Mental health is such a difficult issue to deal with, especially when it comes to criminality. But if you can’t handle the job, you have no business being on the job and if this is how you treat people that you’re paid to serve then you should be facing prison time for assault like this.
That’s the thing. They ARE paid to protect and serve people. It’s just that some of them do it because they know they’ll get away with it 9 times out of 10.
Do not be mistaken. The cop getting arrested here for 6 years was incredibly lucky. Most would just get a slap on the wrist and abuse that wrist slap.
Edit: Apparently, the arrest was under a different charge. Guess that just solidifies my point, huh?
Iirc the victim was already suicidal from the beginning and the cop knew that fact, this was probably his breaking point. That cop should be charged for murder.
Not a lawyer but I did look into it and unfortunately, even if they knew the person was suicidal, even if it's an officer, it doesn't matter legally.
Legally, the officer almost wouldn’t be held responsible for the person’s later suicide, even though the behavior is cruel and unprofessional. In most jurisdictions, causing someone else’s suicide has an extremely high legal threshold:
prosecutors have to show that the person intentionally encouraged or pressured the victim to kill themselves.
that they had a legal duty to protect them from self-harm (i.e. the person was placed under this officer's supervision for suicide watch), like in a custodial situation. A cop slapping and mocking someone in a hospital bed after a suicide attempt is reprehensible, but it doesn’t meet the legal definition of “encouraging suicide,” nor does it show intent.
Courts also tend to treat suicide as an independent act unrelated to cause unless there’s direct coercion involved. In other words, if the cop in the video were yelling and verbally encouraging them to end it or providing resources or instruction in addition to their actions, only then would it would meet that burden of proof to be held responsible.
So while the cop could absolutely face consequences like discipline, suspension, excessive-force complaints, or civil rights violations, the suicide itself would almost never be pinned on them criminally. The only time liability sticks is in rare cases where the official explicitly urges the person to kill themselves. Otherwise, it’s one of those frustrating situations where something can be morally awful without being legally prosecutable.
Morality does not equal legality in this case, unfortunately.
The most they'd be able to get this cop for is unprofessional conduct, excessive force, violating department policy, or civil rights violations. The death itself wouldn't be pinned on him.
Thanks for adding some context because some of the comments saying ‘charge him with murder’ are pretty wild. The cop is an absolute piece of shit, but unless someone is directly forced / coerced into committing suicide then classifying it as ‘murder’ is an absurdly slippery slope that our legal system simply isn’t set up to deal with.
He should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and this type of video should come into consideration when looking at the severity of his sentences / the punishment, but classifying suicide as technical murder isn’t something that we can or should be doing as a society. If you start doing that, then what about someone that bullied him? What about his mother / father who he had a terrible relationship with? What about the guy at the grocery store who yelled at him which turned out to be the final straw for him on the day? (Obviously just hypothetical situations, I don’t know his situation).
There’s a reason we have things like manslaughter, culpable homicide etc.
I'm not saying this in the context of what the law thinks, I'm saying it in an ethics point of view. The world will be a much safer place with a piece of shit like him locked in prison. If my memory serves me right the guy he slapped ended up where he is in the video because of a suicide attempt that was prevented by the police, he was supposedly being 'saved' but clearly they dispatched the wrong kind of cops for that mission.
And for selling narcotics. FBI had him work as an informant to catch the couple who sold him the drugs. He wouldn’t rat on the other Paterson cops though.
The right thing would be a life or death sentence. This man was in the hospital for either a suicide attempt or suicidal ideation, and killed himself shortly after this incident.
That's good however in all reality. We have zero idea of knowing how many more victims there were. We also don't know to what extent his corruption went. This could be the tip of the iceberg for all we know. Cops should be held more accountable and be made an example of as they're the ones supposedly enforcing the law.
That ain’t enough, that’s assault and battery charges, he should server a couple months bare minimum to teach this ass hole a lesson, actually maybe a punishment that fits the crime would be to force him to participate in power slap
That generally happens when the person is alive enough to seek justice for themselves and cop unions can't build a case around it being their word against a body cam.
Which, unfortunately, means very little unless his certification was revoked. Without decertification, an officer fired from one department can simply be hired at another, and it happens all of the time.
But we already know how this plays out. He'll just go to another county and get a job or sign up with ICE. His skill sets are a good fit for the current ICE.
