Jarry comes out to poke the puck away from Josi, but it goes right Skjei who gets it back to Josi who puts it in from a sharp angle for the OT winner

Nashville beat Edmonton? Is that allowed?

    I thought Draisaitl banned that

Yes, but Draisaitl still got 3 points (1g, 2a).

Hockey gods looking down on Nashville tonight.

Oilers with Draisaitl and wearing their alternates they hadn’t lost a game in and Nashville still prevailed

    parent root
    28 points Mediocre-Wafer-5176

Wait are we their first loss in the alternates?? That almost makes up for giving chicagos 3rd string goalie his first win and a shut out. Balance or some shit

Yup, first loss in the creams. We certainly didn't cream ourselves this evening, as it were.

    parent
    194 points DOITLIKEBRUTUS

Stayed out extra long for offense in OT and turned the puck over, leading to a goal the other way. An OT loss story as old as time hockey.

    parent root
    64 points krajani786

They did lose the zone and had the chance to change, but did not. Jarry came out to play the puck and Drai was already turning around to go back for another rush leaving his man. Bouchard maybe made the right play going in net.. and then not sure what his thought was.

Could Jarry have left it and played the breakaway.... yeah but i don't fault his decision on that. The need for this team to make the weakest 2 foot pass, spin-o-rama pass, drop pass to no one, blind pass at the end of a shift, is insanely high.

    parent root
    12 points Meepmeepimmajeep2789

As the youth say, farming aura

    parent root
    7 points vanillaacid

Jarry made the smart play, just a bad bounce. No fault to him.

Bouch played it well enough, he knew it could be dicey so covered the net. He's just not a goalie. Can't fault him either.

Drai was lazy (tired). Gave up skating, should have covered his man. Could have stole the puck after the bounce, or at least prevented the pass. Heavily at fault here.

McDavid wasn't directly involved, but he didn't exactly rush to get back. Probably tired, did he go off for a change? Can't fault him off the clip alone, not sure what was going on prior to, or behind the camera.

TL;DR - Drai gave up, he should have been able to prevent this.

    Ah well, moving on.

    parent root
    3 points krajani786

Bit Mcdavid came out of the zone before that last play, they were already put for a minute. That's the time to change, Nashville did with the closer box, I think they got 1 player swapped maybe 2. Mcdavid went and attacked instead of hanging back and letting the change happen.

    And yes Drai was lazy.

    parent root
    2 points WorkingOnBeingBettr

    Why not jump on it?

    parent root
    2 points krajani786

That far out of his crease, it would be delay of game.

    parent root
    2 points WorkingOnBeingBettr

I would take the penalty vs a goal, but maybe that's just me. Or maybe a big dive to interfere with the other player but that has a much higher chance of injury and I get why he didn't do it. He did a pretty good job, just bad luck and poor back-checking. Not his fault in the end.

    parent root
    2 points krajani786

No not his fault. He could have also saved the shot. The thought process was probably to hit the puck and have an odd man break the other way. The main issue is a line who was put for 1:55 and then failed.

    parent root
    78 points Razzers

So, Brunnette has decided running to 2 defensemen in 3v3 OT is a thing he's doing now.

    parent
    17 points President-Allison

They talked about this a little on stream. It’s two defenders primarily off the face off until they establish puck possession. I honestly don’t mind that mentality especially against a team with two top five players in the NHL.

    parent root

    parent root
    8 points rickayyy

The Preds run a PK with 3 defensemen?

    parent root
    17 points catsgr8rthanspoonies

Blankenburg acts as a forward when there's three defensemen out there. You probably wouldn't notice it unless you know the Preds roster. They haven't run it as often since Smith returned, but there have been PKs where Blankenburg will take as a shift as a forward and another shift as a defensemen on the same PK.

    parent root
    0 points gratefulpred

Did you see who Edmontons 3 were? They rolled out McDavid, Draisaitl and Bouchard to start.. not the worst move when you have a hot Roman josi out there as one of the dmen

    parent root
    1 points catsgr8rthanspoonies

Blankenburg deserves a lot of credit in OT. He hopped off and Skjei replaced him just before this. He was glued to McDavid in the d zone. McDavid kept trying to skate through him, but Blankenburg matched McDavid’s every step.

    parent root
  • 142 points Samthevidg

Quoting what I said in the Oilers GDT:

Jarry absolutely made the right move and successfully executed it. It was a complete defensive blunder by Bouch as Jarry had the slot angled covered even while backing up. Bouch proceeded to sit in the crease as Jarry backed up, not covering Josi and just sat behind Jarry.

Bouchard really could have gone out and challenged Josi, who already had a moderately difficult shot to make, and cut off more potential angles. Ultimately the fault of the play lies on McDrai for not trying to change after being on the ice playing keep-away for >2 mins.

    parent
    58 points Tacosrule89

I agree 100%. Complete lack of awareness by Bouchard to let guys behind him to allow the flip play. And then covers no one and doesn’t block the puck after Jarry goes for a 50/50 play

    parent root
    14 points monka_giga

Just a classic Oilers defense playing a little prank on the tendy, Bouchard should start a YouTube channel with all the pranks he pulls

    parent root
    6 points Colyer

The fault actually lies on Jack and Louie for saying that McDrai never get tired and making fun of Nashville for changing their stars too early. They brought this on all of us.

    parent root

There isn’t even a narrative here. Jarry played fine tonight. Everyone clowning on him is doing it cause they love to clown the oilers. If he doesn’t play as well as he did in the third we don’t even get a point. This thread is literally just a dunk on Edmonton thread. He stops the initial breakaway. If our star 3 weren’t out for half the OT they would have gotten back to help him and there’s no goal here. This thread is dumb.

