Wait are we their first loss in the alternates?? That almost makes up for giving chicagos 3rd string goalie his first win and a shut out. Balance or some shit
They did lose the zone and had the chance to change, but did not. Jarry came out to play the puck and Drai was already turning around to go back for another rush leaving his man. Bouchard maybe made the right play going in net.. and then not sure what his thought was.
Could Jarry have left it and played the breakaway.... yeah but i don't fault his decision on that. The need for this team to make the weakest 2 foot pass, spin-o-rama pass, drop pass to no one, blind pass at the end of a shift, is insanely high.
Jarry made the smart play, just a bad bounce. No fault to him.
Bouch played it well enough, he knew it could be dicey so covered the net. He's just not a goalie. Can't fault him either.
Drai was lazy (tired). Gave up skating, should have covered his man. Could have stole the puck after the bounce, or at least prevented the pass. Heavily at fault here.
McDavid wasn't directly involved, but he didn't exactly rush to get back. Probably tired, did he go off for a change? Can't fault him off the clip alone, not sure what was going on prior to, or behind the camera.
TL;DR - Drai gave up, he should have been able to prevent this.
Bit Mcdavid came out of the zone before that last play, they were already put for a minute. That's the time to change, Nashville did with the closer box, I think they got 1 player swapped maybe 2. Mcdavid went and attacked instead of hanging back and letting the change happen.
I would take the penalty vs a goal, but maybe that's just me. Or maybe a big dive to interfere with the other player but that has a much higher chance of injury and I get why he didn't do it. He did a pretty good job, just bad luck and poor back-checking. Not his fault in the end.
No not his fault. He could have also saved the shot. The thought process was probably to hit the puck and have an odd man break the other way. The main issue is a line who was put for 1:55 and then failed.
I can guarantee that if Jarry gets the poke check here and they are going the other way ALL 3 of them find energy to actually skate. This is just laziness
and people complain when coaches try to teach skilled players defense. I dont care how skilled you are. You should at least have some competent defensive ability. All you have to do is hustle back and try to stay between the puck and one of the other players.
They talked about this a little on stream. It’s two defenders primarily off the face off until they establish puck possession. I honestly don’t mind that mentality especially against a team with two top five players in the NHL.
Blankenburg acts as a forward when there's three defensemen out there. You probably wouldn't notice it unless you know the Preds roster. They haven't run it as often since Smith returned, but there have been PKs where Blankenburg will take as a shift as a forward and another shift as a defensemen on the same PK.
Did you see who Edmontons 3 were? They rolled out McDavid, Draisaitl and Bouchard to start.. not the worst move when you have a hot Roman josi out there as one of the dmen
Blankenburg deserves a lot of credit in OT. He hopped off and Skjei replaced him just before this. He was glued to McDavid in the d zone. McDavid kept trying to skate through him, but Blankenburg matched McDavid’s every step.
Jarry absolutely made the right move and successfully executed it. It was a complete defensive blunder by Bouch as Jarry had the slot angled covered even while backing up. Bouch proceeded to sit in the crease as Jarry backed up, not covering Josi and just sat behind Jarry.
Bouchard really could have gone out and challenged Josi, who already had a moderately difficult shot to make, and cut off more potential angles. Ultimately the fault of the play lies on McDrai for not trying to change after being on the ice playing keep-away for >2 mins.
I agree 100%. Complete lack of awareness by Bouchard to let guys behind him to allow the flip play. And then covers no one and doesn’t block the puck after Jarry goes for a 50/50 play
The fault actually lies on Jack and Louie for saying that McDrai never get tired and making fun of Nashville for changing their stars too early. They brought this on all of us.
Just objectively untrue. Analytics argue everything you just said. Your view of the oilers is that of negative bias and you only watch us when we play you or you see a Bouchard low light on reddit. It makes sense you have no clue with what you’re talking about. You’re simply ignorant to the facts.
Not really. At all. This was a disruption/poke check type desperation move.
The Isles one he was fully in control of the puck and made a tape to tape pass to the other team. With no one else around him. With lots of time to make a good decision. In 2OT. In the playoffs.
There isn’t even a narrative here. Jarry played fine tonight. Everyone clowning on him is doing it cause they love to clown the oilers. If he doesn’t play as well as he did in the third we don’t even get a point. This thread is literally just a dunk on Edmonton thread. He stops the initial breakaway. If our star 3 weren’t out for half the OT they would have gotten back to help him and there’s no goal here. This thread is dumb.
