It's an image, such as painting, of a person that has distorted features based off racist stereotypes. Either some sort of physical feature or I guess dress is exaggerated with some sort of racist stereotype, such as on old colonial posters depicting foreign ethnicity (foreign to the colonial powers). An example, picking from something that would be less controversial, would be the old Aunt Jemima caricatures that are often used as an example to showcase the prevalence of racism in the US into the 1900s.
"Uncle" was used as a term for older black servants/slaves. Similar to how "boy" was used for young black men. (Calling a black man "boy" would probably be considered racist and offensive by most black men, I think, but it's not like "boy" is a racist word). Couple that with it being a farmer (more subtle ties to slavery).
The idea of a big multinational corporation (with exclusively white directors) constructing a subtly racist character to sell rice doesn't really upset many people, but the big multinational corporation would rather not be associated with anything even a subtle racist stereotype.
They're not trying to "solve racist", but just get rid of a dubious possibly-racist stereotype off their product because they'd really rather not deal with it and want to send a message.
Can’t believe a Scot is being downvoted for not knowing that yanks on the other side of a fucking ocean from him have turned a completely normal word into a racist slur.
What???!!! Why bring sweet Uncle Albert into this? You do understand context right... Right? The commenter above explained the context. So, you now get it right... Right?
Seems like half the worlds population are out there looking to find things to be offended by. As in actively seeking offense, just to be offended by it?
The word uncle, and boy, in my country, in ANY context, are not offensive.
Isn't "uncle" in Asian languages a term of endearment? Line uncle Roger?
the poster that said that uncle Ben has wholly white directors, why does that matter? If they were all black, all yellow, or all blue the green plokadots, would it make a difference?
Racism is the absolute worst, but fear of racism isn't any better.
I've a Pakistani friend, with whom we share some jokes, I jest why there aren't any professional Pakistani footballers, he laughs, he jests that my food is so bland, I laugh, we both laugh.
An outsider looking in would call us "racist" for having a laugh between ourselves.
Racists would say I shouldn't associate with him
Snowflakes would say I'm being racist for treating my friend the same regardless of colour.
The world is fucked chat, and it's the racists AND the do-gooders that are fucking it together.
Uncle Ben's having an all white board is relevant because, unlike with you and your friend, that means they specifically chose the term "Uncle Ben's" while having an older black man as their mascot despite that term being a "insensitive" stereotype and none of them being part of that group.
In the context of your friend group it would be like if some random guy came up to your friend and started making insensitive jokes relating to his ethnicity. The random guy doesn't know him like you do and it's just plain rude. There's no "back and forth" in that scenario and they are being racist Cunt.
Uncle Ben's having an all white board while using a stereotype is like that scenario on a corporate scale.band they are profiting off of very insensitive marketing, and to some may even act as a dog whistle to validate how they act towards people of colour. (In this case the dog whistle is literally a large prolific company run by white people can get away with calling elderly black men Uncle, there fore a racist can also get away with it)
I understand you want to resist being offended. And there's a lot of Scottish stereotypes out there as well that are annoying sometimes. But a lot of these racial stereotypes are used to incite violence and/or discrimination on these people by making them seem "other" and that's why these things that may seem small to you are infact racism. You can resist being offended but when you see other people being mistreated or being portrayed unfavourably (on a corporate or day to day level) your urge shouldn't be to "resist" calling that out because then you are just enabling the behaviour.
Not saying denmark is a racist hell hole and there certainly isn't as much racial tension as in some other countries but a lack of diversity makes it hard to see the racism ingrained in people.
Especially this "haha it's just banter" kind of racism thrives in communities where people don't see the need to call it out, because victims are not usually present, which makes it easy to just chalk it up to harmless humor.
I'm not saying it's not present? There are racists in Denmark, but if Denmark's racist, then almost every country on the planet is, and I'm gonna die on that hill.
Really? You are probably right swedes are seen as woke by Danes, I don't if Finland Norway, Iceland or the fero islands or Greenland are racist but we Danes are known to be rather blunt for better or worse
Danish guy here whith roots in Africa.
Did you just pull this out of your ass?
Do you know about the neo nazis in Sweden's right-wing culture?
Sure there is racism in Denmark, give me a country where there isn't. I'll be getting my black ass over there before you can spell bull shit.
We don't want trouble, but if someone causes trouble.... we don't give a f-ck what you look like, we just want peace and quiet. But will bully a Swedish person just for fun, can't pass up such a good pastime.
Ya basically. Football hooligans that spend their free time making their VW Golf as loud as possible and driving through the streets on their dainty scooters at 2AM on a Wednesday
I’d give my kid a smack for being a racist piece of shit too. Those kids were clearly brought up by shit parents, with a shit educational system. Clearly they don’t understand the power of social media and they missed the entire chapter on “consequences “ it seems. Lol
We've seen a lot more people doing this lately, and we've been kind of test running this ideology as a society for about a decade, maybe more. Can you honestly say it's working? Do you feel kids are better behaved and more respectful and have less behavioral issues? Cause I feel like everywhere I go, I see kids acting like monsters and adults "gentle parenting" the equivalent of a brick wall.
If by a decade you mean 3-4 decades (for my home countries) then yeah. There's enough data now to conclude keeping it legal results in a lot more child abuse (slight majority American children have received corporal punishment before they can even speak and rates of already illegal abuse go down drastically when corporal punishment is made illegal, demonstrating most people aren't able to keep it reasonable ) while there's not been conclusive evidence to suggest it results in increased misbehavior, something that's far more linked with the rise of certain devices and shift in culture and working arrangements.
Kids from middle Eastern backgrounds here tend to have more behavioural problems despite receiving far more corporal punishment at home (of course they can deported for it, but requires someone to report it), just to give you an example of why it can't necessarily be ascribed to that.
This made headlines in Denmark. Most sports fans remember this situation. Douchebags were identified and banned from MCH Arena, the home turf of FC Midtjylland.
Streamer was a fan of their South Korean player, Cho Gue Sung. Lots of South Koreans traveled to Herning to watch him play.
I see a lot of hateful comments towards Denmark here, bordering what's allowed on Reddit afaik.
There are idiots everywhere. Also in Denmark, but claiming we are a racist country and a terrible people and what-not is downright insane. Wow.
Was thinking the exact same. Where does this come from? From people that don't know shit about Denmark? Denmark ain't more racist than any other country. I'd rather say the other way around. You don't find many countries where empathy for others are as valued as in Denmark. A human life is much more worth in Denmark than in so many poorer countries with much bigger populations. It's my understanding that most people are educated well enough to not be primitive as it is to be racist. People should go to Copenhagen and take a look if they believe Denmark isn't diverse...
But its easy to be a keyboardwarrior and think shit after seeing 1 video.. Was honestly expecting more from the reddit community...
Tbh this was exactly what i expected from outer left Reddit. If it's a western country, racism is fair game. They lack the comparison between east and west.
Because human rights dont mean shit out east, what they do and their racism is downplayed.