Willy and Mace have been at it together for a while now. People hate on Mason because he can be corny as shit, but I kinda find it wholesome and he adds player perspective. Lots of people coming to Jarry's defense in our subreddit, I dunno. He could've done far better there, that's a big risk to take given the circumstances. Feel like you really need to be sure you're gonna be able to play that puck properly to come out that far.

And, yes, maybe he gets scored on anyways. But he had a better chance of preventing it if he'd just stayed in goal.

And remember, he did win the race and play the puck. He didn't get as far as he wanted and another Pred picked it up, but I think the decision making was sound.

I’d say it’s 50/50 for Jarry. You either take a breakaway or you play the puck. He prevented the breakaway but our guys gave up skating and didn’t get to the puck before the Preds.

If we aren’t coasting back we would actually have either beat them to the puck or been in position to battle for the puck giving time for Jarry to return to the net.

    13 points Geralt-of-Rivai

He won the race, he reached the puck first. It just got deflected to a bad spot after then no help from team

    parent root
    2 points BigTreeSmallBranch

He’s been fine for us, but tonight he was not (except a couple huge saves)

    parent root
    8 points Geralt-of-Rivai

First game back after injury. He was better in the second half of the game. He'll come back stronger

    parent root
    9 points lookitsjustin

He's been okay, not really any better or worse than Skinner was playing for us.

    parent root
    1 points SapphicProse

Skinner would have never made that save jerry made with his foot tonight. I loved skinny, but jarry is very clearly better.

    parent root
    -7 points BettmansDungeonSlave

Can we send Jarry down and play Ingram/Picks?

    parent root
    11 points sickfiend

    Here we go...

    parent root
    3 points BettmansDungeonSlave

I didn’t mean it like that. I’m just wondering what our goalie options are since we have 3 on the roster right now

    parent root
    3 points EmbraceThePerd

I would buy an Ingram jersey if he got some good games in.

    parent root
    2 points eatingasspatties

    Can we send you down?

    parent root
    2 points BettmansDungeonSlave

I have a NMC from my position as armchair GM

    parent root
    1 points SapphicProse

I swear to god half of our cities braincells die whenever hockey is on. He was the only one i wasnt absolutely embarrased to watch play tonight. Pathetic passes from every single player, and the only time i saw them make a clean pass was the 2 dozen times they handed it right to the preds

    Hell yeah

    parent
  • 2 points satanic-octopus

Aww, Jars. Would have been cool, love an aggressive poke check right out of the net like that

    parent
  • 2 points sharpy10

Is that a LB + Y lobbed through ball in hockey?

    Experience Tristan Jarry.

    parent
    24 points Slothmanjimbo

Yeah can’t blame this one on Jarry, shoulda seen the team in front of him tonight lol

    parent root
    18 points Geralt-of-Rivai

I think he made the right decision, he won the race to the puck. It just ended up being deflected to a bad spot after And absolutely no help from his gassed linemates

    parent root
    13 points satanic-octopus

Nah wasn't on him at all

    parent root
    19 points PaulHannonJr

He was great tonight. Stole us a point in the third. We lost this game in regulation if not for 3 massive stops in that final period.

    parent root
    -7 points Fickle-Room-1206

Guy is high end skill low end common sense.

    parent root
    18 points PaulHannonJr

He didn’t even do anything wrong here? If he had a single player actually come and back check there’s no goal here.

If you are a goaltender… tend the goal

Jarry loves passing to the wrong team

    parent
  • 1 points Strider755

You are Tristin Jarry. You like to pretend you’re Marty Brodeur despite having none of the intangibles. You’re in overtime in game 5 in the playoffs. The puck gently slides to you. What do?

A: Pass the puck to Malkin on your left

B: Make a somewhat risky pass to Letang on your right

C: Wait for a defender to come back behind the net

    D: Yeet the puck

    You only live once, right?

poor jars. was this his first game back?

This looks familiar (proceeds to have PTSD flashback to a certain playoff series against the islanders a few years ago)

none of that is on Jarry

Whos the Oiler deep in the Offensive end that made no attempt to hustle back......

    parent

Jarry had to do something to stop a breakaway since Bouch was taking 3 business days to get back

    parent root
    13 points Rinne4Vezina

A few seconds more and Skjei would've randomly fallen down, which is what he usually does in a pivotal OT moment.

    parent root
    4 points Mediocre-Wafer-5176

I was just waiting for it tbh

    parent root
    3 points Tough_Incident_3924

There’s no way Bouchard would’ve been able to make it back. Just an unfortunate play

    parent root
    14 points ISurvivedCOVID19

It’s on all 3 Oilers for not skating. You can’t get into good positions if your feet aren’t moving.

    parent root
    2 points Semipro321

Bro is backchecking like me on my Wednesday 11pm hockey

    parent root
    1 points kirschballs

That was a gorgeous flip, if Jarry can get to it sooner he can probably make a more effective play (or not get baited into playing it)

Close enough to Bouch for him to take a chance to reach for it instead of turning immediately

Basically I saw it as well executed instead of unfortunate

    parent
    2 points PaulHannonJr

lol and how are your goalies?

    parent root
    1 points Sad_Intention2932

Definitely not in complete turmoil. Scouts honour. Actually put up a .950 tonight so I'm feeling good for now...

    parent root
    7 points PaulHannonJr

And so are we. If Jarry didn’t play an absolutely excellent third we don’t even get a point tonight. Ingram also looks amazing.

    parent root
    1 points Sad_Intention2932

    Sour grapes, damn.

Ahh the full Jarry experience! Thanks for Stu Kulak and the 2nd

We’re more than happy with this trade man. Ingram / Jarry / Statsney is far better than how we started this season

Nope, just Bouch being an idiot.
