I literally created the sign in the garage minutes before leaving to the protest.
The younger generation didn’t get it at all… everyone old enough to remember Zindler, loved it.
I can still hear it in my head. Legend but Mattress Mack is the real Houston legend and hero. That man has done so much for the city and the people of Houston.
So can I. I spent a few weeks in Houston (okay, southwestern 'burbs,) in '95, and remember his clips on the news. That white hair, blue glasses and phrasing still sticks with me 30 years later.
If you only spent a few weeks here and he had that impact, imagine those of us that lived here!
When I was in 4th grade, my teacher was dating the weatherman there (they later married <3). For our school silent auction that year, she donated a tour of the news station and to watch it live from the set. My best friend a I won! Well, our parents bid together and won.
It was fucking awesome to see! Imagine being 10 years old and getting to see Marvin Zindler say "Slime in the ice machine" live?!?! That was something I watched every night with my parents. Damn, I miss those times.
Oh, absolutely NO argument here! He was very distinctive. You never forget that kind of personality.
Come to think of it, one of the gents I worked claimed to be also associated with the folks who did the Slime! in the ice machine! rap track. Haven't talked to him since my last work trip to Houston.
Y'all I'm starting to get tears in my eyes, thinking back and seeing how much time has passed and thinking of all my good times, friends, drugs, parties, and the few friends I still have living from that time. God I'd pay more attention if I could do it all over again.
It's weird what can stick. I was visiting my grandparents in the UK many years back, and we'd watch this Australian soap opera, "Neighbours." I don't know if my grandparent(s) actually watched it or if it just tended to come on after something else we'd watch...anyway, I was probably visiting for like a couple weeks at that time. I'd never seen the show before and haven't seen it since. I still kind of remember the theme song.
I almost hate to say this because I think Ai will be the death of humanity but I would like to see someone make an Ai Marvin Zinder reporting on modern corruption
Back in the day, ABC news in Houston had a news anchor/investigator named Marvin Zindler who did restaurant health checks and that was his go to slogan. "There sliiiime in the ice machine". That couldn't be more true today!
All right that's pretty funny even though I think enforcing federal law is okay that's pretty funny and I don't like the way it's being done. It seems kind of Gestapo to me
We need more ice in texas 😁 too many immigrants and not just Mexican folks but all the others who come in from the Mexico border.. too many Indians, Pakistanis, too many everything that isn't American
A local TV personality, Marvin Zindler, was very over the top and his signature segment was exposing Houston restaurants that failed health inspections, including, most famously, where slime was discovered in the ice machine.
Of course. We don’t want the administration recruiting white supremacists to cosplay as military terror squads going around scaring the shot out of people and mirdering citizens.
Our borders actually work better when they're more open. Migrant workers could come up from Mexico, do the seasonal work, and then GO HOME. They don't WANT to stay here. And then there would be more money in Mexico, would mean less crime and a higher standard of living, which would in turn also discourage emigration to the US.
The only reason the border is closed is so Republicans can shriek about "illegal immigration", which keeps the racists riled and donating campaign funds.
The bigger picture is that ICE is following the orders of that one big ugly Cheeto in DC…should be more like “There’s slime in a White House located in DC”.
But you’re on every protest post that stays on this sub. Every single one. With multiple comment threads and arguments with everyone. You’re not impressed but you’re pressed af.
I mean less than 24 hrs ago, on this very thread, some motherfuckung morons were arguing that the protesters were provided with professionally-printed signs
I'm really tired of protesters. I'm tired of their stupidity. When their savior Obama used ICE to deport people illegally in the US, not one peep from these spineless snails. They fight Trump for the past ten YEARS, and have proven NOTHING. ZILCH, NADA!!!! They support lawlessness, murders, drug cartels, socialist, communist and corruption. In my opinion I think it's time to take the gloves off and start arresting them and throwing the law at them without mercy, just like they do with people that don't AGREE with them.
So we should let anybody come here that wants too? We can’t just wander into any country we want. Immigration laws need to be followed. Perhaps do something about the real problem. Why are so many people coming here in the first place?
Let me make a very clear distinction here. These protests are not necessarily about opposing immigration laws themselves, but about opposing the cruelty, excessive force, and incompetence used in enforcing them. It is reasonable, and necessary, to be concerned when enforcement is carried out by agents who appear insufficiently trained in de-escalation while carrying weapons capable of ending a life in seconds. That imbalance creates fear, not safety since they are obviously in a position of power over the average person.
If an official with a gun tells me to do something I will shut my mouth and do it. Then there is no argument. Too many people want to scream and cry. If they know officials have no power they will not comply.
What if you comply and they still act violently toward you? What if you’re at a stop light and you get surrounded by 3 black SUVs and next thing you know, armed men come out and they’re yelling at you, pointing a weapon in your face demanding you step out your vehicle because they think you may be undocumented and since you’re not carrying your passport or whatever, decide to arrest you because you couldn’t prove to them you were a citizen right then and there? How do you know those armed men are actual law enforcement and not a group of impersonators attempting to kidnap you even if you comply?
Biden and Obama did millions of deportations yet, we didn’t hear any of the violence or scandal/drama regarding those. These sort of things have been sensationalized to a disturbing degree. I understand immigration law is important to uphold but I don’t agree with these callous open displays of violence in our communities or daycare/schools.
It's so funny, people like you screams "but my freedom!" All day long, then bend over and takes it up the ass when the Republican government shoves a giant dildo up your ass, then begs for more, lol.
Not as delusional as thinking Abbott or Cruz ever cared to do something regarding the Texan lives lost during the Central Texas Floods last year or the Freeze of 2021.
They could’ve at least pretended to care. They’re elected officials for a reason, it’s their job to be able to do something about the infrastructure in this state to prevent further tragedy.
Tragedy happens everyday. If we were all psychic we'd all be rich. I have a feeling you blame Abbott and Cruz because they have a (R) beside their name. Explain the Tragedy that Biden (D) and Harris (D) had CREATED!!!
True, but the death toll of those events could’ve been lower if they had done something about making sure Texas can withstand those natural weather events (other states have more severe weather and nowhere near the casualties we had here). I don’t have political loyalty to any party or politician. I didn’t like Biden or Harris either, but regardless of what party our politicians belong to, they need to be held accountable for putting the wellbeing of the people first.
Love it! Very Houston specific.
Tell me you’re from Houston without telling me… 😂 love this!!!