Then you need to work on your grammar. I am going to assume you meant to state that you do not want to condone the behaviour showcased by the individuals in the video and that you also see a problem with filming people in public. The manner in which you stated those two thoughts makes it sound as if one action is the result of another and justified to any extent as a result. However, reading how you have responded like a jerk to all 3 replies on your comment I naturally have my doubts that you do not view it as a valid justification.
Fair comment. I probably could have worded that better. And yes you can see what I meant. I wrote a quick comment and didn’t pot much thought into it…
As for responding to the other people, I wasn’t on the mood to engage at any depth with them. Particularly because I wasn’t arsed trying to explain what I meant like you have. And that one guy did get super triggered so…
For clarity, I do not view it as justification. I do not condone their behaviour. Nor do I condone streamers putting people on camera in the background of their streams.
Maybe they turns the camera on AFTER the racists started it? OR OR HEAR ME OUT! How about people stop the racism apologia? OR BETTER YET how about people stop being racists in the first place!?

Wait till you find out about Di Canio
Denmark famously seen by the nordics as the most racist of them.
Is it really? I heard that some of the widely available grocery items used to have racist caricatures on them until very recently.
Fuck it, I'm going to ask.
What's a racist caricature?
It's an image, such as painting, of a person that has distorted features based off racist stereotypes. Either some sort of physical feature or I guess dress is exaggerated with some sort of racist stereotype, such as on old colonial posters depicting foreign ethnicity (foreign to the colonial powers). An example, picking from something that would be less controversial, would be the old Aunt Jemima caricatures that are often used as an example to showcase the prevalence of racism in the US into the 1900s.
But by definition, racist wouldn't work in this scenario.
There was a character in marmalade we used to get here, a cute wee character, that had to be removed as it was insensitive, but it wasn't racist.
Insensitive is maybe the word. Racist? I'm not so sure.
Uncle Ben's rice had it's name changed here, because of "racism". I'd honestly never heard of the word "uncle" being racist before?
"Uncle" was used as a term for older black servants/slaves. Similar to how "boy" was used for young black men. (Calling a black man "boy" would probably be considered racist and offensive by most black men, I think, but it's not like "boy" is a racist word). Think of the old school mickey mouse cartoons with the depictions of black people
The uk would use the golliwog character in advertising until the 80s
Yep. Many people don't realize that Denmark is one of the least racially diverse countries in the world, which can lead to some pretty bad racism.
Denmark isnt racist. Especially not compared to loads of East European, Asian and MENAP countries. And the US .

