MARK MY WORDS, THIS DRILL WILL OPEN A HOLE IN THE UNIVERSE. AND THAT HOLE WILL BE A PATH FOR THOSE BEHIND US. THE DREAMS OF THOSE WHO'VE FALLEN, THE HOPES OF THOSE WHO WILL FOLLOW. THOSE TWO SETS OF DREAMS WEAVED TOGETHER INTO A DOUBLE HELIX, DRILLING A PATH TOWARDS TOMORROW. AND THAT'S TENGEN TOPPA. THAT'S GURREN LAGANN. MY DRILL IS THE DRILL THAT CREATES THE HEAVENS!
I’m not really like minded with them though. The only binding I have with them is blood and it causes them to feel entitled to my own labor. I don’t agree with their dreams, the world and life they desire and have found are unappealing to me.
Of course I’d like to be around people who share my vision. But I’m not, so I create my path anew miles away from others that might. I’ll find my people eventually.
Chances are pretty high that whatever your hopes and dreams turn out to be you will help someone else from history achieve theirs. And that chance should give you strength to keep on fighting.
We all die. Does that mean our lives are meaningless? Does that mean that there was no point in being born? Would you say that of our slain comrades? What about their lives? Were they meaningless? They were not. Their memory serves an example to us all the greatest, the anguished father. Their lives have meaning because we the living refused to forget them. And as we ride to certain death, we trust our successors to do the same for us. Because my soldiers do not buckle our yield. When faced with a gorilla to be of this world, my soldiers pushed forward. My soldiers scream out. My soldiers rage. ~ Erwin Smith
We can learn from those that came before us but we shouldn't act like everyone who came before us is a saint, we improve with each generation, year, day, but that also means the legacies people left might be wrong to uphold. Just like the legacies of abuse older generations practiced weren't carried forward by their kids we can't let pretty words like "sacred duty", blind us, learn from them what works, avoid what doesn't.
That is the nature of growth, since I was born many people have escaped poverty and I will not respect the legacy that put them into it in the first place, the will we carry on is ours to choose, not given to us by birth or legacy.
I think what OP is getting at with this post is less "do-what-your-ancestors-want", and more along the lines of persevering in your own hopes and dreams, inspired by the deceased people who dreamt the same as you, related to you or not.
For example, university was very difficult for me, but I persevered because people from my region didn't really have access to higher education for a very long time (most of my older family are functionally illiterate), and also for every woman who had a brilliant mind but her potential was crushed by society not seeing the value of women's intelligence. They hoped and dreamed just like me, and I wanted to carry that with me.
Do whatever you want in this life, do not let social/ancestral pressures dictate what you do, but if you want to, think of all the people who'd be so excited for you because you're doing what they never got the chance to do. You don't have to have known them, they even can be an abstract concept if you like.
Dang, this really is an emotional, satisfying build up the captures both the sense of hope and support from others that the franchise has aswell as the wonder of how ancient Chinese culture saw the idea of energy and the beauty in the world...cool

Okay sure but I will never be obligated to carry out their will entirely because they died before they did what they wanted to do.
My life is mine. I will forge my own hopes and dreams greater and brighter than those before.
their hopes and dreams may inspire the living with their own version of hopes and dreams
beside, don't you wanna have like minded individuals to carry dream together despite some of the bearers died?

You think you are not like minded with everyone who ever lived before? You are not obliged to think your relatives are only dead people who matter

For those who come after
Respect your elders! They know more than you see!
Only if they respect me back

You are on hopeposting, at least try to be positive and not bring politics into every single discussion
True
I think young people have an invaluable perspective too
Did someone say Hopes and Dreams?
See you tomorrow