Good golf, good tennis, or whatEVER makes you happy right before that.
And his other catch phrase: “It’s HELL to be poor!” which this admin relishes.
I almost hate to say this because I think Ai will be the death of humanity but I would like to see someone make an Ai Marvin Zinder reporting on modern corruption
Thank you, Marvin.
And NOWWWWWW for the BIG BIG BIG BIG S
I moved away from Houston as a kid 25 years ago and I can still hear him clear as a bell in my head lol
What a legend.
With that silver mop on his head!
Marvin Zindler would never allow ice to get out of hand like this!
Thats how you know you’re part of the Houston Elite. What a larger than life character that man had, an Elvis-like quality it seemed like

I saw a woman wearing a shirt that said “ICE can gargle my balls,” but I didn’t get a pic.
Most do play sports. Point made point taken.

Exquisite. Zero notes.
How do we find out about more protests? I didn’t even know it happened
Mobilize is a website where organizers post a lot of the protests and events! There’s a map feature where you can see what’s happening near you.
Who’s been sliming the Ice Machine guys?
Back in the day, ABC news in Houston had a news anchor/investigator named Marvin Zindler who did restaurant health checks and that was his go to slogan. "There sliiiime in the ice machine". That couldn't be more true today!
Even had a little jingle that went with it. You know he's the one that exposed the chicken ranch or the whore house.
ZzTop has a song dedicated to it called Lagrange.
GOOD GOLF, GOOD TENNIS, OR WHATEVER MAKES YOU HAPPY
Incase anyone was curious Marvin Zinder was consistently tough and outspoken against illegal immigration.
He was also against the chicken ranch.
Eye Witness Neeews!
Exactly, what was his name?
Nevermind I saw it in the very next post.
And thats true in every aspect of life. How many shitty people have ever worked with?
All right that's pretty funny even though I think enforcing federal law is okay that's pretty funny and I don't like the way it's being done. It seems kind of Gestapo to me
What was his name? Melvin P Thorpe in the Best Little Whitehouse in Texas but he was the old guy that did slime in the ice machine on 13 news.
We need more ice in texas 😁 too many immigrants and not just Mexican folks but all the others who come in from the Mexico border.. too many Indians, Pakistanis, too many everything that isn't American
And now and now and now for the big big big Big Big BIG S. What did we have? All together gang!

