My dad died of ALS and it's a hard thing to watch happen to anyone especially a loved one. He led a life of vice and debauchery, but when he was diagnosed he turned over a new lead and wanted to make amends. I didn't get to meet him really until it took most of him. I was so angry at him my whole life and when I saw him unable to even swallow or lift his arms, it made me pity and want to protect him. I felt like I was the dad watching my own son deteriorate. I really wish he could have made the time for me before hand, I reached out so many times and he was more into drugs and women. I think he knew I forgave him and had love for him. I always worry about leaving my 4 kids in a haunting way like this, but it's not genetic so that's the one good thing about it. Sorry I went on rambling

The ending breaks my heart. I have an unknown autoimmune disease that leaves me bedridden from exhaustion after getting Lyme disease that triggered it. My mother has been so desperate in the past to get me help that we tried treatment in Germany that's illegal in the United States, acupuncture, holistic meds, diet changes, chiropractor, every other bullshit thing you can think of. My mom was so desperate to help me that we did all sorts of pseudoscience things out of desperation. I don't blame the patient (or a parent) at all. The grifters can burn in hell though.
My Dad has a rare autoimmune disease. He gets Monoclonal antibody therapy on the NHS and it's reversed all his symptoms. You might want to look into that.

I have a degenerative genetic connective tissue disease (not progressive like ALS, but it causes my body to essentially worsen over time due to not being able to produce correct collagen, and I’m now at over a dozen orthopedic and spine surgeries!) so I appreciate the desire to just feel relatively “normal” again. He’s praying on literal desperation to line his pockets, which is just abhorrent (to say the least)!
