So many countries just have very weird perceptions of White Women. Nah, people from repressed societies, especially in that part of the world, do not have a concept of 'exotic' sex partners. Like… a person who murders someone might be severely mentally ill or not able to grasp the consequences of their action, or might be aware of them and still choose to follow through with them. Reading local news articles for where you are going will tell you a lot of the people that live there and what kind of things they value. Also looking what people get arrested for and how it’s dealt with will too.
Unfortunately there are a lot of places that treat and view women as second class citizens at best. In no way was this the woman’s fault nor did she deserve it. Traveling alone and being of a different ethnic makeup in a foreign country makes you a target for things whether you’re a man or a woman, but women will usually be targeted more by people like the guy in this video for the things he targeted her for. I know very little about Sri Lanka, but maybe it’s one of those places where you should travel in a small group and not alone it seems.