You're going to die on a hill that wasn't even made. You're going to die on a mole hill, and not a mountain.
Considering the amount of downvotes i got, you're absolutely wrong :).
Racism is okay, as long as it's against Norther Europeans, according to some, clearly.
That's like being the toughest kid at preschool. You're still pretty weak.
Really? You are probably right swedes are seen as woke by Danes, I don't if Finland Norway, Iceland or the fero islands or Greenland are racist but we Danes are known to be rather blunt for better or worse

They’re just showing off to their mates, looking for approval and validation they clearly never had from their parents. That and they’re cunts.
Dane here this footage is old as fk, and the idiot deserves a beating, i believe they were banned from the football club, after this.
May his ass itch forever, he is not one of us.
Yeah I used to live in DK, vast majority are not like this. Went to a DK Sweden match once though, that was next level hate

Careful, my comment was removed by reddit because apparently I was promoting violence.
Hitting your child will only make it behave worse. That's why it's illegal - causes more harm than good, but cool that you're a badass.

Yeah same here, I'd also be confused how I got a son
Best way is to integrate them with people, travelling works!
Maybe just raise him right in the first place. Hitting kids is for losser parents who have failed at raising their children.
this is exactly how hindley in Wuthering Heights was treated and he still grew up to be a massive racist except now he has father issues too
im just saying maybe actually try to raise your kids right in the first place?
I don't ever plan on having children but if I did and my son did THIS? Nah im smacking him on the back of the head and lecturing the mother fucker.
But then maybe your attitude caused the issue in the first place?
How would that cause someone to be a racist piece of shit?
Not teach them consequences of their action is the one that caused the issue in the first place

Funnily Danish people are made fun of in other Scandinavian countries for their quirks and language.
Not to mention their neighbors- the Germans also think they're weird
I guess it's fun for trying not to be the butt of the joke for once

Think Denmark is famous for it though
Think or know?
For the opposite if you look into it, but who cares about facts?
Based on what? They're known for having stricter immigration laws, but that's nothing to do with racism
They are not. Danes are famously inclusive and friendly people.
Lived in Denmark, I can without a doubt tell you, you are wrong 🤣 they are famously known for hypocrisy. Beautiful country though.
For no reason however.
"group of men". HAH! Not. Even. Close.
We do not claim Danish football fans.
The usual suspects...
Ah yes, combatting racism with more racism, the true path forward in the world
They fit the stereotype
I mean Koreans having to deal with racism is kind of funny to me. It had to be one of the most blatantly racist countries I've ever been too. Those are not men. Those are boys.
Spent 2 month in japan a year ago and that was something that shocked me. The blatant racism to south Koreans.
Wait I thought Europe was “enlightened”. Was I wrong?
Oh come on.. no country or state is a homogeneous thought bubble. There are going to be divergences of opinions about everything.
I lived in Eastern Europe for around a year. In my one year I encountered dozens of racist events, with some ending up with someone putting their hands on me.

Alan Baunsbøl is a good example
Are those guys Europe?
Yea you were totally wrong because you saw one video of a handful of Danish morons..

Only to American liberals

No it's not.
i’m 19 and every school i have been in racism at least as a joke has been there at every single one
If that's your basis, then it's common in every single country.
That’s great they’re all going viral for being racist….
Talk about living rent free in someone's head.
As a Dane dating an Asian guy, please know that we are not all like this. My boyfriend had to hold me back once because I got pissed off after someone called him “Jackie chan”. Racism has no place in my Denmark.
As a Dane, I can only say fuck that guy. I’m sorry you had to encounter him
Definitely not visiting there!
Saying that denmark is a racist country is like saying water is wet. They're so racist that they don't even realize they're being racist lol.
Why are Danes racist
Fuck that idiot, that’s not what most of Denmark is like.

It's almost as if there are bad people everywhere 🤔
I get this. This isn't news. What I was not in the know about was what form or the details to the racism. But yes. Bad people are indeed everywhere.
oh yeah, from australia and can confirm the racism is deep rooted here
This video made headlines in Denmark.

Yeah i agree. Let them be racist with the cameras off.
Not what I meant but cool
I dont think the camera is making them act this way, and you're in a public space. You shouldn't expect total privacy.
If being filmed in a public space makes you act racist then you are still just a racist.
Not what I said guy.