A local TV personality, Marvin Zindler, was very over the top and his signature segment was exposing Houston restaurants that failed health inspections, including, most famously, where slime was discovered in the ice machine.

If you're under the age of 30 you probably never heard of "MARVIN ZINDLER, EYEWITNESS NEWS!".
Thank ya Marvin is all the other anchors would say. I think they hated him.
Well, just not a Stuart of tv history. Or you may not be as old as the rest of us.
just youthful
frozen swamp water
Hell yeah
Marvin Zindler would agree.
Clever
Fuck ice
What do y’all really want? ICE is definitely going nuts but we still have to have border laws and deportations right?
Both Obama and Biden have deported more people than Trump. Trump just does it with even more cruelty.
Obama was even called the deporter in cheif
Of course. We don’t want the administration recruiting white supremacists to cosplay as military terror squads going around scaring the shot out of people and mirdering citizens.

Nuremberg defense
Brings me back to the ole St.Danes days
I disagree politically, but that's smart, and clever, and funny. Twelve points Gryffindor.
I think you protesters have your heads so far up your asses you don't what smell what shit smells like.
Why? Do you disagree with all protest? Or just these?
Incredible lmao
so brave 👏
Just a couple dozen WHITE people.
Were you there?
A BOP
90% of this thread is about Marvin Zindler...sounds about right for Houston.
When it gets to more people than just a small crowd to do protest , I'll take notice
So clever so brave are the unemployed
When those of us that have decent jobs are employed, we get what’s called paid personal time off. Here’s a Wikipedia link to help:

How many rubles you making these days?
Let’s go yell at the sky
Looks like a small crowd

I’m not impressed
But you’re on every protest post that stays on this sub. Every single one. With multiple comment threads and arguments with everyone. You’re not impressed but you’re pressed af.
[deleted]
Just poking it a little. A tiny bit. But you’re right. I muted them after this cause their bs is ridiculous
Good because nobody’s there to impress you. There are actual important things happening in this country right now, ya know?
Sorry they’re not beating up cops and breaking windows and doors. These aren’t republican protestors at the Capitol
Hello not impressed
Quiet, piggy.
Never
you should see the Charlie Kirk protests, oh wait lol.
Not a person under 60 there
Were you there?
ah yes, from the professional sign industry...
What?
my god you people can't spot sarcasm even with a fucking ellipsis?
I'll have you know that I haven't voted down on you yet, because I genuinely cannot tell what you mean.
I mean less than 24 hrs ago, on this very thread, some motherfuckung morons were arguing that the protesters were provided with professionally-printed signs
hence my questions about the goddamn ellipsis and first time
and they know because "distant relatives" who profit from it...
Got it. wow.
Old Reddit could, but that was a very different political time, too ):
😂😂😂
Drove by and saw that tiny group of people. If you hate ice, Texas probably isn’t the place for yall.
Yes, Texas is home of the performative Gadsden Flag on the back bumper of the spotless F-350 while the owner begs "tread harder, daddy Trump".
I'm really tired of protesters. I'm tired of their stupidity. When their savior Obama used ICE to deport people illegally in the US, not one peep from these spineless snails. Keep crying, see you at mid terms
People with your viewpoints are the minority in Houston.

Someone wearing a mask who will not identify themselves is not an “official.” We’re pretty hardwired to be scared AF of masked people with guns.
how do i know they're an official? They got no badge, no id, wears masks, drives around in rental cars. There's no way to know if they're officials.
They got guns? People disobey, holler and scream and get shot. Happens often, yet people want to act surprised and shocked every time.
lol, since when is holler and scream breaking the law? Get real bud, it's freedom of speech, baby!
Seems fairly often people get shot arguing with cops. Comes a time when you should have a brain and shut your mouth. Why fight a loosing battle?
It's so funny, people like you screams "but my freedom!" All day long, then bend over and takes it up the ass when the Republican government shoves a giant dildo up your ass, then begs for more, lol.
Dream on
Not dreaming. Just speaking truth, especially as a Gen Z. You’re better off living in countryside Texas with these views.
Your delusional
Not as delusional as thinking Abbott or Cruz ever cared to do something regarding the Texan lives lost during the Central Texas Floods last year or the Freeze of 2021.
Did you expect them to control the weather???
They could’ve at least pretended to care. They’re elected officials for a reason, it’s their job to be able to do something about the infrastructure in this state to prevent further tragedy.