Willy and Mace have been at it together for a while now. People hate on Mason because he can be corny as shit, but I kinda find it wholesome and he adds player perspective. Willy does a great job of reflecting the home crowd's energy. I'm biased of course, but I've heard WAY worse commentary cough ESPN cough
I think the hate is leftover from when they first got started, but the last couple of years they’ve really improved. Willy’s goal calls sucked his first couple of years. “Yes Sir!”
I look forward to the occasional “oh my laundry!” too. It’s like his waffleboarding.
My biggest complaint is how often they go on and on about the other team. All night it was how great McDavid and Drai are. Every game they do it no matter who we’re playing
except this time he was the only person on the ice to make the right decision. bouch sitting in the net and presenting no challenge while mcdrai had a 2 + minute shift that made this the play itself is what killed them in OT
The immediate o-zone time before this for the preds was a disaster class by RoR and I was yelling at the TV for it. He immediately redeemed himself with that pass.
jarry was the only one who made the right move on this play, but it’s hard to look like that when all three of your players are making the absolute worst decisions
He understands the assignment: competitive tanking in close games. Elite puck-knowing to get us a higher draft spot (probably, we'll likely still drop lol)
Jarry also understands his assignment as an Oilers goalie.
Calgary fans will never beat the allegations. It's quite pathetic when you hate another team far more than you love your own. I almost feel sad for you.
Brother, it's trash talk between rival fanbases, it ain't that serious. I don't know how you can go outside without the wind piercing that paper-thin skin of yours. Mr Glass would be in good company with you...
You arent our rival lmao. the kings, stars, and knights are way closer to a rival than calgary. Youre our bitter ex who cant move on. Flames fans post oilers game threads on your subreddit because of how obsessed yall are. Your only current rival is your in inability to make it past round 2 of the playoffs
If not currently rivals, then I guess we'll just call it "Western Canada Mutual Disgust" between the 3 Western Canada teams; regardless, the enmity is obvious, despite your attempts at playing dismissive.
Also, ain't no way you're gonna list rivals and not mention the Panthers who crushed your dreams b2b, you really should evaluate that slip...
Then again, maybe your biggest rival of all is your own GM's. Their constant inabillty to find a decent 'tender, and abundant ability to overpay roleplayers could very well be the reason McD peaces out in search of ring.
Haven’t been rivals since Connor and co. Embarrassed that team so throughly that all the stars fled to the US. Get out of here. Your rival is Vancouver for Lottery watch.
3 on 3. Draisaitl was dead tired and never change because he wanted more stats. I don’t care if he had 3 pts, he cost them the game, not Jarry, and he’s lucky to have McDavid around.
You guys are such casuals it’s incredible. Nobody with a brain is blaming jarry here. Not the players. Not the coaches. Not the fans who actually know this sport. This is a dunking on Edmonton thread that exists just because people love the narrative. Why didn’t anyone post about everyone of Jarrys nice saves tonight? Because nobody actually wants to see that.
Yep, jarry played a great game. Probably the only bloke who wasnt embarrasing to watch today. His team leaving him out for the wolves in overtime isnt his fault
He played fine, but if I had a nickel for every time in a year or so I’ve seen the oilers in a position where their goalie is on the ice but no where near the goal I’d have two nickels but it’s weird that it happened twice.
Lots of people coming to Jarry's defense in our subreddit, I dunno. He could've done far better there, that's a big risk to take given the circumstances. Feel like you really need to be sure you're gonna be able to play that puck properly to come out that far.
And, yes, maybe he gets scored on anyways. But he had a better chance of preventing it if he'd just stayed in goal.
And remember, he did win the race and play the puck. He didn't get as far as he wanted and another Pred picked it up, but I think the decision making was sound.
Jarry didn't have a great game, but I don't think he was at fault on this play.
I’d say it’s 50/50 for Jarry. You either take a breakaway or you play the puck. He prevented the breakaway but our guys gave up skating and didn’t get to the puck before the Preds.
If we aren’t coasting back we would actually have either beat them to the puck or been in position to battle for the puck giving time for Jarry to return to the net.
I swear to god half of our cities braincells die whenever hockey is on. He was the only one i wasnt absolutely embarrased to watch play tonight. Pathetic passes from every single player, and the only time i saw them make a clean pass was the 2 dozen times they handed it right to the preds
I think he made the right decision, he won the race to the puck. It just ended up being deflected to a bad spot after And absolutely no help from his gassed linemates
You are Tristin Jarry. You like to pretend you’re Marty Brodeur despite having none of the intangibles. You’re in overtime in game 5 in the playoffs. The puck gently slides to you. What do?
A: Pass the puck to Malkin on your left
B: Make a somewhat risky pass to Letang on your right
C: Wait for a defender to come back behind the net

