, just like, historically, almost all revolution-like movements brought about by frustration and populist thinking.
Again not saying the core idea that the corporatism we live just wrecks consumer power in the market, thus nulling the main thing that makes capitalism successful, is wrong and that the way things appear to run is acceptable, but all people just blindly yelling "eat the rich" without actual economics knowledge are fools
The lucky ones are the staff and get staff accommodations. A large chunk of the human population are the ones left sifting through the trash dump of the resort, or panhandling near the entrance
I think this post is an example of how just because something is "im14andthisisdeep" territory doesn't mean the underlying message is always invalid.
There's definitely a more nuanced, accurate, and intellectually rigorous way to approach this idea, but I also think a meme like this gets the basic point across rather simply and succinctly, and furthermore there are millions of people across the world who've never had this realization and need to have it ASAP.
The child naively believes that everything should be fair
and everyone should be honest,
that only good should prevail,
that everybody should have what they want
and there should be no pain or sadness.
The child believes the world should be perfect
and is outraged to discover it is not.

sometimes it's a kid making a mountain out of a molehill, making something so miniscule much larger than it is. But sometimes the truth and lack of filter in younger people let them see how fucked a lot of systems are.
says the person using an american made social media probably typing this from a computer of a high end 800 dollar phone
if we "ate" the rich, we would just make the government richer, and the government is the biggest monopoly, essentially the textbook definition of communism,
I mean, it's reddit, so it is obvious to see the "eat the rich" crowd being ticked off, who would have guessed the party of "diversity, equity and inclusion" would be so mad over someone disagreeing with them?
if we "ate" the rich, we would just make the government richer, and the government is the biggest monopoly, essentially the textbook definition of communism
"sanctioned and bullied", I'm cuban myself, and let me tell you, those sanctions are imposed to the communist regime in there, Cuba used to simply be a parasite of the USSR like most of eastern europe, and unlike Eastern Europe, when everything went to shit in 1991, they stood stagnated and with the same old system that didnt worked anymore while the government got richer and started building lavish hotels and resorts for the only thing they can contribute, tourism, If you love socialism so much, then why does the US build walls to keep people out, meanwhile the late USSR, North Korea, Venezuela and Cuba keep their people in? and why do you almost never hear stories of people migrating from capitalist to socialist countries?
and of yourse, you didn't answer my question, it is best to call someone a bigoted billionaire defender, amirite?
Please do a proper deepdive into socialism, communism, Marxism, Maoism etc. instead of just parroting what you've read or heard from others about it, you're displaying not even a surface-level understanding of it.
Western media especially in the U.S. has propagated a ton of falsehoods about it for ages.
You seem to care enough to have a strong opinion about this, so I request you to please take some time (maybe half a day, tops) to read a bit more about communism/socialism, particularly how anarchists on the left think of the entire situation. I'm not saying you are entirely wrong, but tbh I do think there is a lot of nuance missing in what you understand to be "Communism".
So either government which might do something for people or a single person whose puppet is entire nation??
Also that was the worst gotcha moment mate please educate yourself.
Socialism is when the government does stuff, and the more socialister it is, the more stuff it does. And when it does a whole lotta stuff, then it's communism.
The government is an entity that the people have control of in a democracy. Why would you want individuals to have those resources and power with no oversight instead? It makes no logical sense if you’re genuinely afraid of the too-powerful.
You got him there, typing from an 800 dollar phone! My god the wealth he must have, spending 4 years to pay of that phone. I guess that means we have to let people like Elon should have so much wealth that if you took away 99.7% of it, he would still be a billionaire. We should definitely have people like him be able to puppet the government so it only benefits him. I'm sure there is no problem at all of our government giving out money to businesses that never have to be paid back and giving tax cuts to the wealthy,
Be anymore of a brown noser and all you will be able to smell is shit.
so essentially, people with more money than you bother you
Elon can't arrest you or do shit against you, and even if the government took away all his money, theyre probably just gonna hoard it all, most people don't care about billionaires as much as redditors do anyways since what are they gonna do?
