They use YouTube for watching the videos so I'm sure a lot of old videos are missing but I am interested on how far back they went historically for videos. I feel like older rap videos could be bringing that number down majorly. Im interested in comparing post-2012 to pre-2012 or really any year where the stigma around weed massively decreased but 2012 feels like a good point for that.
it highlights the problem with sensationalist headlines in reporting from studies. the study only looked at English and German speaking videos from YouTube’s top 100 videos of 2024 - an incredibly low and skewed sample size in relation to the headline being used in the linked article
If you are of a certain age as I am, this video man.......a formative moment for sure. I think we all had some hella grainy version downloaded off Kazaa or Morpheus.
My friend had a very fancy phone for the time (2006) that could do video wallpapers and I convinced him to replace the video of his baby daughter with this clip.
After I made this joke, I couldn’t get the line “It must be the ass cause it ain’t your face” out of my head so I listened to it on the way to work this morning. It holds up better than I thought it would.
Creativity, it's a known fact that grass increases creativity
From eight to eleven times
In fact, everyone finds that they're more creative stoned, than straight
So remember:
M-A-R-I-J-U, A-J-U-A-N-A
Mar-i-juana
Mari-juana
Lol, I could've thrown out a number if someone asked me and been pretty close to that. One of those 'research' bits that's totally unneeded - probably just the joke project of some data geek who's way into hip-hop and decided to count shots of weed while watching vids, then came up with the idea of writing a paper on it while high.
I think the misleading part is calling it a “study” to begin with, when they only used the YouTube top 100 for one year and don’t provide any actual data points or anything like that. Sounds like something you could do in a weekend, not an actual academic “study”, def more like a High Times article
Everyone saying that sounds low forgets about the Crunk era, lean got introduced to the mainstream rap landscape and shifted things, and SoundCloud rap was mostly about pills and drinking
That seems low.
The rest are smoking swishers and whoever did the study didnt know you put weed in them
obligatory
Classic

Article says it was based on the YouTube top 100 for 2024
I wish they provided more data and went further back for stuff like you say

Swiping a credit card through a models ass resulting in it shaking only appears in 1 tho…
Why did I just watch that video yesterday
Because its haute culture

I NEED A TIPDRILL 🗣️

Room for improvement
You gotta pump those numbers up
And there’s 100% chance I just smoked some too
Congrats on the weed
Wake up
Grab a brush and put a little makeup
Smoke
pull up
rookie numbers
Impressive. Very nice. Now let’s see the styrofoam cup statistic
That’s really low.
“I remember putting weed in my videos / They thought I was insane / Now every time I turn on the videos / I see the exact same thing”
Those are rookie numbers. We need to bump that way up.
We need something to counter all this fenny music people are making these days.

Love that maplestory pfp
Holy shit my Dad had the original vinyl that this was from. An entire weed-themed album with skits & songs.
RIP MF DOOM
Hell yeah
every single bobby shmurda video has it
There’s more than one?
I'm hungry so I'm gonna have a hot dinner
What are you gonna eat?
Nuke it in the microwave and I got dinner
Gotta pump those numbers up.

Hell yeah
imagine wasting your time on a study like this lmao
In all fairness The Marijuana Herald is a cannabis news site that focuses on marijuana laws, political developments, and the legal cannabis industry.
The “study” is not much different from an article you would’ve found in High Times Magazine in 2002.

Weird that the study didn’t also look at alcohol as a comparison, but I guess they wanted to only focus on MJ and Nicotine
and theres absolutely nothing wrong with giving visibility to a medication thats helps millions and helped billions .
Jammin' 🌿
Should be 42%
Kinda surprised of a number at all because I feel like every item in videos aren't easily identifiable
Do alcohol next.
Could be higher
We need to get even higher!
What your point?
That's not high enough.
Let's go those numbers up
Let’s do beer and country music.
Better than a bunch of liquor bottles, pills, lean, etc a lil weed is always a safer bet.
Everyone saying that sounds low forgets about the Crunk era, lean got introduced to the mainstream rap landscape and shifted things, and SoundCloud rap was mostly about pills and drinking
you gotta find the one that do that Dr Dre Beats or Raycon product placements now
Where can i get the grant to do stupid ass studies like that
cuz ppl wanna pop percs
Study: marijuana appears in my hand 100% of the time post work while listening to hip-hop.
What's the percentage of alcohol in country?
let's make it 73
The community needs to do better. I expect these numbers from a communist country, not the land of the free and the home of the brave
I wonder if it’s gone done by now. Smoking blunts used to be way more subversive & edgy before it was legal. Half of senior citizens are stoners now.
Only 37%?
We need a recount… it’s more like 73%
Shocked_pikachu.gif
Wiz and Cudi deserve way more credit than they’re given for all of this
You mean Cypress Hill
I would have thought that’d be higher tbh!
Now do guns!
I would like to study the correlation between hip hop videos and big booties.
Ok
63% is percs & molly or whatever junky drugs the kids idolise as being cool.
O.ding on downers. Smh
Wiz started it as a trend frfr
Cia priority objectives being achieved