Nashville beat Edmonton? Is that allowed?
I thought Draisaitl banned that
Yes, but Draisaitl still got 3 points (1g, 2a).
Hockey gods looking down on Nashville tonight.
Oilers with Draisaitl and wearing their alternates they hadn’t lost a game in and Nashville still prevailed
Wait are we their first loss in the alternates?? That almost makes up for giving chicagos 3rd string goalie his first win and a shut out. Balance or some shit
Yup, first loss in the creams. We certainly didn't cream ourselves this evening, as it were.
Edit: To be clear, the cream jerseys are our third jerseys. I believe.
As a pretty constantly sad Preds fan.... those jerseys are fire
This is also Jarry's first loss as an Oiler, and it's McDavid's birthday.
Oof
And it's the dads' trip. I forgot about that briefly.
And it’s the day when Jan Brueghel the Elder, Dutch-Flemish painter, draughtsman, and son of Pieter Bruegel, died at 56
Good god it’s the day that was foretold…
This is why I love r/hockey
I feel like we don't usually play especially well when the moms or dads are on the trip - I suppose not including last night.
Jarry didn’t look good tonight. Seemed stiff and slow.
He was amazing in the third when we needed him to be. 3 massive stops z
And we weren't on a 2-game win streak, because we're not allowed to have 3+ win streaks this season.
And he also lost the game. All he had to do was skate.
He was towards the end of a 1:30 shift. While the Oilers did have possession for most of it, Nashville was doing a good job of pressuring them.
It was part of his election campaign when he won the mayorship, but council blocked his actual proposal.
I chose a good game to go to and not watch the wings lol
With 2 defensemen on the ice in OT as well
The 3 players in front of him could not have possibly done any less.
Stayed out extra long for offense in OT and turned the puck over, leading to a goal the other way. An OT loss story as old as
timehockey. They did lose the zone and had the chance to change, but did not. Jarry came out to play the puck and Drai was already turning around to go back for another rush leaving his man. Bouchard maybe made the right play going in net.. and then not sure what his thought was.