And good thing mentioned taxing the rich, if you tax the rich, guess what they are gonna do, LEAVE!
Massachusetts started taxing the rich, and surprise surprise, they didn't leave. Plenty of countries have taxed their rich and they don't not leave. We have taxed the rich higher in the past and they did not leave. There are plenty of third world countries that tax the rich less than the US, interesting how they don't all move there. I wonder why? You are following the propaganda of the rich.
Loopholes can be closed, but you seem to think the only options in the world are unrestrained capitalism or communism. It is funny how it took government intervention to making companies to not poison the air or water. Interesting how it took government intervention to have food safety standards. Interesting how it took government intervention from having 7 years olds working in mines. Interesting how it took government intervention from allowing your work to threaten you to get on a broken ladder or risk termination. There are options between unrestricted capitalism and communism.
I would also rather put trust in a government that I can elect people to vs corporations and wealthy that I have zero control over. You apparently trust the corporations not to choose the option of poisoning you if it would cost them less money. Are options are not just unrestricted capitalism or communist totalitarianism. Our government currently sucks now because we have made it legal for corporations to bribe the politicians.
Sorry for being a dick before, you have valid points for it and I was exaggerating some stuff in there, the government was never perfect to begin with and corruption always existed.
I was mainly mentioning how government power can still be misused and abused into communism, fascism, and other extreme systems, sorry for the lack of nuance, but I still kinda stand in my opinion, I wouldn't want anarcho-capitalism though
"you have a phone, checkmate liberal!" Dude genuinely, shut the fuck up. You're not clever for pointing out that they have a device to access the web, a TON, and I mean a METRIC FUCKTON of people have cell phones as they are a staple of modern life, what point do you think you're making, and how exactly does it seem valuable to you to point out an obvious fact and use it as some form of "Gotcha".
You're so afraid of communism that you can't see past your own damnable nose and would rather doghump the rich in hopes that they'd do right by you. Spoiler, they never fuckin' will, and would rather sacrifice you in front of your family for one particularly shiny penny.
i'm not even defending them, I'm just pointing out the hate boner y'all have against people having wealth, not like y'all doghumping governments and taxations aren't defending something that doesn't give a shit about you
Hating the rich does not exclude the government.
The rich are morally abhorrent sacks of filth if allowed to be (corporate or governmental), the government should always be the powerful arm of the people to enact said power over those who are otherwise excluded from control and would cause untold amounts of damage in the name of profits without half a thought for the greater whole of humanity or even their neighbors.
I'm not saying the government should be given absolute power, but how are the rich a balancing force against it (as this seems to be what you're implying: its the rich or the government. Correct me if I'm wrong.)
I wouldn't think of doghumping the government (or any government) but its a more viable alternative to rich bastards that are only in it for themselves as the government can be affected by the wants and needs of the public. Or rather, it's a more complicated relationship than the relationship we have/or do not have with the ultra wealthy.
I apologize for being a dick earlier, but come on.
Thats so liberal and dangerously progressive to consider options other than the two ends of the spectrum we were told about in 8th grade economics.
God made two genders when he created America. Communist and capitalist. If you dont like rich people I can only assume you are one of those Communists with a cellphone.
This guy specifically is. He might be a troll, based on his comment history, or he’s just super right wing, hates poor people, thinks black people are inherently more violent, and thinks taxes and social security are awful things and instead everyone should invest in the stock market from birth (not an exaggeration) to save for retirement. To be clear, I don’t normally check people’s comment history, but this guy’s comments on this post made me wonder if he was actually just a troll not worth responding to, so that’s why I checked.
I'm neither a troll or far-right, I was lacking some nuance and exaggerating some things, but I wanted to get my point across, I'm still right wing, but those accusations from you are false, apparently everybody right of Obama on Reddit is a billionaire ball gobbler or a troll.
edit: why did your reply just disappeared? oh you were talking about the cockaroo guy in here
If you disagreed with a more intelligent reply or made a better more nuanced point maybe you wouldn't have seemed like a billionaire ball gobbler.
