I've played Japan quite a few times since the release of the new DLC, but I haven't gone with Yamamoto's Premiership yet.
In all of my historical runs, Yamamoto died in April 1943.
Can anyone who has already played Japan with Yamamoto as PM confirm whether or not he still dies?

Is there a way to save him?
Yes, take the air focus Sturdier Aircraft. The prerequisite focus requires you to be at war, so you'll need to take it while at war with China.
It takes an air focus? So like Roman School of Aviation with Italo Balbo? Creative Paradox, creative xD
Funnily enough, saving Rudolf Hess is also done through a focus.
But at least that dude does it himself
Wait, how?
You have to do the Rudolf Hess Führerprinzip focus with enough time for one of the following focuses (I forgot which one) to autocomplete before Hess goes on his silly little adventure to the Scotland.
The first time I heart of that story I thought for sure it was made up. Such a bizarre little side story for the war.
Take Hess as your first Reichsleiter and let him complete Rally the Industrialists before you start the war.
Honestly he's a great starter for the PP and MIO buffs anyway.
Thats the focus that saves him? Then what does that focus in the historical counterintelligence branch do? (The one that has a vague description about decreasing enemy operative chances), I thought for sure that must be the focus that saves Yamamoto because it was due to Intel leaks/decrypted ciphers that the US was able to set up an assassination mission on him.
I took the focus, long range escorts, and that’s what saved him in my game yesterday. There’s an event where the escorts come and save him.
Do you mean Long Operational Range? That focus seems far better suited to Japan. It doesn't have the same focus description saying it saved historical characters though.
I'm not entirely sure, as I've yet to do an ahistorical run. I am, however, certain that he dies in April 1943 when playing historically.
However, the reason why Yamamoto died in the first place is because he was intercepted by American fighters while on a trip to the frontlines. I am going to assume that he doesn't die if Japan doesn't enter the war with the US in the first place.
I hope there is a way like sending some escorts or something
There is a focus for tightened air safety regulations or better materials or something to that effect. If you take that focus before the war with the US, Yamamoto will survive.
I did a world conquest as kohdoa imperial way Japan and it was late 1944 when the usa declared war on me and I still eventually got the event that Yamamoto died so its tied to the focus and being at war with the usa.
That makes sense as he was shot down by American aircraft.
I haven't done the events to save him but I imagine the "sturdier aircraft frame" focus means he still gets shot down while at war with the US but he survives the crash because of the new air frames.
I played historical Japan several times and did not take the sturdier aircraft focus. Despite that, the American effort to shoot down Yamamoto has practically failed every time.
Same here (even if they only got to try once, and the event fired while I was reaching California from having invaded through the north.)
Im curious, if Yamamoto dies as PM who succeeds him?
It's impossible since the game made sure to never let the event fire If he's PM
now i wonder if you can even take the focus if he already died
If he's already dead then it's just blocked
Amogasu Imposteru
I've had him die and still remain the Admiral of the Naval HQ. Its a bit buggy to say the least.
That's just Zombie Yamamoto. He's just doing his duty.
His influence was so strong that even in death he commands the ships
That's my experience as well. Lol
When he dies, it removes him from the fleet he's commanding, but not the naval HQ, which is excellent because he's easily the best carrier admiral in the IJN.
I am playing historical Japan. I purged the Kodoha Faction, then went to war with China and won in 1940. I am gearing up for war with the Allies, since I did "Strengthen USA 100%" before starting the game.
I am supposed to pick between Tojo, Yamamoto, and Hirohito. I've yet to go with Yamamoto, because I'm concerned that he will still die anyway and I will have to pick a successor.
Don't worry, he gets an invincibility shield once he becomes PM
I currently have a historical Japan run where it’s the 1950’s and he’s still alive as leader of Japan. So I suppose he survives in that case
take Hideki Tojo next time
He won’t die if you’re not at war with the Allies