As the youth say, farming aura
Jarry made the smart play, just a bad bounce. No fault to him.

And yes Drai was lazy.
Why not jump on it?
That far out of his crease, it would be delay of game.
The main issue is a line who was put for 1:55 and then failed.
that back checking effort needs to be studied, good lord absolutely 0 effort from all 3 to get back
Draisaitl must have been watching some JT Miller backchecking highlights.
He definitely studied at the "JT "JT Miller" Miller School For Kids Who Want To Learn To Backcheck Good And Do Other Things Good Too"
Probably had 1:30 time on ice at this point, on the second of a b2b
their earlier OT shift was also a touch longer than 1:30
Learning to trust McD-Hyman and Drai-RNH could do wonders for Edmonton in the OT frame
Or just shift but don’t blame em, 3/4, might as well just give it a go
So? You have to TRY.
Players are humans, they get tired, more news at 11
I can guarantee that if Jarry gets the poke check here and they are going the other way ALL 3 of them find energy to actually skate. This is just laziness

Good lord, what an obscure reference. I love it!
Hu-man play dom-jot
what on earth were they doing ... comically bad.
The good news is you do not need to play defense in today's NHL.
So, Brunnette has decided running to 2 defensemen in 3v3 OT is a thing he's doing now.
They talked about this a little on stream. It’s two defenders primarily off the face off until they establish puck possession. I honestly don’t mind that mentality especially against a team with two top five players in the NHL.
If it's stupid but it works...
Having so man offensively-minded defensemen helps.
The 3D PK unit has been working pretty well, too.
The Preds run a PK with 3 defensemen?
Blankenburg acts as a forward when there's three defensemen out there. You probably wouldn't notice it unless you know the Preds roster. They haven't run it as often since Smith returned, but there have been PKs where Blankenburg will take as a shift as a forward and another shift as a defensemen on the same PK.

Quoting what I said in the Oilers GDT:
Just a classic Oilers defense playing a little prank on the tendy, Bouchard should start a YouTube channel with all the pranks he pulls
The fault actually lies on Jack and Louie for saying that McDrai never get tired and making fun of Nashville for changing their stars too early. They brought this on all of us.
This thread only exists to clown on the oilers. There’s not an ounce genuine hockey talk in here.
Bouchard is a wonderful offensive defenseman who has a very hard time defending. Not sure what’s untrue about my statement and the one above
Just objectively untrue. Analytics argue everything you just said. Your view of the oilers is that of negative bias and you only watch us when we play you or you see a Bouchard low light on reddit. It makes sense you have no clue with what you’re talking about. You’re simply ignorant to the facts.
A flip pass freed 2 Nashville players. Was that the goalies fault? Then the second man back was admiring the situation far too long
Exactly, Bouche did what he always does and took the lazy route assuming he'd intercept the pass to the headman.
I love you Roman Josi
Old habits die hard
That’s what i was thinking. It’s almost exactly like what he did against the islanders in the playoffs
Not really. At all. This was a disruption/poke check type desperation move.
The Isles one he was fully in control of the puck and made a tape to tape pass to the other team. With no one else around him. With lots of time to make a good decision. In 2OT. In the playoffs.

which he also did a ton when he was in Pittsburgh.

Jarry was the only one who i wasnt embarrased by tonight. Made some amazing saves and just got completely let down by our defence.
That and because they added a guy whos a more expensive Skinner 2.0 and gave up assets to do so
Surely jarry won’t make a habit of it!
make a habit of what? he’s the ONLY one on the ice here who made the right decision. if that’s his habit then the oilers should be happy af with it
Jarry definitely won’t find himself in a situation like this again
https://preview.redd.it/omipz4odl8dg1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=59a48b78088db72132fab79cab3d89296e1d3261
that was a great call on the Preds broadcast
I don’t know why people hate on Willy Daunic. He always brings the hype

My biggest complaint is how often they go on and on about the other team. All night it was how great McDavid and Drai are. Every game they do it no matter who we’re playing
Not a fan of most of the time, but I do love his pressure time calls. He is a fan for sure.
Happy birthday McDavid!!!

I mean it was literally McDavid and drais fault.
Yeah mcdavid was awful tonight. Must of had a dozen turnovers
Rough night on Broadway for the birthday boy. Didn’t score.
Maybe this is a hot take but McDavid dive bombing the crease repeatedly was stupid and the rest of the trio weren't doing much better.
Jarry did nothing wrong. Bouch got back. Draistl coasting and letting a pred create a 2 on 1.
We can talk about Jarry here for sure… but we should also address the coasting of every other oiler on the ice.
I saw it live, my voice is gone and my ears are ringing.
https://preview.redd.it/t8fq9i8in8dg1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d1ab53c58da6574e071b3503776d4a4c8b909c10
Hey at least this one wasn't OT in the playoffs.
Baby steps, I suppose
except this time he was the only person on the ice to make the right decision. bouch sitting in the net and presenting no challenge while mcdrai had a 2 + minute shift that made this the play itself is what killed them in OT
I mean look at the effort Bouchard put in there
Because Bouch was a lazy fuck, that’s why Jarry came out.
Edmonton forwards and back checking iconic
You ain’t Hasek my man 😐