From what I remember your point said a lot of nothing and got across that you are less familiar ideas of socialism, and more familiar with the fear mongering against it.
That combo does tend to make one come across as far right, but ill take you at your word that you're not.
Edit: your edit to your og reply does nothing but dig that hole deeper lmao.
I don't know which is funnier,
a) That this doesn't belong here, as it's a meme and not a serious or even seemingly deep poat
b) The lefties needing to post "true" or "based" every 3 comments
c) The people arguing with them
okay that's not fair, the antiwork sub does not speak for the rest of us when we say the ultrawealthy live completely different lives lmao.
This is like if someone said being racist to white people doesn't fix racism, and then everyone's like "yeah that's fair" but then you turn around with "Kanye said that" and now we all have to backpedal and specify.
Only 20 minutes and the "this is based yo" crowd already out in force. Is it too early on Sunday to play the "Bootlicker" accusation drinking game here?
It's true tho. The working class is enslaved by the capitalist class that is literally a parasite. They only waste and don't give any benefit to society
Nah that's crazy you think a library of all things is somewhere jeff bezos can't do what he wants lmao.
It's not like they can literally do anything they want, it's that a lot of the same rules just stop applying to you if you have enough money. Almost any kind of commercial area bends over backwards for you because you fullfil their primary concern which is making money. Things like libraries are gonna have a rough time speaking up if you're the #1 contributor for donations.
Sure. They can pay to use a library for something.
But, the libraries are for the public. Everyone can use them. Calling libraries a resort for rich people because they can pay to have them do things doesn't make sense to me.
Again the idea is that they have a much higher ability to go and do where and what they want. Like who at the library is going to stop their biggest investor from walking out with a dozen books and never returning them? Or tearing one up for fun? Obviously this isn't something that happens all the time, but you using it as an example doesn't address the fact that they can. You can't tax them, you can't punish them for their crimes, you can't expect them to live by most of the same constraints that other people live by because they just have so much money.

Damn... That's deep...
Real eyes, realise, real lies...

I don’t think a lot of people understand how subreddits work in general anymore. So many subs feel the same now
100% is truly a putty how reddit is becoming more and more of a homogeneous mush of slop.
Shit used to be more interesting before!
Said this the other day, got downvoted to oblivion.

„One person thinks this fits here. They must be true“
Ok but this is true though
This is why they're so desperate to make AI, then they can just let the rest of us starve to death
What a stupid comment
rich people would be fine if the rest of us died, so long as they could still live in luxury
This guy’s a hardcore rightwing, racist, anti-poor people, American Christian (like a saying “Christ is king” unprompted type) based on his comments elsewhere (I checked cause he commented these same things all over this thread, all just calling people stupid or saying “no” and adding nothing). Christ is king boyo
if all the poor folks died who would the rich have to stroke their egos?
No, they’d starve to death
500 is 2 low?
What do you mean?
they're saying there are more than 500 ultra rich people
But why are they ending with a question mark?
It is a sign of hesitation on text.
Like you would "No way, right?"
500 is low, isn't it?
Yes it is low.
No, that's how you are supposed to write the question. 500 is low? Makes me think they want to say that 500 is high
You can buy this house for the low price of 800k.
You see what I mean?
Yo mama?
I also choose yo mama?
Yo mama so fat when she hauls ass she has to take two trips
Who is Joe?
It is a sign of hesitation on text.
Like you would "No way, right?"
There are way more than 500 people on earth who do not live off of their own labour. Anyone whose passive income allows for a life without labour falls into this category.
Like you think the 600th richest person doesn’t have a great life?
It's actually about 3,000 billionaires and 30,000 centimillionaires
Nah, too high.....