The best they will do is a light slap on the wrist and two weeks suspensions with pay. The police unions will never let this individual lose his job, even if he might be hired elsewhere.
Thanks for this context. Sometimes these comments are like talking to my 12-year-old. Like, why would you not include the actually useful info in a reply; that the 6 years was completely unrelated.
that used to be the case in most prisons at risk prisoners are normally separated like prisoners that hurt or SA children and such. alot of this is due to families suing for there loved ones being killed in prisons and the guards and warden knowing those prisoners will be targeted.
The sentence also included time for stealing drugs, including cocaine and heroine, from crime scenes and selling them.
sentenced to 66 months behind bars this week after pleading guilty to intent to distribute narcotics and deprivation of civil rights under color of law, according to federal prosecutors in Newark.
These two cops responded to a 911 call about the victim's suicide attempt. They met him in the hospital and the cop, who slapped him in the video, also punched him in the waiting room. The victim was in a wheelchair.
The cop who filmed these slaps and lied on his police report was sentenced to six months.
I’m so sick of the slap on the wrists when they should get much harder punishments than citizens. If you hit a cop and I was recording it as a friend we would both be looking at ten years just for that.
So, just want to clear the air here. It's also why so many drug dealers need to get their stomach pumped after getting arrested.
To simplify, drug charges can be broken down to, personal consumption, intent to distribute, and distribution.
Each level carries a longer punishment, and the difference between personal consumption and intent to distribute is quantity. You would have to prove it's for personal consumption (and sharing with friends is distribution). And some drugs, as much as a few grams equals "intent to distribute"
He very well could have just stolen to use, but whatever quantity would classify it as intent to distribute.
It's also why so many drug dealers will eat a bunch of their shit when arrested. Dumb ass myth to try and plead personal consumption instead of distribution. Many lives lost to OD that way.
Fun fact, law enforcement has no legal obligation to protect or serve the common people like you or me or the man in this video. Isn’t that just fantastic?
For anyone unaware or just for those who can't see the evidence clearly enough... The police are not here to protect you. They are here to protect the rich and the ruling class (same shit different toilet, there). They are there to protect them from you. From the people they work into the ground to get fatter off of your back breaking, soul sucking labor.
The former cop was charged and sentenced to 66 months in prison for this and distribution. His partner was charged by I don't recall the sentence.
They went to Andrew's house because he'd attempted suicide, to find he'd already been taken to the hospital. At the hospital, Ruben McAusland (the cop in question) choked and punched Andrew while he was in a wheelchair, and a short time later, put on a pair of gloves and slapped him twice, causing enough damage that Andrew required eye surgery.
Less than two years later, whole waiting for a settlement from this incident, emergency services were called to Andrew's for another suicide attempt. This time he was successful.
Doc here. I don’t allow LEOs in the patient room for this precise reason. They’re allowed to stand guard outside. But they’re absolutely not to go inside the room unless asked. And there’s no need. If you’re afraid of them running off, you can handcuff them to the bed if you absolutely have to.
LEOs in the ER are a nuisance we tolerate. They also don’t seem to understand that they don’t run the show there.
Sad situation for sure! He def got fired and a few years in jail but the man actually committed suicide later on smh pos cops abusing their power as usual!
Feel like he was in there because he tried to kill himself if memory serves…on top of eventually killing himself. Could be wrong, fucked up regardless.
Im fairly certain this person suffered tremendously from the mental trauma this caused and ended up taking his own life. Whatever these cops got is not enough
The cop forgot to provoke a “warranted” excuse to attack the man first, must not have paid attention in training. First you passive aggressively taunt the man, then maybe he sits up, then you can use wrist control or some other means to inflict pain. Once the man has a natural reaction to being hurt and recoils then you can repeatedly yell quit resisting and maybe “he’s reaching for my gun” then you can finally start brutally beating the man. This way you get a couple weeks of paid vacation and a promotion.
He is mentally ill, correct? This is one of my fears. Thank God, cops and medical staff have been predominantly nice to me. But wtf did he do to deserve this type of bs i wonder?
He did nothing to deserve it. He had attempted suicide, and the attack caused an eye injury that required surgery. He's dead now, having committed suicide within a year of this event.
This makes me sick to my stomach and so so so angry. I’ve never agreed more with my user name, all cops are slime and there needs to be such rigorous protocol before someone is handed that power. Absolutely shameful.
Videos like this idk if I should upvote or not..... it feels messed up either way.... is it like saying yes I like this and want more of it? Or not upvoting and the video doesn't get spread around so then people aren't aware of how horrible these people are.... either way I feel horrible for him.