Sigh
Those stands. What a time to be alive.
Absolutely unreal alley oop from ROR.
The immediate o-zone time before this for the preds was a disaster class by RoR and I was yelling at the TV for it. He immediately redeemed himself with that pass.
You know he was still probably so hard on himself for that. He redeemed it though and we got the win
Jack Michaels: "Predators out there, looking tired; McDavid out there, not tired!"
And the lie detector determined... that was a lie. The Oilers were in fact, absolutely gassed.
Kudos to Jarry for making me belly laugh at 9pm on a Tuesday evening though.
jarry was the only one who made the right move on this play, but it’s hard to look like that when all three of your players are making the absolute worst decisions
Wolf hasn't done that for you all year?
He understands the assignment: competitive tanking in close games. Elite puck-knowing to get us a higher draft spot (probably, we'll likely still drop lol)
Jarry also understands his assignment as an Oilers goalie.
He sucks lmao
Punching up from the sewers. What chirps.
It stinks down here, just like your defense and goaltending
...
Oh, and your gm too. Whew, almost forgot that one.
Calgary fans will never beat the allegations. It's quite pathetic when you hate another team far more than you love your own. I almost feel sad for you.

Haven’t been rivals since Connor and co. Embarrassed that team so throughly that all the stars fled to the US. Get out of here. Your rival is Vancouver for Lottery watch.
Fucking why. It would absolutely not be any different if the roles were reversed
Charmin ultrasoft fans here. A fucking Redwings fan is clutching their pearls over banter between two other teams.
smh my head, what's become of the sub I love to hate.
Dont you guys have some water mains to fix instead of posting on reddit?
Don’t you guys have some beers and jerseys to throw on the ice up there instead of posting on Reddit?
Dont you have last place in the standings to fight for?
Are beers and jerseys on the ice how you celebrate cup wins? Because yeah maybe, but not for a couple months.
The odds that Oilers win the cup are comparable to the odds that flames “win” the draft lottery.
McDavid was like hahahaha
https://i.redd.it/yo7g3spym8dg1.gif
McDavid was at fault.
I love that this is against the titans too
Thought that was Mike Smith for a second there
3 on 3. Draisaitl was dead tired and never change because he wanted more stats. I don’t care if he had 3 pts, he cost them the game, not Jarry, and he’s lucky to have McDavid around.
runs to see the Oiler fans trash another goalie
It's DEFINITELY the goalies and NOT the system
You guys are such casuals it’s incredible. Nobody with a brain is blaming jarry here. Not the players. Not the coaches. Not the fans who actually know this sport. This is a dunking on Edmonton thread that exists just because people love the narrative. Why didn’t anyone post about everyone of Jarrys nice saves tonight? Because nobody actually wants to see that.
Yep, jarry played a great game. Probably the only bloke who wasnt embarrasing to watch today. His team leaving him out for the wolves in overtime isnt his fault
Right above this is a guy with an oilers flair blaming jarry
Did I say we don’t have dumb fans?
He played fine, but if I had a nickel for every time in a year or so I’ve seen the oilers in a position where their goalie is on the ice but no where near the goal I’d have two nickels but it’s weird that it happened twice.
It’s just funny to shit talk
Jack Campbell? Is that you?
Too bad we gave up the empty netter, could have been mutual 4-3 losses in Alberta tonight
An open breakaway?
And remember, he did win the race and play the puck. He didn't get as far as he wanted and another Pred picked it up, but I think the decision making was sound.
Jarry didn't have a great game, but I don't think he was at fault on this play.
I’d say it’s 50/50 for Jarry. You either take a breakaway or you play the puck. He prevented the breakaway but our guys gave up skating and didn’t get to the puck before the Preds.
If we aren’t coasting back we would actually have either beat them to the puck or been in position to battle for the puck giving time for Jarry to return to the net.
He won the race, he reached the puck first. It just got deflected to a bad spot after then no help from team