I know you don't like capitalism but did you ever consider you use a cellphone? Check M8 commiiieess
I think we can do better than capitalism and state-socialism. Believe it or not there are more options than those two.
Thats so liberal and dangerously progressive to consider options other than the two ends of the spectrum we were told about in 8th grade economics.
God made two genders when he created America. Communist and capitalist. If you dont like rich people I can only assume you are one of those Communists with a cellphone.
Socialism, not communism. At least get your "textbook definitions" right
Eat this guy too.
“Eat the rich and the bootlickers” new slogan?
Nah? Pretty lame
eat this one, too I guess. All his comments on this post are bootlicking ones, lol
apparently, disagreement is "bootlicking" according to Redditors
My most recent reply? Must be a glitch or something, had that happen with someone’s replies to me the other day
Not a troll, just right wing
Naw
No
^ This guy wants to lick the boots instead
Nae
This sub is over
OP, are you one of those 500 people, one of the billionaire chillers or a bot?
basically the plot of Pluribus.. or Westworld
“New post in sub” Looks inside CAPITALIST PROPAGANDA????
Yall have lost the plot
People are just posting anything with depth on here now
I don't know which is funnier, a) That this doesn't belong here, as it's a meme and not a serious or even seemingly deep poat b) The lefties needing to post "true" or "based" every 3 comments c) The people arguing with them
God I love this shitfest of a platform.
They don‘t know the best places. They can go f themselves if they see us this way.
Ok. Anyways I’m going back to my house and my job and proceed to do my daily hobbies.
Posts on this sub rarely ever actually fit the premise. Did everyone at some point just give up, even the mods?
Tbf, many of us are more like blind passengers on the ship.
Jfc some of you lost the plot of this sub
I'm 32 and this is deep
As chronically online as I am, I stg I’ve never seen this.
For people saying it doesn't fit on this sub
Here is the context for why I posted it here
https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/s/BC2NNrLugu
Apologies, if you think I should I have posted it as a screenshot, but the comment won't fit in it
okay that's not fair, the antiwork sub does not speak for the rest of us when we say the ultrawealthy live completely different lives lmao.
This is like if someone said being racist to white people doesn't fix racism, and then everyone's like "yeah that's fair" but then you turn around with "Kanye said that" and now we all have to backpedal and specify.
Normalize not putting obvious jokes in this sub only to farm karma.
This doesn’t belong here because fucking adults have a hard time realizing this.
That's one based 14 y/o
this is literally just true.
Are you disagreeing? Cuz this is true af
Only 20 minutes and the "this is based yo" crowd already out in force. Is it too early on Sunday to play the "Bootlicker" accusation drinking game here?
I like to pretend it’s all 14 y/o agreeing
Bunch of 20 somethings drawing anarchy symbols on their desks.
It's true tho. The working class is enslaved by the capitalist class that is literally a parasite. They only waste and don't give any benefit to society
Except millions of people go to actual resorts every year.
Which the rich own and we have the pleasure of going to one week a year if we’re lucky.
What’s wrong with a vacation?
Ok? It's a resort for the guests not the owners.
yeah but the rich people resort is everything everywhere all the time lmao
The world is your oyster because you're a filthy oyster eating peasant.
My world is a resort because everyone bends over backwards to serve me lest I become a petulant toddler
I gotta say the library does not seem like a rich people resort.
I'm not even saying that's not true. It's just not a resort for rich people. It's for us.
Could a rich person turn it into a resort? Sure. It's still not a resort for rich people.
I don't know how to respond to that. You're technically not wrong but nothing about that adds to the conversation lol.
It breaks the analogy. We can complain about rich people and capitalism all we want without making dumb analogies at the level of a 14 year old.
So your issue is it's not accurate enough?
I mean this is true tho? Economically almost all major countries are K shaped economies with spending being driven by the top 1%. So it's true?
Are self employed people staff?
I'm 30, and this is deep
Lol this post is exactly the point of this sub and all the commenters mad are 14 and think the meme is deep, you can’t make this up 😂😂