Before arresting him, why can't we afford the victim the same opportunity? A few years in jail is just a slap on the wrist for this kind of brutality. Also, the cop behind the camera should be arrested as well, because he is smiling and does nothing to stop the situation.
His name is PC Rajan Solanki. No longer a PC after being jailed for assault, I imagine. I'm an Indian and I'll say this. Send him back. Don't keep our trash there. There are many decept people that deserve a better life in the west and this clown isn't one of them. He fits right in our indian police force.
Edit: I stand corrected. It was a another guy. It's a fucking shame it happened twice. I stand by what I said about Rajan, though.
The best they will do is a light slap on the wrist and two weeks suspensions with pay. The police unions will never let this individual lose his job, even if he might be hired elsewhere.

This was the most disgraceful thing I’ve seen in a long time. What a POS
Wait till you read what happens after
What happens after?
He killed himself a couple weeks/months/years later. Pretty sure years
Edit: I read he got 6 years and the victim killed himself a year later
Mental health is such a difficult issue to deal with, especially when it comes to criminality. But if you can’t handle the job, you have no business being on the job and if this is how you treat people that you’re paid to serve then you should be facing prison time for assault like this.

They aren't paid to serve & protect people, they're paid to protect capital.

They came from chasing down runaway slaves. Also, ever notice how "to protect and serve" is in quotes.
:(
This man had to get eye surgery because of this attack. And he killed himself. The cop is set to be released in the next year.
What are the names of the cops here?
Ruben Mcausland and Roger Then (the one smiling and filming).
The crazy thing is that Ruben was arrested for drug dealing, and they only found out about the assault when they saw it on his confiscated cellphone.
where is Roger Now ?
He’s Robert Later now.
[removed]
I hope he got his ass beat in there.
Very likely, and these beating there are comparrable to beeing very helpless
Can you tell me the cop's home address? Just curiosity
I hope he doesn’t get a job with Immigration
Future ICE agent -_-
these cops are getting released? man i hope eye for an eye doesn’t happen
He got fired and charged for that
Bare minimum
Especially considering it led to his victims suicide shortly after.

What? Cops legit murder people on the reg and only get suspended with pay while the shooting is “investigated”
Agree. Bear minimum and a couple of rabid honey badgers. 🤝
And for selling narcotics. FBI had him work as an informant to catch the couple who sold him the drugs. He wouldn’t rat on the other Paterson cops though.
rare case of the right thing
More like he only got prison time because he was also caught selling drugs.
He probably had no good(?) background. If his daddy was higher up, he would have been on paid leave.
The right thing would be a life or death sentence. This man was in the hospital for either a suicide attempt or suicidal ideation, and killed himself shortly after this incident.