He’s been fine for us, but tonight he was not (except a couple huge saves)
First game back after injury. He was better in the second half of the game. He'll come back stronger
He's been okay, not really any better or worse than Skinner was playing for us.
Skinner would have never made that save jerry made with his foot tonight. I loved skinny, but jarry is very clearly better.
Can we send Jarry down and play Ingram/Picks?
Here we go...
I didn’t mean it like that. I’m just wondering what our goalie options are since we have 3 on the roster right now
I would buy an Ingram jersey if he got some good games in.
Can we send you down?
I have a NMC from my position as armchair GM
I swear to god half of our cities braincells die whenever hockey is on. He was the only one i wasnt absolutely embarrased to watch play tonight. Pathetic passes from every single player, and the only time i saw them make a clean pass was the 2 dozen times they handed it right to the preds
Hell yeah
Aww, Jars. Would have been cool, love an aggressive poke check right out of the net like that
Is that a LB + Y lobbed through ball in hockey?
Fucking McDrai lazy fucks.
Experience Tristan Jarry.
Yeah can’t blame this one on Jarry, shoulda seen the team in front of him tonight lol
I think he made the right decision, he won the race to the puck. It just ended up being deflected to a bad spot after And absolutely no help from his gassed linemates
Nah wasn't on him at all
He was great tonight. Stole us a point in the third. We lost this game in regulation if not for 3 massive stops in that final period.
Guy is high end skill low end common sense.
He didn’t even do anything wrong here? If he had a single player actually come and back check there’s no goal here.
If you are a goaltender… tend the goal
whoopsy daisy!
Jarry to teammates: "I fucked up shirt brothers"
I’ve seen this before and in person
If you're a goaltender...
Jarry loves passing to the wrong team
You are Tristin Jarry. You like to pretend you’re Marty Brodeur despite having none of the intangibles. You’re in overtime in game 5 in the playoffs. The puck gently slides to you. What do?
A: Pass the puck to Malkin on your left
B: Make a somewhat risky pass to Letang on your right
C: Wait for a defender to come back behind the net
D: Yeet the puck
You only live once, right?
poor jars. was this his first game back?
This looks familiar (proceeds to have PTSD flashback to a certain playoff series against the islanders a few years ago)
none of that is on Jarry
Whos the Oiler deep in the Offensive end that made no attempt to hustle back......
LolOilers
Jarry had to do something to stop a breakaway since Bouch was taking 3 business days to get back
A few seconds more and Skjei would've randomly fallen down, which is what he usually does in a pivotal OT moment.
I was just waiting for it tbh
There’s no way Bouchard would’ve been able to make it back. Just an unfortunate play
It’s on all 3 Oilers for not skating. You can’t get into good positions if your feet aren’t moving.
Bro is backchecking like me on my Wednesday 11pm hockey
That was a gorgeous flip, if Jarry can get to it sooner he can probably make a more effective play (or not get baited into playing it)
Close enough to Bouch for him to take a chance to reach for it instead of turning immediately
Basically I saw it as well executed instead of unfortunate
Penguins fans know this feeling well. Very, very well
Just jarry things
lol and how are your goalies?
Definitely not in complete turmoil. Scouts honour. Actually put up a .950 tonight so I'm feeling good for now...
And so are we. If Jarry didn’t play an absolutely excellent third we don’t even get a point tonight. Ingram also looks amazing.
Sour grapes, damn.
Ahh the full Jarry experience! Thanks for Stu Kulak and the 2nd
We’re more than happy with this trade man. Ingram / Jarry / Statsney is far better than how we started this season
Jarry had a Stuart Skinner moment
Ingram's 🥅
Ok here come all the fairweather goalie fans. It's send Jarry down and keep Pics and Ingram. Come Thursday you can switch the names around.
Oilers lose because their goalie comes out to play the puck...
Why does Reddit keep reposting things
Witness Oilers goaltending!!
Not his fault.
Nah, that was a certified Bouchard moment starting from the 4 second mark.
Nope, just Bouch being an idiot.
