It’s a non issue for the most part in modern aviation, the cockpit stays locked, and two pilots need to be in it at all times for other reasons

The problem is that people who were on the planes had never heard of 9/11 because it hadn't happened yet so they probably thought the terrorists were going to land the plane and demand a ransom or something.
That's exactly what they thought, right up until the plane crashed. Previously, plane hijackings were mostly just for ransom demands. One of the friends of a victim on the first flight said that she called him when the terrorists took over and he tried to reassure her that they would just be flying her to another country to wait for the US to pay the ransom and everything would work out, and joked it would be a mini vacation.

It’s a non issue for the most part in modern aviation, the cockpit stays locked, and two pilots need to be in it at all times for other reasons

One of the friends of a victim on the first flight said that she called him when the terrorists took over and he tried to reassure her that they would just be flying her to another country to wait for the US to pay the ransom and everything would work out, and joked it would be a mini vacation.