Not a promotion? Surprising!
Was he rehired a week later?
Was he convicted? What about the other cop standing next to him? He should be fired and convicted as well.
Who was this? I'd like to see if I can learn more.
That ain’t enough, that’s assault and battery charges, he should server a couple months bare minimum to teach this ass hole a lesson, actually maybe a punishment that fits the crime would be to force him to participate in power slap
Transferred more likely
That generally happens when the person is alive enough to seek justice for themselves and cop unions can't build a case around it being their word against a body cam.
Who was it?
I'm stunned.
Slap on wrist
Which, unfortunately, means very little unless his certification was revoked. Without decertification, an officer fired from one department can simply be hired at another, and it happens all of the time.

Thankfully cops are treated terribly in prison, so I hope he got served the fuck up
I bet that doesn't even happen cause they probably separate them. I'd imagine they pit them next to the pedos
that used to be the case in most prisons at risk prisoners are normally separated like prisoners that hurt or SA children and such. alot of this is due to families suing for there loved ones being killed in prisons and the guards and warden knowing those prisoners will be targeted.

Here in the Uk it's horrid. The PSD and IOPC would find a way to either play it down or excuse the officer.
Not all the time, but many occasions when the police should have been punished, even when the public kick off, they've found a way to explain it away.
I’m curious how they defended his actions or what the shit cop said about the situation. How TF did they get to that point? Besides just being a POS
So, just want to clear the air here. It's also why so many drug dealers need to get their stomach pumped after getting arrested.

2 years later. 21 months specifically I think. I know this because this has been reposted many times recently.
Oh my lord
Pretty sure this dude killed himself some time after this
Wrong person killed himself.
Which dude? The cop?
Nah the dude in the cuffs gettin the dog shit beat out of him by the pig
Edit: he’s not in cuffs. It changes nothing.
Well that fucking sucks ass.
They were beating him up because he was suicidal. Pretty sick shit, that is very unfortunately par for the course with these guys
Oh damn, that's fucked up!
He wasn't in cuffs.... he raised both of his hands when the pos was slapping him.
Yes.. the disgusting cop severely abusing a man that was having an emotional crisis
Prolly getting death threats and harassed like crazy from other cops
Is this the protect or the serve part?
Fun fact, law enforcement has no legal obligation to protect or serve the common people like you or me or the man in this video. Isn’t that just fantastic?
I found this out with the school shootings. I believe it was ruled that cops have no legal obligation to protect and serve.
For anyone unaware or just for those who can't see the evidence clearly enough... The police are not here to protect you. They are here to protect the rich and the ruling class (same shit different toilet, there). They are there to protect them from you. I hate this video so much. Knowing how it ends and the fact this poor man took his own life a year or so later. It’s unbearable.
The former cop was charged and sentenced to 66 months in prison for this and distribution. His partner was charged by I don't recall the sentence.

Okay its an awful thing what the cop is doing, genuinely horrible human being.... but like why would you FILM it?!?!
The police force does not hire intelligent people. That's a straight up fact. it's policy
Fucking cunt
How the fuck could anybody enjoy doing this? Truly sick.
This is what they live for and why they become cops.
Sad situation for sure! He def got fired and a few years in jail but the man actually committed suicide later on smh pos cops abusing their power as usual!
Feel like he was in there because he tried to kill himself if memory serves…on top of eventually killing himself. Could be wrong, fucked up regardless.

But slap a cop back and you're looking at at least six months in jail.
And they wonder where terms like pig came from. Hope his ass got swollen when he went to the big house. Mofo!
The cop forgot to provoke a “warranted” excuse to attack the man first, must not have paid attention in training. Crazy how I would get banned for my thoughts on what to do with this cop.
Remember kids cops are not your friends, act accordingly.
The guy was in the hospital because he was suicidal, then some bitch ass cops beats him up.
To absolutely no-ones surprise, he did end his own life shortly afterwards.
Yikes....that looks like 2-3 weeks of paid leave
I sure hope our tax dollars didn’t pay for this cops charges against him….oh wait
“It’s just a small percentage of cops who are bad” as we watch millions of videos and read billions of articles about cops violating our rights
I wish this cop a very miserable and soulless future.
Few things annoy me as much as the corrupt American system. Nothing works no one is held accountable. Yall need a revolution or something
Cop slaps like a bitch lol
I’m sure ICE will gladly hire him
Assuming he’s out of prison now, he’s probably an ICE agent
Back the blue. Amiright?
/s
I just had flashbacks to my father...
Videos like this idk if I should upvote or not..... it feels messed up either way.... is it like saying yes I like this and want more of it? Or not upvoting and the video doesn't get spread around so then people aren't aware of how horrible these people are.... either way I feel horrible for him.
Wow, that is terrible. My goodness.
Gross
Did the other guy say two for flinching??
Must have looked like his wife.
I get that it’s important to show this so people can see what they did but I cannot stand this fukn video, it’s just so fukn cruel & evil it makes my skin crawl.
And if history is any indicator, I would bet they ended up with a PAID slap on the wrist…
cop needs to be in jail.
Pig sluts. Dump em all.
This is not how CPR is supposed to be performed
This makes me so angry. That is someone’s son. Piece of shit animal.
Back the blue amirite.... 💔
1312
Wait so he's locked down in the bed for trying to off himself and the cop does this!?....
And then the cop laughed after beating him and filming it!
Original caption i saw was "cop gets fly off mans face"
Had a paramedic keep slapping my broken wrist for funsies….good times.
Sic Semper Tyrannis.
Absolute fucking swine.
I don't understand why people don't like the police
Nice of the cameraman to willingly incriminate himself.
Piece of shits. Then they wonder 💭
All Cops Are Bastards
ACAB forever
fuck…
It would just be great if cop was in the bed and I was standing next to him
His head turned the wrong way around.
Naw fuck that guy.
Before arresting him, why can't we afford the victim the same opportunity? A few years in jail is just a slap on the wrist for this kind of brutality. Also, the cop behind the camera should be arrested as well, because he is smiling and does nothing to stop the situation.
Yesh im pretty shore that cop sold drugs and he owed him money
You don’t hate dirty cops enough
Too bad this cop didnt get green lit while in prison yet.. pc wankster most likely... fuckin pig
And that’s a charge right there the scumbag
Yeah I grew up here. Mom told me never to call the police for anything because it’ll make things worse.
Hoffentlich hat seine arme Seele frieden gefunden.
Yeah I'm sure that's what they did to that pig's cheeks in prisney land
They probably took his life
This was in Paterson NJ. The cop lost his job, as he should have., and was sentenced to 6 years in prison. He deserved every day of that sentence too.
Where tf was the staff
The best they will do is a light slap on the wrist and two weeks suspensions with pay. The police unions will never let this individual lose his job, even if he might be hired elsewhere.
I would do my best to get as much money as I can outta this
To the gallows
Reminds me of the black guy who got beat to death a year ago or so. Officers filmed that too.
I want that cop [redacted]
In court weeks later:
Cop’s Lawyer: “You see, honorable ladies and gentlemen of the Jury, my client was only doing what the alleged victim asked of him”
Some cops are great but some are just maggots!
Wasn't for laughs, he was asked.
This sub often has “usual suspects” comments in each vid with black people. “Usual suspects” comment feels appropriate here. Haven’t seen any, though.
WHERE WERE THE HOSPITAL STAFF?! Nobody did anything to help him?!
FTP
Hopefully someone helps them go the same route as their victim before they get released
It’s because of cops like him that ACAB exists.

this might fall under nsfw but I'm not rlly sure
The fact that 4 slaps still wasn't enough to knock out a half conscious dude on a hospital bed. What a weak pussy.
Shouldn't break the law
This is torture.
BRO WTF WHY? Why is he actually slapping him??
